  1. If you have a knife or some kind of cutting tool, you could take a thick piece of wood and cut a circular hole in it. Then, with a smaller piece of wood you can 'pry' it in that small hole. Then using your palms to spin the wedged piece of wood back and forth, the friction will eventually cause a fire. This method is used by natives people in Indonesia (learned this studying archaeology lol)
  2. There's some love here for the Hydro dam. I made this post because I remembered that in the Hydro dam many years ago when I first started playing it really creeped me out. And in the corridor leading down I was attacked by a wolf. For years I always thought I assumed I either imagined it or it was a glitch. Recently I discovered that wolf is called Fluffy (I think) and has since been removed from the Dam. But alot of players discussing this wolf all say how creepy the Dam is. I definitely agree. But the MT big house is still the eeriest. It just looks like a cliche haunted house and not having the old woman there in survival is even eerier. Also I think the Hunter's lodge in BR is creepy with the empty bedrooms and the rocking chair
  3. What place would you consider to be the creepiest/scariest place to be in TLD? I think for me it's the old woman's big house in Mountain Town. A desolate town with a big house overlooking is eery!
  4. Wait you can harvest a rabbit from the floor? I thought you could only pick up rabbits? What's the difference between harvesting on floor and inventory?
  5. I like knowing I'm not the only one who makes dumb moves. Here's my latest dumb move: Got caught in a blizzard when doing an overnight ice fishing expedition in the hut, north side of forsaken airfield by the cabin. Blizzard was facing my entrance so the windchill was affecting me. I was still warm, but I panicked (as Forsaken airfield has notoriously long blizzards) and tried to work out if I had enough fuel to last. On the worst half of my judgement I decided I did not, and my best would be to try and make it back to the cabin. It's a simple diagonal left from the hut to the stairs, follow the stairs to the small cave and you're there. Well, silly me forgot that there were 3 wolves circling nearby. I also forgot to drump my fish in the drawers and so I had 3 scent bars. Wolves were in my way and began stalking. Safe to say it did not take long for me to get lost. Freezing, blind, lost and stalked I was eventually attacked and fought off a wolf. My coats scared the other 2 away after my struggle (lucky me). Damaged my bear coat though! (😔). Dropped my fish, ran, hid behind a tree as I had ended up going in the opposite direction. Slept in my bearskin with a fire safe from the wind behind a tree for 1 hour. Woke up to sunrise, blizzard gone, and my ice fishing hut fire still burning. I should have been more patient 😂
  6. From 45% it would make sense to use the repair option. However mine was on 23%. So harvesting and then creating a new roll was more efficient in terms of the condition. The 17 hours crafting time with a hunting knife is the trade off though
  7. I'm 155 days into a custom run. Close to gunloper, I'm playing with no rifle and only a permitted revolver spawn. I have settings balanced between stalker and interloper. My baseline spawn allows for hatchets and knives too. My question is am I getting unlucky with clothing spawns or do certain clothing items not spawn with my settings? I have found snow pants, but I am after the Cowichan sweater, wool longjohns and Mukluks *spoilers for new DLC region below* I have found thess three items exploring the new airfield region in my voyageur run, two of them as loose items. Is clothing RNG as a loose item? My settings: Baseline resources: medium (to allow for knives, hatchets etc ..) Loose items: low Empty container: med Main explored regions: Coastal Highway Desolation Point Mystery Lake Forlorn Muskeg Mountain Town Broken Railroad Forsaken Airfield (And obviously the smaller connecting regions between these.) I am returning from the airfield now and going to head to pleasant valley next. Is it possible to even find these with my settings?
