  1. Don't sweat it. 😃 While others provide stunning aurora shots, I try to stand out from the bunch. Besides. I *might* have a few of em too. As said earlier I will not provide them on a regular basis though.
  2. Can only think of this sound fx: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=En2bA1xM0Zc
  3. I like that one too. I tried to get one even closer, but the deer bounced off. Camera-shy critters. Hopefully I'll get one with a moose on similar pose. That one might take a few bandages though.
  4. Sharing screenshots? *hmmm* I'll start with a few wallpaper-worthy ones. There wil b e few to almost no aurora related screenshots from my end, as *everyone* seem to take those. There might be an exception every now and then if the shot in question is something I find particularly share-worthy. Instead I aim for the other less common ones I find being worthy of a wallpaper. Enjoy. Zip-file with full 4k images of the ones below: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1AAXoBDYMIlEpUQWuP6Bf8DcYA4QOmq7_/view?usp=sharing
  5. Title says it all. I've enabled autowalk in accessibility options. I've set the key binding to middle mouse button. It doesn't work at all. I've also tried to set it back to default Z key. Still doesn't work. I've restarted the game. No go. I uninstalled and reinstalled the game, reenabled the option and set the key binding. Doesn't work. What am I missing here? Could it be that it's the Linux version of this game where the autowalk just doesn't work no matter what? Is this intended or? I have no Windows computer available to test it on.
  6. Here's few I've found during my travels: Found in the Ash Canyon, Homesteader's Respite. Just below Fire Overlook. This dude have been lying here a long time. I'd guess since summer if I'd go by the way he's dressed. Chap was out climbing when he slipped and fell. Hopefully it was quick and painless. No pain. just a thud and then the big sleep before even realizing what happened. Inside the house found nearby, one can find various clothes that this chap obviously did not bring. (I know. Not sitting. But still worth mentioning considering the circumstances...) Found at the Bleak Inlet. Inside Last Resort Cannery. It's the warehouse just beside the ship named "The Harbinger". Not that badly dressed so being poorly dressed shouldn't have been the reason of their demise. Beside them there's a can of soda. By the time I found the can it was already ruined. Barely any clues on what's been going on. But if I'd guess: No blood or attempts to bandage up wounds so it shouldn't have been wolves. The way they're sitting I'd guess they died of hypothermia, and that despite being well dressed against the cold. Sooo... they fell through the ice, climbed back out and took up refuge here. But too late.
  7. -"Oh no! A bear! I better release my emergency load I've saved up for years. *KaB00M*" <bear whimpers off> Result: Bear is far gone, but it cost you the emergency load and both pants as well as thermal underwear that are now ruined.
  8. Would be a fun "easter egg" to find a crashed/crushed truck loaded with ruined maple syrup with a corpse and a note mentioning something about a syrup heist. <winks at developers>
  9. Time for another revival of this thread. Are there any updates on this rumored film? Will there ever be any? Read that there's plans for it, but that was back in 2016-2017. It's now 2022.
  10. I'm against building in general, as that would defeat some of the game mechanics. But ability to move more stuff such as boxes, furniture and barrels, both indoors and outdoors to some degree. That would make some things more interesting. Not where one put a whole barrel in the backpack and carrying it to the other side of the island. Just slowly pushing a box or a barrel very slowly and with a lot of effort so it doesn't become game-defeating feature. A makeshift shelter or block off an entrance. Or to slowly move that box a bit aside to reveal some candy bars or rifle rounds behind it.
  11. Pick it up and hear him say "I could use this..."
  12. I suspect these plankton just got washed up into the snow. Now stuck in the ice/snow, the plankton does what plankton do. But that's my far fetched guess. Maybe plankton can live in solid water.
  13. Canadians plops their butts outside the taffrail and pray to whatever they worship there's no rough sea when they're in time of need. 😉
  14. I can confirm that wolves will flee from a bear when spotted. Seen that happen many times in Pleasant Valley, Thomson's crossing. I have however never seen what happens when a bear and a wolf are in very close proximity of each other. (i.e. attack/kill range) Are you sure that moose might kill a wolf if in range/close proximity? If so that would explain the situation I had with a wolf snarling at me from my left and the moose charging me from the right. The moose would end up almost on the wolf just fractions of seconds after I've went back inside. Very much like the SATW comic strip I've linked in a previous post above in this thread.
