  1. Hi team. With the latest update the sprint meter is always in the HUD. Now, I've selected an 'always on' HUD because I want to see my status bars all the time, but the sprint meter used to fade away with this setting. Now it's annoying. Is this the expected behaviour? If yes, is it possible to configure the status bars & sprint meter as 'always on/contextual/off' independently?
  2. Started a new Custom sandbox, and the TFTFT items (Spelunker's Lantern, etc) haven't spawned where they usually do. Have extra spawn locations been added?
  3. Launched a new custom Survival game after finishing Ep4; unfortunately there are some glitches. First is the 'Repair Skill Improved To 99' etc notices. They don't appear as soon as you repair items/clothing/clean firearms; they only appear once you close the backpack and (if you've been fixing an item in poor condition) the result is 2 dozen Skill Improved notices in random order. Second is more insidious. I spawned in Milton and looted some gear. I then headed to Hushed River....but the map didn't change. Every time I view the map or try to use Charcoal, I end up seeing the Milton map. On my list of Rock Caches, it says I haven't even visited Hushed River!
  4. THAT'S why there's so many of the damn things! 🤣
  5. At least 2 other people on these forums have had trouble trying to complete the Steam Puzzle in the power plant BECAUSE they were treating it like a steam puzzle. One thread is focussing on the walkthrough and the other has devolved into a shouting match. Instead here, I want to discuss the problems I had with the steam puzzle and why. (Disclaimer: some of this content originally appeared in another thread but it was lost amongst the name-calling. I deleted my content from there and moved it here with some expansions; I don't mean to cross-post but I want to explain my gripe in a civilised manner.) Fluid dynamics puzzles like this are amongst my favourites, but these pipes behaved completely differently. It's like having a Sudoku where numbers can repeat along the same row or column: it looks familiar but you'll never find the solution because the design doesn't comply with the rules. If you've never done Sudoku before you won't notice the problem, but if you're a fan of the genre you'll instead rage-quit and blame the guys who designed it for breaking the unwritten laws. The issues I have are: In real life, pressure gauges in the red warn the pipes are about to go boom. At the very least this indicates the presence of steam. Instead, in TLD red indicates the ABSENCE of steam -- something that took me >30 min to realise. Having multiple parallel pipes will decrease the pressure for that stretch of the system before returning to its original value when the pipes reunite. I got stuck trying to ensure only one route through the system was open and wondering why in Fluffy's name the pressure was decreasing in this closed system. Only when I brute-forced the levers did I find the solution. Does this mean we have to re-design the entire puzzle? I don't think so. Two cosmetic changes will keep everyone happy: Have the dials labelled Steam Flow and the needle move between None and Max (or whatever). The dials could be made slightly larger to accomodate ledgible text or some unique icon could be dreamed up (eg puff of steam for Flowing, crossed-out puff for Not Flowing). This will clearly mark the needles are not behaving like conventional pressure gauges without breaking the existing puzzle. For the parallel pipe sections, depict an Overpressure Failsafe Vent that will eject steam from the system if it exceeds x%. This will signal to fans of the genre that pressure has to be split down parallel paths and then built up later in the system.
  6. Unfortunately I've spotted a couple of slight glitches when playing through Ep4. I began by continuing my current save game. When I got to the start all of my stuff was gone AND replaced by Mackenzie's default outfit. I understand that Mackenzie has had his gear confiscated by the prisoners, but later in the game he always retains his shirts, trousers and footwear. This stuff should be retained from a previous save, or replaced with a prison jumpsuit -- especially since I shredded Mackenzie's default outfit for the resources! Another glitch when continuing a save: the difficulty defaults to Medium even if the previous setting was Easy. The black wolves will attack rather than run at the first sign of Mackenzie. (Timberwolves attack on Easy, I know that; it's the Lone Wolves I'm talking about.) When failing to repair clothing, the Failed message doesn't appear on the Clothing Screen; it is only visible after closing the backpack. This is also the case if you try to add something to an overloaded container/locker/etc. If you enter the various Trailers in the Blackrock region, you of course get a notice of New Location Discovered. But on subsequent visits (even just leaving, realising there's a blizzard, and coming straight back in) I still get the New Location Discovered notice! Even some of the items I just looted (not in containers) spontaneously respawned!
  7. Definitely saw the moose and swerved, but in his panic/poor visibility went off the road. Crowbar was to try and free the truck but he was so focussed on that he didn't see the blizzard coming. Jerrycan was for his generator, perhaps; he filled it up and proceeded home.