  8. Yeah this happened to me with painkillers just now. Went from roughly 30% down to 2%. I rarely use painkillers anyway so hasn't bothered me too much. Also, in regards to the bearskin bedroll (most players probably know this already) I was only able to repair 55% with 1 cured hide. However, harvesting the bedroll gave me a bear skin hide and therefore I harvested and made a fresh bedroll to 100%. Useful tip for b.s. bedroll players to save some hide
  9. I know this is an old thread but just want to inform people this issue still exists. *slight spoilers for bear skin bed roll location below* On your way to the new Airfield region you can find yourself a bearskin bedroll. I found it at roughly 49% condition if I remember properly. I have been in the airfield for a few days now and I hunted a bear to repair the bed roll. Using it for an in game week took it down to 35%. I accidentaly left my bed roll outside overnight and came back in the morning and it is down to 22%. It lost 13% overnight just being left on the floor. I love the bearskin bedroll but it is truly troublesome to use. Not even sure if this hide will repair it enough to make it worthwhile as I my bearskin coat has just hit 90% and I have had that for over an in game month! That being said, the new region is really cold and blizzards last a long time and are frequent. I'm sure the bearskin bed roll will come in clutch to interloper players as on my custom (between stalker and loper) temps at this region have been as low as -51°c
  10. Quick update on the moose: Was preparing to leave BR when the moose spawned on the pond. I killed him first time (arrow to the head on the charge) and claimed a juicy 40kg of meat and that luscious hide! I also managed to kill the BR bear by using the ledge by the climbing area to shoot down, using scent to attract him over. I am now rich in meat and hide and it is very peaceful here now. Next step: on to explore the new far range territories
  11. I saw a moose early in my game at the gas station in CH. I wonder if this is why? Looks like I'm heading back that way then. Thanks
  12. Hello survivors. I am currently in Broken Railroad and have a temporary base at hunter's lodge. To the north of H. Lodge by the collapsed trees, rabbit grove and cave, there is a tree with moose markings. I really want to hunt him for the satchel as the moose hasn't spawned in ML for me. Trouble is, despite the markings, there is no moose. What gives? I have followed the path, crossed the rickity foot bridge and got to the climbing area that overlooks the maintenance shed. No moose. I know there is a bear below hunters lodge on the pond, but there is also a large number of wolves so I havent checked down there yet. However, where does the moose 'usually' spawn at BR if the markings are north of the lodge?
  13. Wait animals can bury themselves in this game?? Also I checked his den, nothing but bones. I admitted defeat and moved on. Haven't seen him for a few days, presumably dead somewhere
  14. Interestingly the stats say I killed him. Damn. I searched everywhere from the pond, to the logging site and even eastwards back towards the camp office. I listened for the crows, but only found the corpses I've already looted. I feel like I've reconstructed the relationship of Scipio and Hannibal with this bear; the numerous battles fought and lost on both sides that gave eachother their respect
  15. So I've had an interesting war with the Trapper's bear at ML. I decided to transport some unneccesary items over to the Trapper (The camp office is my base). On my way I bumped into the bear. I avoided him but be charged me and left me bruised. No matter. I escaped with my tail between my legs. He ruined my clothing though. So I've spent some time here, killing rabbits, deer and wolves to survive and cure some pelts. I decided to also attempt to kill Mr Grizzly. I have level 3 archery so unfortunately isn't great but I managed to pump 2 arrows into him. The first hit his foot. I tracked him. However second time round ... I also hit his foot. I lost him and so gave up. I was ambushed by a wolf that was waiting over a blind hill, so I killed it, took the meat and headed back. I was beginning to freeze and had no wood for a fire, so my plan was to gather some wood and cook the meat in the shed opposite the Trapper. I completely potato'd my brain and forgot I had 3 bars of scent so .. My Grizzly came to say hello. I was encumbered after logging the wood due to fatigue and so .. round 2 went to Mr Grizzly. I managed to escape back to the Trapper with the bear charging again for me at the dootstep. The next day, with clothing at 30% or less now I decided to have a crack at the bear as my hides were almost cured. I tried to cheese the kill on the ledge but again I just hit his foot and he ran. I now only had 2 arrows left with low condition on them. I didn't see him again for a while. Just now however, I was cooking the rest of my deer meat at the shed and crouched under the crouch area and Mr Grizzly came by again. He couldn't hit me, but he had me trapped. My clothing could not take another hit. I managed to find a spot to stand and I shot him in the head. He ran ofcourse, but as he did a blizzard began so I couldn't track him. It's now been a day in game since that event. I hope, Mr Grizzly, that you survived. I hope you are also injured from the multiple foot shots and the headshot. Don't die on me old boy. I need to know your okay as this poor soul needs your hide ..
  16. How do you guys survive in Interloper? I play this game annually every winter and have done since launch many years ago. I mastered Stalker a long time ago having 100s of days survived a few times, dying only because I get bored (or I delete the save). I have tried Interloper many times but for me it's just too difficult. Even if I can survive the early game, by mid game I am struggling for basics like light and food and I die. My record is 19 days lol. I play on Custom now. I use Interloper settings as my baseline and I adjust a few things: Medium resources so that tools and higher tier clothing can spawn, slightly increased the available loot outside of containers, weather change and blizzards are on high, enabled a revolver (but no rifle) and decreased the wolf attack damage slightly (I think its on High for condition and clothing damage) with a low struggle bonus. I believe my temperature in the world is equivalent to Interloper; even with animal crafted clothing, it is now the late afternoon that it is safe to 'travel' on day 50 otherwise it's just too cold. And resources are slighltly more difficult to obtain than Stalker but manageable. With these settings it is slightly harder than Stalker but not as tough as Interloper. Without access to weapons, tools and with incredibly low resource amount on Interloper, how do you guys do it? It is truly impressive to reach day 100 on Interloper. I have died multiple times in the early game on Interloper (or restarted) simply because I can't find a light source or matches lol
  17. I've mentioned this about a year ago now. Just want to refresh this idea. Title is self explanatory. It really bugs me that I can't wear a scarf because I have 2 headgears on and most of the clothing aesthetics expose your neck. I would never consider a scarf to be a head wear item IRL. Also, Merry Christmas to all the players and to Hinterland studio!