  15. Another far fetched theory of mine would be when I was approaching the Coastal Town area I casually scared off a few wolves from the fishing huts I was concerned about. Just hip-fired the revolver a few times in the general direction. They whimpered off and I never though of it any more. Besides they ran out towards the sea so I don't see how they' end up behind the garage. If that would be the wolves I later saw behind the garage, it must be some fracking extremely lucky hip-shots. Well.. .that's the only thing I can recall being remotely close... and with a big fat emphasis on "remotely"
  16. That's where I'm different. Having wildlife just outside is something I consider a "nearby food court" and a "fresh hides for the taking" equally as close. Then again this is after all just a voyager run so I'm not too concerned of wildlife engagements. I'd be planning this differently on interloper for sure. But yeah this might be a wee bit too close. Never knew the area would be this popular. Knowing these animals are near this area, I never thought it all be there at the very same time.
  17. Well.. This is still an easy "walk in the park" voyageur. I'm more for exploration as of now before I engage a long run with interloper. And now that you mention it. I was still carrying some raw wolf meat and guts from the first wolf I killed. If I recall correctly now, it was 3 points on the smell meter (maxed out)
  18. Aha! Now I get you. Yeah I did find that a wee bit immersion breaking.
  19. Sooo.. Here I am. Just arrived to the Coastal highway on this run. Knowing the area to some degree from a previous run I know that I want to head for the Coastal Town, and set up a base inside Quonset Garage. Just as I enter the town area there's one wolf snarling at me. I quickly whip up the revolver and lands a bullet between the eyes of the wolf just as it starts a run towards me. It slops down to the ground with a sad whimper. -"Look at that! food situation solved on arrival." I harvest the meat, skin and intestines off the wolf carcass and heads inside the mentioned garage to set up a base. Organize things and collect wood for the fire barrel inside. Now, this is the moment that makes me go "W.T... F ... is going on????" followed by a surprised "Dang!" Ami I lucky or what?" Here's what's been going down outside Quonset Garage just now: I plop out the front door to collect more wood from the pallets outside. Just as I pop out a huge honking moose stares and threatens me just to my right. I shit my thermals. At the very same time a wolf on my left snarls at me. This is where I go "Nope! I'm not dealing with this shit!" turns a quick 180 degree and beg I am fast enough with the door to get away. Just as I do that, the moose charges. I'm not sure if it charges me, or the wolf. I'd assume it's me but I'm not sure. I just barely got back inside with the moose snout just entering my peripheral vision. I pause for a second trying to process what just happened. I plan ahead a little by preparing my rifle and make sure it's not jammed. Then heads back out the back entrance. I sneak around the corner only to see the moose slowly walking off towards the ice/sea, and a wolf carcass just outside the front door. "WT..F... What just happened? What killed the wolf? Did the moose ki...." *Roar* A bear just detected me from behind. I turn white as a sheet thinking that I'm done for now! In a frenzied panic I just run forwards past the moose enraging it in the process, while I dash for the car that I aimed for just up ahead. I can hear the moose once again charging me as I ran past it. Just as I reach the car door, and with the moose's antlers tickling my ass, there's an enraged bear to follow. I barely got inside the car. Both my thermal pants have changed color now. I swear there's a couple of bricks in the pants too. Moose disengages the charge and slowly walks towards the sea/ice again. The bear slowly heads back towards the coastal town. I wait for them both to make some distance away from me before I pop back out. Knowing that moose are a rare sight I don't want to miss out on the opportunity to get meat and skin to last me for a long time. That moose skin satchel sure would fit nicely now. With the price in my mind, I pop out of the car and sneaks towards the direction the moose went. I prepare the rifle and make sure there's no jam. Up and over the snow banks and onto the ice. I see the moose with it's hind towards me. I take a shot and makes the moose a new one in the rear. The moose sprints off and I quickly follow by distance making sure I have enough buffer zone to act in case it goes south. The moose turns around towards me, slowly walking. It hasn't seen me yet. I crouch down to be less visible and take aim for a nice headshot. *Blam* Nice hit! I bet it's critical too. The moose once again runs off out towards