  1. I find it laughable that the alone Tv show contestants put such high value on a 60 sq ft gillnet and 80m of paracord, when a 2 person rope hammock could quickly be unraveled and woven into 5x as much netting and cordage. The 20x20 tarp is easily torn into 1/4" wide strips and makes 3x as much cordage and netting as the rope hammock, and if you take the optional 12x12 tarp, you dont need 3/4 of the big tarp for anythng else. They give you a 10x10 tarp, too. That's plenty of membrane. Your shelter should be kept small, 4x4x7 ft, so that you dont waste your body heat. YOu need a Siberian log fire, projecting its one way heat 6 ft on either side of your, for light and warmth as you do much of anything on Great Slave lake in the wintertime. So a larger shelter does you no good at all and just makes you waste a month of time building it and processing firewood, cause the shelter is so inefficient. By the time you need heat inside of the double walled, debris stuffed tarp shelter, you'll have the 2 inche of snow that is all you need to make an igloo. Igloos need no sleeping bag and no fire down to -40F, because they are so sealed, insulative and reflective.
  2. i expect it to flee. I expect that there's more than one, especially in the winter and I expect them all to flee when I fire a shot my pocket 9mm. i expect to not be so dumb as to ever be unarmed.
  3. the sleeping bag, axe, saw, cookpot, gillnet, paracord, belt knife, ferrorod, regular bow. Do you now how to replace those items with more versatile gear, or make substitures in the field? Take the 12x12 tarp as half reflective and half clear material. Take the Cold steel shovel, modified to have 8" of saw edge. Take the modified Crunch multitool, the 3 lb block of salt, the 2 lb ration of pemmican (as bait, like the salt) Take the fishing kit (as one bent sewing needle and 24 of the biggest hooks allowed). Cut them in half, reforge the ends. and have 48 smaller hooks. Take the 2 person rope hammock and out of it, make 5x as much cordage and netting as you're allowed to take. Take the big roll of duct tape, so you can seal up the tarp shelter, with double layers of tarp, and dry debris stuffed between those layers. You can use the tape to help start fires, make debris-stuffed pontoons for the outrigger-raft, make sealed dry bags for tinder, stored food. Take the snarewire , a bit of it as copper electrical wire. then you can start fires with the battery from the head lamp. Take a slingbow, and take down arrows, so your projectile weapon can always be on your person, and so you can use baked clay balls as "ammo" for small stuff and not waste an arrow on such shots. The reason you dont need the sleeping bag is y ou can dry out debris under the 20x20 tarp, using hot rocks and then that debris becomes your insulation. Keep the shelter small and sealed, so you dont lose your body heat. you'll get a little condensation, but the debris will soak it up. While you sleep, you open a couple of tiny vents, as in 1/4" holes, opposite sides of the shelter, That deals with the condensation.