  18. Thanks for the replies. Only just remembered to check this out. Just curious, how do you guys handle wolves on loper as usually my go to is the revolver
  19. Been playing TLD for a long time now. It's that time of year where I annually return to this game. I am looking to play Interloper but I dont know enough about it. I know that certain items don't spawn such as the rifle and certain clothing like the expedition parka but I was wondering what items exactly? Also for more veteran players, is there a better balance between Interloper and Stalker (as stalker is now too easy) through custom settings and how effective is this as I've heard the settings can be bugged at times? (In case your wondering, I am not too fussed on the badges). Cheers
  20. So long story short I went hunting for a moose at the cabin by unnamed pond north or trappers homestead in ML. I really messed up the hunt and was stomped 4 times by the moose and nearly died. After finally killing the moose I have enough food to survive and recover my broken ribs of which I have 4 of them (nice). Trouble is I cant carry any weight and I can't sprint due to my ribs. Sitting around the cabin all day passing time is really boring so I decided to take a small venture to trappers homestead where I have cached some useful supplies previously. After I picked up what I wanted a bear spawned nearby on my way back and began tracking me. It got aggressive and I only just made it back to trappers house. Now here's the weird part. Every time I leave the house, the bear tracks me. I do not have any scent. And even crouched he always heads towards me. He was even as far as the barn at one point when he tracked me. I cannot sprint, and unfortunately. I left my rifle at the other cabin where the moose was. I only have my bow with 4 arrows and my magnum with 4 shots. I have 600 hours on TLD (here you can mock me for screwing up a moose hunt, I deserve that) and I have never seen a bear so hell bent on killing me. Is this a glitch or am I missing something? At this rate, I may have to try to kill him with the bow but my arrows are really low condition
  21. Yeah I remember once when I was surviving in the whaling shed at desolation point (the name of the building escapes me) hiding from a bear and some wolves, i noticed the smashed ceiling with the snow pouring in and it said 'air temperature -3' when outside it was like -18 or something. Desolation point is full of buildings that wouldn't be as warm as say the cabin at mystery lake
  22. Taking the idea from the game 'The Forest' it would be pretty cool to see a modern bow in the game. The bow, perhaps a compound bow, could be a rare find in various spots (not craftable) and being as it is modern it would shoot arrows farther and faster. It could be repaired at a workbench using scrap metal and cured gut. The bow could shoot regular arrows for a minor buff or modern arrows for best benefit (as opposed to the normal survival bow which can only shoot normal arrows). Modern arrows can be found as a rare item or crafted at both a workbench using shaft, gut and feathers and forge (forge to create the shaft with scrap metal, workbench to create the arrow). Overall the idea of the modern bow is a more effective version of the survival bow with some drawbacks. Survival bow: - Lighter (both bow and arrows) and less crafting time on the bench, faster draw speed. Compound bow: - Heavier; S. Bow is 0.5kg, C bow 1kg to 1.5kg. Regular arrows are 0.3kg, modern arrows 0.5kg. Higher crit chance, faster bleed time, slight more range and lenience with aiming. In terms of bleed mechanics, when hunting deer players should aim for the ribs for most efficient bleed. This is true to real life, where hunter - gatherers of our past would aim to puncture the ribs to target lungs / heart and not the head as some animals have incredibly thick skulls. Not sure how it would apply to wolves or bears but the deer mechanics could be improved in that area. What are people's opinions on this?
  23. I think rather than a manual jump mechanic, the option to find jump positions would be better. For example on broken railroads you can find the option to 'press space to jump across'. Just for fun, your weight and energy play a factor. If your player feels it is too dangerous you'll get a hud notificiation and a dialogue telling you so
  24. Thoughts on the idea of bathing in the game? So I was thinking your survivor would get very dirty, grimey and stinky traversing the cold apocalypse and this got me thinking. You should have the option to bathe. But this could have some attributes to make it work. Over time your player should develop a scent (same way as if your carrying food) which attracts wildlife. A hygiene metre could help you keep track of this. If your hygiene reaches too low not only could you attract more wildlife but your are more susceptible to diseases when cut or bitten etc. To avoid this, you should be able to bathe in a house. A small bathtub (portable) could be added which you fill using your watersupply. A fire would be needed to heat the water ofcourse. This could also give way to add more plants in the game which could act as a cleansing mechanic when bathing. The option to clean your clothes could be with this idea too. Thoughts?