the open sea. I once again follow safely behind. Rinse and repeat this process for a couple of times and the moose finally slops down. Score! Finally! I got what I wanted. I get up and quarter the moose while it's not frozen. I then grab the skin and guts first and heads back towards the coastal town area to dump it off inside the garage. But just as I'm arriving, I once again see the bear roaming around. I better deal with this bear or it'll make a snack out of my my sorry ass. I head towards a car so that I can quickly plop inside once I taken a shot on the bear.I'd rather wait for the bear to bleed out than trying to engage in a futile struggle with it. I stand by the side of the car and aims the rifle over the car top towards the bear that is now roaming the front of the garage. Just as I'm about to take the shot I notice yet another two wolf carcasses further up in the background. "Gee. This garage is quite popular. Even the wildlife seek it out." The bear is now close enough that it's detecting me. And I'm still carrying all these guts so I'm quite smelly too. I take the shot. *BlaM*, and without looking if it was a hit or not I plop inside the car to avoid the bear charge. I... hear nothing... Wait... Why is it so quiet. The bear should either be enraged or be whimpering off by now. I can't see anything from the position of the cars seat. I ... decide to get back out and... wolf snarling. I pop back inside the car quicker than a bullet. "Holy cr*p! Not again! .. .whyyyy?". The wolf sudednly whimpers and runs off. -"Is the bear still alive??? I couldn't see". Well... after a few moments when I'm kinda sure the wolf is far away I dare look out again. It's dusk. The bear lies dead infront of the garage front entrance together with the previous wolf carcass. I take notice of two other wolf carcasses behind the garage where the moose came from. Lemme count this encounter: 1 Moose dead out on the ice. Quatered. 1 bear dead just outside the garage front entrance. 3 wolf carcasses I know I didn't kill. One with the bear carcass and the other two further behind the garage in the background. For only a few shots and a whole lot of bricks in my pants, I'd consider this engagement a lucky fucking success. But... I still can't process what happened to the wolves. I know I never took a shot at em. Not even to scare em off. I did just arrive to set up base here. Now I have more meat than I probably can consume within a reasonable time. I thought bear/moose couldn't kill wolves. Do you guys have any clues on what's been going down here? Theories? I'm kinda stumped and amazed of the whole ordeal.
  20. I beg to differ on the "has much freedom" part to some degree. One can play the game "as intended" with most of the freedom during Wintermute episodes. Some areas might be cordoned off due to storyline progression reasons, but other than that there's not much hindering one to do whatever one would like to between the cut scenes. I took this to heart during episode 4, where I just left the meanies in the blackrock prison for themselves while I just lived off the land like a regular survival game. I went for weeks hunting wolves, making wolfskin coats, rabbit mitts etc. Ran all the side quests with plenty of time in between too. Found most of the secret caches and bunkers. I even prepped out one of the bunkers for a long term survival. I almost felt bad for leaving the the prison ward in the hands of the baddies for that long. Them living off mouldy snack bars and banged up dog food can, I lived the life with fresh grilled wolf steaks and tasty rabbit meat. I did eventually get back to the main story with a "Ach screw this. Let's see where the story leads us next."
  21. I've looked through my achievements now again. and the numbers have updated to something much more realistic. A friend of mine told me that the achievement percentages can sometimes be very misrepresenting due to various factors. One can erase the local steam client folder in linux to force steam to update and re-cache everything. (Erasing /home/username/.local/share/Steam and then relaunch the distribution packaged steam client) afaik, the steam client is a glorified web browser specialized towards one specific service. Erasing the mentioned folder clear out the "browsers" cache files. One could probably deep-dive and erase these cache-files individually, but I didn't bother with that tedious task. Erasing and having it redownload the latest update was much easier. I cal also say that other games have achievements updated properly, thanks to this. WARNING: If you haven't manually set a different game storage folder elsewhere, this will also erase all your games, forcing you to redownload them again. Most games should have save data stored in the cloud, but there's chance even saves are erased if the steam cloud sync is turned off.
