It is likely. I've heard of someone who was attacked by a bear while resting at the step in the middle of a rope climbing point. As Unity seems to have a built-in function to calculate the three dimensional distance, I hope this is the latter case.

I noticed that the music used to be played during the game launch - title screen is gone. Is it intended modification ? If so, I'm a bit sad since I loved it.

This may be slightly different with what acadia pointed out, but some character voices in the cut scenes in EP3 seem to sound differently. Some sounds like it's played from the sound source (the sound is "diffused" depending on the distance between the source and us. So it is the correct way), and some sounds like as if it is played from zero-distance (so there is no "diffusion" ). It was the most noticable in the first cutscene in EP3.
