  1. How about that dreaded swing at Coastal Highway. The noise it makes! brrr! Always think it's something out to eat me that's making that sound. Also crow crows, not bear crows. 😄
  2. Thank you for explaining. 😊 I found it strange that the arrow, no matter which direction I faced, always remained on the left side and didn't move. Maybe I'm too far from stuff.
  3. Thank you for explaining. Glad it works on custom. This will give me a bit more room to tweak the settings to make it more challenging. I'm not fond of stalker since I'm more interested in being against the natural elements than agaisnt the endless wolves, that leaves me with voyager, which is a tad on too easy side for me. Another question. Can someone explain please how the radio works? I went to the airfield and found the radio. I fixed the airfield transmission booth. When I found the radio, a glimmer fog set in. So, I went outside and walked around the airfield a bit, but for the life of me I don't understand what this radio is supposed to be doing? It has two channels and neither is doing anything. I see the screen has an arrow. Is that arrow supposed to be pointing in the direction of a cache or another tower? That radio isn't doing a thing and that arrow isn't moving.
  4. Thank you. Does it work in Custom mode or only stalker/voyager/pilgrim? I know it's not available on Loper. So it's more like a quest than separate campaign.
  5. Hello, Where is the Tale? I don't see it in the game menus. I have the pass. Is this like a challenge available as a separate campaign or like a quest where you have to go somewhere to find a note in the free roam mode?
  6. Thank you so much Lee. That's a creative runabout. 😊 I'm not sure if this is considered a bug or is on the fix list. It just seems to be included as normal game atmosphere. Funnily enough, I find the blizzard rattling the windows quite nice when I'm hidden inside a cozy building, though, at the Airfield the effect is crazy in those log cabins. I'm a custom Loper player most of the time, can't say low wind variability is a challenge, but I do like my long dark silence. Now what to do about my started one year long loper run. Is this your cutie pie pupper on your avatar? 😃
  7. I've been wandering if we have a separate setting to modify wind effects. And if there isn't, I'd like to add my vote to the pile of voices requesting to re-balance the game sound that appeared post December update. It's as bad as waterfalls, except constant. I find the wind to be linked to the other wild life effects, like the wolf barking. If bring it down, I won't be able to hear other important sounds. It's not just the wind howl effect, but some kind of dull, thudding windy sound in the background that's honestly starting to make my head hurt after a certain period of time. The sound is a very large part of this game's atmosphere, and it's highly important to re-balance it to make it more pleasant. I don't mean just at the airfield. This booming seem to be on all maps and I want it adjusted.
  8. I believe the most important key is to move as quickly as possible early game. Unless there is a raging blizzard in my way, I tend to take the risk of travelling, yes even early morning when it's freezing - this means find a big loot hub, grab loot asap and move onto the next big hub until you find a heavy hammer. Collect and carry all the metal and coal along the way. Once you've got the hammer, beeline for the nearest Forge. You need arrowheads and knife/hatchet/both depending on how much metal you've got. Food: Interloper has a high harvestables availability - take advantage of it early game to survive. Cattails are a life saver. Teas are also a life saver. They keep you warmer during travelling and give you much needed calories, those 100 calories don't look like much but they help a lot. Smack bunnies with stones - two bunnies per day is enough to earn supper. Possibly deer carcasses - especially if you run into a hacksaw while looking for the hammer. If there is a shielded deer (ex near trappers cabin at ML in a barn) you can make a fire and take guts/hide/meat even without hacksaw since the fire is shielded. Drop those guts at trappers cabin to cure for the bow and keep walking to return once you have arrowheads. Don't carry meat or anything stinky. Drop guts to cure where you harvested them and either eat the meat or drop it into snow as a stash in case you are walking back through the area. Don't stay at any spot over a day unless the weather makes you - move it move it move it. Feats: Efficient Machine - by 10% burn less calories. Cold Fusion - additional bonus warmth. In my opinion this is the most OP perk there ever was. When you are starting your first hardest days, when you enter indoor buildings, the temperature inside might be small negative. If you have cold fusion this pushes you over the edge into plus zone where you're warming up without clothes. This allows you to loot and warm up. Saves my butt soooo much early game. Once you have your arrowheads and knife/hatchet - you'll be able to chop down birch and maple for your bow (unless you found the hacksaw before the hammer and cut them down already). Trees don't stink - so drop them on the floor while you sleep and travel with them during the day towards a workbench location - so you don't stay in one spot waiting for stuff to cure. If you had time to harvest bunnies for guts or managed to grab a deer carcass, you can backtrack to the cave/cabin where you dropped those guts, while you were running around looking for a hammer those guts were curing. Feathers are self explanatory, find around carcasses. If you have a spare gut - make fishing tackles. Bunny traps are good to have too, but since I move around so much I find them inefficient early game because I already moved on from the area by the time it caught something. They're more useful once you already have your bow and can afford to camp a spot for a longer period of time. Once you've got the bow and fishing tackle, you're good on food. This means you passed your early game and became self sufficient. Then it's simply the matter of fine tuning your equipment and getting the luxury items. If you begin your run in Milton - you are golden. It has a lot of food and you'll be able to get great clothes while looking for tools. This will make your Forge trip easier. If I start in ML or HRV, I beeline for Milton. ML is great, but it has matches problems.