  8. I just finished a full replay of Wintermute, mostly to get the Achievements that were still outstanding. DAMN I love this game!
  9. I think this guy has a few TLD feats active: https://www.bbc.com/future/article/20200226-how-to-survive-in-the-extreme-cold
  10. A trick I found. If you find the Advanced Guns book, perform some research but NOT THE LAST HOUR. Instead keep the near-finished book at camp and finish all of the Frontier Shooting Guides, THEN finish your study of Advanced Guns. This is because Frontier Shooting Guides only take you to Level 4 at the most. You'll want to use all those Guides to get through the lower levels, then use Advanced Guns to push you closer to Level 5. Of course, then you have to start hunting and killing things. And if you want to avoid dying so close your Skilled Survivor achievement, it has to be defenseless animals....
  11. I loaded up a new Survival Sandbox. Spawned at the Prison Bus in Milton. Right in front of me was a prisoner's corpse and a crowbar. I'm not sure this survivor's from a plane crash....
  12. If the snow falls for several hours without stopping and the wind starts picking up, a blizzard is typically arriving. They are dangerous because: They damage your clothing even before you're saturated and freezing You get very wet very quickly, meaning you'll lose your clothing's protection far faster than in a mere heavy snowfall Extreme cold & windchill means you'll start freezing, even on lower difficulties with the finest clothing Zero visibility and not able to use charcoal to check your position makes it easy to get lost, even in familiar terrain One of the safest places for a blizzard is indoors or in a cave. This gets you out of the saturating precipitation and dangerous winds, and even if you cross a load barrier you can still hear the distinctive roaring winds of the blizzard. Dry areas also mean you'll recover from the snow quicker and it's easy to start a fire. Cars are also an option, but remember they provide no protection against temperature and it will still get cold. Of course, indoors may not be an option due to Cabin Fever or maps like Pleasant Valley. One option is crafting a Snow Shelter, but these take time and the blizzard will usually be on you by the time you find the right terrain and set it up. This means you may still be wet when you go in, and Snow Shelters provide +18ºC at best, so you may still have to light a fire (which will be easy enough). This brings us to the final option: finding an area of terrain sheltered from the winds. Simple rises in the terrain are not enough: during the blizzard the wind direction will change repeatedly and unless you've found a particularly well-sheltered spot, you'll suffer the blizzard's effects. You also MUST start a fire in order to keep warm enough to survive the storm, and unless your fire is wind-shielded it will last 9min at best. If you're stuck in a blizzard in a partially-sheltered terrain, pass time for 4 hours at a stretch and watch the current temperature: if it starts to plummet the wind has changed and you're in the blizzard again. Cancel your time-passing and relocate outside of the wind, which will probably require lighting a new fire. A good way to practise is to head to Pleasant Valley on Pilgrim: the blizzards will come on nice and frequently but you won't have the storm's full effects. Also a good way to get the Blizzard Walker feat!
  13. 4DON isn't simply Endless Night, though. I like the idea of different sub-challenges through each 24-hour period: no wildlife, full aurora, etc. Now that I think about it, shouldn't we have an Endless Day to go with our Endless Night?
  14. I'm a relative late-comer to TLD, so I've never been able to play a 4DON event. Since DarkWalker now has his own challenge mode, I was thinking something similar for 4DON. For this mode, Endless Night is on and light duration is doubled. Day 1: no wildlife, not even fish, so you have to loot out Milton to stay fed. Day 2: only wolves return. Day 3: permanent aurora. Day 4: permanent blizzard. Maybe tweak the rate of time flow? The first days start off with slower time, which then speeds up for the later days?
  15. Yes to the airstrip and industrial docks. I'd also like to see Blackrock Federal Penintentiary, where the prison bus inmates were meant to go. I think it's safe to say that a riot occurred after the first Aurora struck, so there's a chance for exploration and stuff there.
  16. You made DarkWalker permanent?! THAT IS AWESOME!! I love this mode; it's so uniquely terrifying!! Wait....this means DarkWalker is forever in my hard drive..... 😱 Quick, someone engineer a permanent Ward glyph for our consoles/PCs/etc!!!
  17. Me: Oh, Escape The Darkwalker is up! Significant Other: Do you mind if I sit here and read while you play? Me: Of course not, I'll put my headphones on. 1 hour later.... Significant Other: Honey, why are you hiding behind the sofa screaming in horror? Me (imitating survivor): The shadows are moving!.....I'm not alone out here!....It's huge!..... Significant Other: Oh come on, let me try.... 30 minutes later.... Significant Other: AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
