  1. I used the information in this thread and in the steam support link the Hinterland Support person e-mailed me. I think the bigger issue here is that some of the triggers are far too narrow. I had previously mapped the area around Thompson's Crossing, so why didn't it include the Community Hall? I assumed I had everything there because I mapped the town as soon as I arrived. Same goes for the Abandoned Mine and Carter Dam. In any case, I'm very relieved to be done with this achievement. I've got 20 days to go to 500 and then it's just the challenges left.
  2. I'm happy to report that - at long last - I have resolved this issue and earned the achievement. Turns out the problem had nothing to do with the signal fire in Hushed River Valley. Looking through my game files, the Hinterland support person informed me that the one location missing was the Community Hall icon in Pleasant Valley (which overlaps with the Thomson's Crossing location name). I marched over there immediately, stood right in front and mapped it. Apparently this is the only way to get it to actually show up on the map. Also, this did not increase my location count, so the hunch that this achievement isn't so much about the locations discovered number as about revealing key locations on your in-game map is probably correct. Notably, the Community Hall is not listed as essential on the Admin's list for Pleasant Valley. Wow. I am quite happy to finally have this done. A little joy amid the pandemic! Happy hunting, folks!
  3. I was able to locat the save files last night. They were clustered together under Packages. So I sent them off to my Hinterland contact and am now awaiting a response. They're on PST in British Columbia, and I'm on EST, so I'll need to wait a bit into today for any kind of response. A part of me is hoping they'll just send me some sort of file that unlocks the achievement. After this one, I just need to survive for 500 days (I'm on day 427 with my main sandbox) and complete the challenges.
  4. Ya, I was taken aback by it. I mean, I found the signal fire where I Found the signal fire, you know? I distinctly remember doing it too because I was lucky to find a moose satchel in that same location and I was of course stoked. I'm now in the process of gaining access to the save game files through my PC, since The Long Dark is a Windows Play Anywhere title. For whatever reason, I can't find the files in the user data, nor can I even locate a Hinterland folder. It's bizarre and maddening. Aaargh! On the plus side, I'm going into another survival playthrough for the first 25 days without killing an animal achievement. I only have a few left. I might just try to speed run the map locations and see if this unlocks. I don't know what else to do.
  5. I heard back directly from Hinterland Support. They confirmed that the crashed plane icon is important in Mountain Town. I subsequently sketched it. Nothing unlocked. They also pointed out (this was after I sent them screenshots of all my maps) that my Mysterious Signal Fire in Hushed River Valley was in the wrong location (although this is obviously not my fault; mine was a little northwest of the location in the image). They attached an image of where the fire should be, but I went there this morning (and remembered that I had already been there and sketched the area) and there was nothing. The zoomed in map is my screenshot, and you can see that there is nothing there at all aside from the rope climbing rock. Suffice to say that this latest communication did not change anything for me, or really offer any helpful new information. So I hope the next update fixes this issue as well.
  6. I've been in e-mail communication from someone at Hinterland for the last few days. They seem to respond within 24 hours. So someone is at least manning the support system from somewhere. I too will relay what they tell me.
  7. I'm not sure what your point is with any of this. This thread is specifically oriented around the Faithful Cartographer achievement. It's in the name of the thread. I don't care about what the standards of yourself or other players relative to time invested, level of challenge and/or commitment, or days survived, etc. So if you feel like you need to establish that you're a superior player in a game designed around an individual experience, go right ahead. We all marvel at your ability to triumph over self-imposed limitations... in a game. So yes, I value this achievement, hence my presence in this very thread and my efforts to garner more information and provide it when I think it's useful. If my efforts to do this and earn this achievement - which is again the very purpose of this particular thread - bother you, kindly keep it to yourself. Play this game however you want.
  8. That's all well and good. I care about the gaming experience AND achievements. The two don't have to be mutually exclusive. I've dumped 150 hours into this game, and I'd like to have that rewarded through the achievements as distinct from the actual gameplay. I don't want to have to play the game all over again. I'm on a Xbox One, and I'd like to move on to another game once this one is complete, as I feel I've 100% got my money's worth. I'm quite pleased with this game and would recommend it to anyone. I just want my achievement too.
  9. No need to bother with the maps. I'm not sure that locations not listed by the admin count, which I suppose is part of the trouble. It seems to me the easiest way to have created this achievement was to have a set number of locations required, or a completion percentage required. Instead, there seems to be some sort of idiosyncratic in-game tracker we can't see that needs to be "ticked" for the achievement to unlock. I've been in communication with Hinterland about this. Because I'm playing on the Xbox One, they've asked that I submit all my maps to them. I'm not sure what they're hoping to accomplish, but I'm happy to oblige. I will do so as soon as I'm able. For whatever reason, I'm having trouble on Xbox Live sharing the captures, and they won't upload to my OneDrive either. I might just resort to the ole iPhone snap. I'm at a point now where I'm considering just finishing my 500 days achievement (I'm at 310 now) and running through all the maps again. I REALLY don't want to do that, but it seems like the only choice I have. I dunno.
  10. I have mapped all icons and location triggers. I am 100% of this, cross-checking my in-game maps with the list provided by the admin and the list in the steam thread here: https://steamcommunity.com/app/305620/discussions/0/2549465882922508359/ I even managed to unlock the icon for the Abandoned Mine in Pleasant Valley. Use this image for the exact spot I was standing when I used the charcoal. I double-checked this, so I really hope it works for you all. Finally, I increased my locations up to 284. I found a Secret Mountain Path, Deer Blind, and Cave in Bleak Inlet. None of these are listed as official locations, but they all increased my in-game tracker. I don't know what else to do. I'm in contact with Hinterland about this. This is so maddening.
  11. As far as I can tell, I'm missing one icon listed in the above list by the admin of Hinterland. I just got the tower icon in Bleak Inlet, and now I need the one for the cannery. One thing I noticed is that as I mapped the Carter Dam icon (which I did yesterday) in Mystery Lake and then the radio tower in Bleak Inlet my location number did not go up. We'll see with the cannery. This is all super annoying, especially since apparently there was an issue for about 48 hours with Xbox One achievements not unlocking because of a serve crash. C'mon Hinterland, give us some good news on this! Some sort of patch or workaround or retroactive unlock hotfix.
  12. Thanks for replying. That number, while somewhat daunting given all the ground I thought I covered, at least gives me something to aim for! Guess I'll review the locations listed above and my in-game maps to make sure the locations and icons are present.
  13. For those of you who have unlocked the achievement after the Episode 3 update, how many locations do you have listed? I have 281 right now, but it looks like you can get as high as 286 from what I'm reading. In any case, it seems like 278 is the threshold for 100% on the in-game tracker. I really don't know what I'm missing at this point. And I'm aggravated that something can say 100% but the achievement won't unlock.