  9. Interloper Run: Appeared between PV and Blackrock entrance. hmm... I'll choose BR way... AWOOOOO! CHOMP! 😱
  10. I found a rifle cleaning kit and a bullet casing on Custom Interloper. Open cave between Milton and ML has a backpack that can't be opened.
  11. Blackrock ammunition bench does not allow you to make bullets. Tried during aura and outside it. Pressing the make button doesn't do anything. Timberwovles morale meter is still askew. I hit one with the curator's rifle that dropped him dead within minutes and the dent this made in their fear factor is laugh worthy.
  12. Merry Christmas everyone! ❤️ My family tends to keep our cars in the garage, so, there wouldn't be much in terms of the tools or clothing since that's in the basement. However, we do keep soups and other food there in the winter when we don't have enough room in the fridge. Something that can be used as accelerant. I guess cloth to wipe the windshield inside the car and some notebooks. The car itself to rest in would make good shelter.
  13. Day 23 There’s nothing like reading a fishing book and repairing socks during a morning blizzard. Once it subsides, I take a peek outside, finding no wolf guard, and head out. I miss my cozy MysteryLake home. Before heading out, I leave a small gift, a stim for another survivor. One never knows when they might need a burst of speed. Its bloody cold, thus, I take some time off to make a fire at the landslide to warm up. It feels like the end of the old world is coming along with the end of the year. The snow keeps falling thick, rapidly covering up the tracks to the past. I drop a couple of metal pieces by the black train and keep following the tracks through the Marsh as the snow keeps on falling. My health is hurting, thus, I take another break at the read wagons. In this state, a toothless old wolf that’d lose a fight to the pigeons just might do me in. I sleep, boil reishi tea and push on. Mystery Lake greets me with a blizzard. The murky light really does feel like the end of the world. I am blessed that no wolves meet me on this treacherous road nor have I missed a turn to the cabin. By the door, I find two big chunks of the ruined deer meat, nothing good cooking won’t fix. As the meat simmers, I look at the stove flame in the comfortable cabin and I no longer wish to leave this place. The winter winds are growing stronger. Tomorrow, I will take my bow, hunt wolf and bear, go fishing, sew clothing, set up the snares for the rabbits and start building supplies for the winter to come. Once the winter is over, I promise, I will resume my journey and search for the other survivors out there. I promise, I will come and find you. Merry Chirstmas, my fellow survivor. Stay strong in The Long Dark. Hey everyone, this last day was recorded on Dec 3rd. At this point the game was lagging and I knew it was being worked on. I haven’t made it exactly to the last day, but although the game was giving me trouble, I made it back to ML to round off these series in a make sense manner. Have a Happy New Year! I’m looking forward to making new series with the Far Journey update. ❤️
  14. Timberwolves aren't scared of the marine flares once so ever. I had one on voyager attacking me, nearly hit him in the face with it three times and that brought down the fear meter by like miserly 3% maybe? Overall, they didn't seem too scared, pistol shots hardly made a dent in fear factor, even when I grazed them. Something is broken with the fear meter.
  15. Day 22 Survivor bashes the door down with a foot Chuck Norris style and stands tall on the porch. All right you coats! My bow is officially FINISHED! Who wants some? The wolves don’t want any of my arrows sticking out of their hides. For once they huddle in the moose area and don’t make a move when I stomp down stairs and across the ice. The newly finished bow is shiny and dangerous when I reach the cozy cave and I can laugh at another guts stopper. I have four guts curing, one set at 98% and the other at 96% As much as I want to move out of the area I don’t want to walk around with four stinky guts. I don’t want to leave them behind either. I finish reading another archery book and wait for the guts to finish curing before picking them up and using the wooden bridge road to get to the Maintenance Yard. On the way there I finally get nibbled on by a local wolf. It is not my bow but my hatchet that decides the round in my favour. I think about another survivor possibly getting attacked and leave a small bandage huddled under a tree trunk in the attack area. All this reading and fighting brings my stamina too low to make the push out of the zone. Once more, I find myself repairing socks and cooking birch bark teas by a glowing fire barrel. Since I’m about to make a return trip to the MysteryLake, my mind gears begin turning towards fishing. I create two fishing tackles and go to sleep determined to return home. A chocolate bar, some tea and my last cattail make supper. Christmas is approaching rapidly. I think about the cozy cabin by the lake where prowls the bear and fish splash under the ice. Perhaps there is another survivor out there who too has a warm place to think of in this approaching holiday.