  22. I might be wrong here, but take the very first achievement where one survive the very first night after the plane crash. Anyone getting at least that far will get that achievement. Steam tells me less than 5% of all players who own TLD on steam have it. The other upcoming achievements one get for simply finishing the chapters in the story are even rarer. That tells me some of those 5% who did get past the first night in Wintermute never finished the first chapter. These are achievements one get no matter what as long as one simply follow the story no matter how bad or if one never engage in side quests. They're "earned" simply for going through the story. They can't be missed unless one never play the story mode altogether.
  23. First time I was in the dark on how it would work, But as soon as the popup tip told me how to use the spear I started to imagine how it all would go down. I imagined the wolf scene from the movie "300". First charge from the bear got me off guard as I wasn't ready for it. Died from blood loss before I could even do anything about it. Lucky thing Wintermute has the very forgiving save/load feature. Second time I was able to put the spear in place and thought I'd nail the bear once and for all. I struggled. Then the bear ran off. I was a bit stumped that the bear would even survive the engagement. I was surprised that I had to repeat this. Thought to myself: "WHAT??? I have to repeat this? ... how many times? Should I run off? Am I missing something?" Then the second charge from the bear came and I was barely able to get into the stance with the spear in time. "Whyyy? Is the bear really this stupid????" Just recovering from the second struggle that got me injured too. I was no longer able to hold the spear. "Holy *****!!!! I need to patch up before the bear charge me the thi.-..." *bear charges again* ... *dies again from blood loss*. -"#$¤&¥##*profanities*" Third times a charm. right? Loads up the last checkpoint. But before I charge in to rinse and repeat, I prepare more bandages, collects few more pills and another flask of disinfectant. First charge: flawless. No damages to me. Second charge: Some minor Injuries and torn clothes. -"Holy cow!.. .this bear really torn up most of my clothes." I retreat so that I don't have to engage the third time before I patch up. Then proceeded to patch up and repair the leftover clothes that still can be repaired. That is when a blizzard hits and I have to seek shelter. -"#$¤&¥##*moarprofanities*" After almost two days of blizzard I emerge from a nearby cave seeking up the spot I engaged the bear on. Bear is now gone. Huh... I wonder if I have to redo everything all over next time I engage the bear. Well.. onto the second radio tower nearby and get the quest item. While I traverse the terrain I see a bunch of wolves. (Not the timberwolves though) I take the chanse of using the spear against the wolf that is snarling at me. It immediately wimper and scurries off. -"Wow... this thing is an efficient wolf-deterrent. Hope I can keep it after dealing with the bear." I then proceeds to the third and last radio tower forgetting about the bear. There I see it again. This time I'm better prepared. Rinse and repeat. But this time with all charges from the bear with no injuries to me. Just a few minor torn clothes. Easy to repair/replace. Heads back to hand in the quest... but that is when I get stumped of not being able to exit the area. (I keep having the spear out). Is it a bug??? Why??? I try over and over... When i put away the spear, the next cut scene takes over. (No spoilers) -"Ooooh riiight. That was odd. The next cut scene would not trigger if I had any weapon out. Maybe I should report this lil bug."
  24. I've played through the Wintermute now, and I love the story so far. Well thought out characters. Superb voice acting. Very well done cut scenes (In the gaming world, this is hard to do right). I got a load of achievements for it too. But I do notice one worrying thing about the achievements: All of the achievements that comes from the story mode are all super-rare. This tells me a lot of players do play this game, but less than 5% of all players have even touched Wintermute. Even the very first achievement which anyone playing story mode even for the 10 first minutes will get is super rare. I'm surprised that so few actually don't even touch the story mode (Wintermute). A lot of players miss out on a lot of content, tips and tricks that one learn through it. Especially a lot of well hidden points of interest that is super helpful in the challenge mode. How come? Are TLD players really skipping out on wintermute? If you're one of them who skipped out on Wintermute, please do share with us why. Almost seem the developers put a lot of effort into it and less than 5% of the TLD players even care.