  16. Day 21 or ten days before Christmas I am so extremely impatient to get those cured guts now that I travel at the very brink of dawn. It’s cold and dark and the wolves are chasing me. The fire and a tossed stone sends the sticky one running. I pull the torch and sprint towards the cave, nearly colliding with this wolf that runs in wild circles. Luckily he’s too confused to follow. The guts are at 98% hurry hurry hurry!!! The other guts have a longer curing period left. I imagine it would be nice for another survivor to find one cured rather than waiting for it. I lay one aside that I will not go back for to pick up. I’m completely out of water. The fire starting finally glows the happy level two. The plan was to read my second archery book while the water boils, but I forgot it at the hunting lodge. I warm up by the fire and go out to check for bunny rabbits. There is one hopping about. I miss and he runs off in the direction where the wolf nearly ate me. No thanks. I have six litres of boiled water when the guts finally cured. The weather changed grey and threatening blizzard when I rush to the hunting lodge. Yes! Yes! Yes! I’ve been waiting for days! At the basement workbench, I choose full six and a half hours and press craft. The work continues all the way until the moon is up, but the bow is not quite finished yet. Good night, my fellow survivor, may something you've been waiting for has finally come to fruition as well.
  17. Hello fellow survivors 😊 I’m very excited that FarTerritories update is finally here! I played the new map on voyager and interloper. These are my impressions. Airplanes and helicopters: Yes! Yes! Yes! I can sit and sleep inside. Lots of hatches to search – super yes! Shiny! Glimmer Fog: So creepy! 😱 It has the dark walker vibe with that electricity creeping towards you and very dangerous as you cannot see where you’re going, likely into some bear’s hungry mouth. Improvement: So far all my experience with glimmer fog involved camping more than half a day. I feel that two or three hour duration is more than enough for this suddenly befalling you phenomenon. It needs to suddenly come and go. Insomnia: I like it. Not every ouchie needs to be super deadly. The glimmer fog is punishing enough as it is. It’s more treacherous than it looks on Interloper as you get banged up during the day from traveling long distances and need a full night sleep to recover. Map: This is a great concept for a map. It makes perfect sense that there is a vast empty space in the center where the airfield is and then it is surrounded by mountains. The airfield vibe is very well captured. It’s very windy and loud. The map has lots of caves, lots of awesome cabins, crashed planes and lots of points of interest. I love the island with the boat dock. There is a lot to discover on this map. Improvement: I’m going to agree with the others that this map territory could have been shrunk. Bring all those points of interest closer together; even that big island, as awesome as it is, has too much walking space – its better off closer to the size of the islands in coastal area. It does contribute to the vibe of looking as far and the eye can see from the mountain region and not even being able to see the airfield in the center from mountain brim, but it starts driving you bonkers in the conkers when you’ve been seeing a fishing hut for half an hour and it’s not getting any closer while you’re walking towards it. Special Items: So far I only found the Curator’s Rifle on Voyager. I love the handle. I’m also wandering if it’s more powerful than the regular rifle. I’m typically a lousy shot and I’ve nailed a bear and a wolf between the eyes with it in one shot. Super excited and looking forward to finding all the special items! Also found a bearskin bedroll in a new territory on voyager, very excited about this little gift as well. Improvement: A loud howl of protest from Interloper calling for the special lantern and bow to be a part of the Interloper loot. I know even regular bows don’t drop, but this could be placed somewhere very tricky to get to – puppy sad wolf eyes pretty PLEASE? Interloper needs special items too! Big thank you to the crew working on this amazing game. I'm very happy this update came! 💙 Blue heart because it's soooo cold in the long dark that I'm frozen inside out, but my survivor heart keeps going.
  18. Day 20 The morning is bright and extremely cold. I believe there are three more spots where I could check for deer. However, strong winds in the morning would prevent me from starting a fire. Attempting to wait for favourable changes, I go back inside and craft two arrows. This brings my number to eight. The wind doesn’t subside. Nomming on cattails I read an entire archery book. This hunting lodge can soon be renamed into library. A third check in the evening displays better weather but extremely nosy wolves. I’m so tired of their presence that I’m almost tempted to do a wrestling match with a hatchet just to reduce their numbers. Common sense prevails in the form of a fast paced jog across the lake and up the moose hill where I grab a 600 calories piece of deer meat and loop around the hill with the wolf in tow back to the hunting lodge. There I chop wood until the main bedroom looks nice and neat. When it gets too dark I sit on the bed and sharpen the hatchet in contemplation. Who else is out there listening to the rhythmic grind of the stone against metal, finding surety in another day with a better tool? The rough surface of the stone presses into my palm and I lay half of it aside for another survivor. It will be here for them to hold and contemplate too.
  19. Ash Canyon: When you're going through the inner cave that leads to the way to the mine, there is a puddle of icy water, when you step into that water you get an invisible waterfall action, you get hypothermia and your torch gets extinguished. Ash Canyon, Firewatch Lookout: invisible rope. I tied the rope and could climb it down, but can't see it. XD
  20. Day 19 The day begins with some vigorous exercise. I take the rope behind the hunter's lodge down to the lake and immediately get spotted by local wolves. Mr teeth chases me all the way across the lake through the forest where I bump into his buddy who is more than happy to take his turn chasing me around the snowy hills. Blizzard takes you all! This forest should be renamed into the WolfyForest! As I roll below a slanted tree and take a sharp turn to lose my admirer, I bump yet into another wolf! This one chases me straight to the deer I had spotted the day before from the ledge. Once I end up with my back towards the mountain, so at least his buddies don't sneak up behind me, I'm forced to use my only accelerant. The wolf falls into the crouching position and keeps growling menacingly. I pull two torches out of the fire and nearly hit him with them, but this doesn't prompt him to leave. At last when I pull out a rock and aim, the wolf scoots. Yup, I am crazy to start a fire on a windy day in a forest where I got chased at least by three wolves. The guts I will not be able to pull off taking, however, the hide and meat are the priority. The weather gets snowy and iffy once I have what I want. Now to shove my way through the fence of teeth. I'm so glad I had left all the extra items back at the lodge. If there was a gold medal to be handed out for running an obstacle course through a forest stuffed with wolves under every bush, I would easily win the prize. The loopy loops take me across the bridge through the iron gate and I rush to the cave where I catch my breath and do some repairs before returning to my temporary home. I can stomp my foot in impatience at how slowly the guts are curing. Hello again Mr Moose. Once at the lodge, I drop the newly won deer hide beside the stove in the kitchen. It looks quite cozy. I imagine it would be pleasant for another survivor to enter one snowy day and find it there. They shall have it. Funny enough I'm low on the tinder plugs. I tear apart a couple of boxes, cleaning up the space by the bedroom some more before I'm ready for bed. The night is dark peering through the windows. Are you there too, fellow survivor, gazing upon it from the other side of the glass?
  21. Not every condition needs to be a severe debuff. In this case, the glimmer fog in itself is a much bigger punishment than the side effect it causes, these two combined is enough. I find insomnia to be something that can indirectly contribute to the long dark journey and it's fine the way it is.
  22. If I spawn in ML, I bee line out of the map. Either go Trappers -> full sleep -> Milton. Or Through Hydro Dam to PV. Or try the red wagon in FL, but also not guaranteed. On Loper the spawns are too non guaranteed to risk it.
  23. Day 18 The food hunt continues. This time I venture past the cave along the narrow trail that leads to the ledge overlooking the maintenance yard and the forest. It is fairly windy, however, another deer I find is next to a tree. I crouch and go around until I find a wind shielded side where I can begin a fire. Having taken everything off, I leave the fire to boil water and to have a place to warm up since I want to explore farther along the path. The ledge requires a rope I don't have to go down, however, I scout the forest behind the maintenance yard and spot another day of dinner. So far the deer I found had between 0.6 and 0.8 kg of meat, not exactly the fullest fest. Making a mental note of another deer below, I return to my fire only to find it blown out. I drink another still hot tea and make a return trip smuggling more meat for supper while dodging wolves. Even when I'm crouching along the side of the mountain the wolves smell a single chunk of meat on me all the way from the center of the lake. They always change course and head directly for my location. At the lodge I make another small present for a fellow survivor. Since they already have an arrowhead and a shaft, I add three feathers into a drawer to be crafted into a nice arrow. The evening is still young thus I spend it pushing to craft more arrows. I now have a good batch. I'm rather impatient for the guts to cure. Since I'm running low on wood, I continue clearing up the main bedroom. I've chopped two broken shelves already, but it still has a lot of loose planks. Mission accomplish I have another filling supper. Whoever is out there, perhaps, you too have the good fortune to spend the night in a luxurious bedroom like the one I have tonight.
