  1. I am am looking forward too. I have already scouted the airfield. Now I have new goal. Get out and find the red lantern. I already have the light fragile gun. So secondary task is to find the engraved gun. And since loot has been changed, I suppose I will have to get to every little hole on the Great Bear.

BTW the Will plane crash. Was there a tail section not damaged? I cannot remember it clearly. Now when we can access the back compartments, maybe there would be some pretty useful hardcase in there. One could find it and solve the weather problem on the Great Bear.

  2. The bear inside the prison has been since the Blackrock was introduced. It was surprise for me. I thought "it is enclosed area, no big animals could be here" Oh boy I was wrong. Same is for those wolfes trapped between fence and rock. These are there from the start. I wonder if these carnivores were a way how to get rid of misbehaving prisoners.

  3. This is for those who likes to have a base on each map like me. Before visiting the map I thought the airfield will be no brainer. Then I got to the airfield and thought: Resources incredible, but it is not a home. Then I saw Mindfull and Drift cabin. Scenery is incredible (if one can see more then 2m, which is not guaranteed on this map). Then I found Justys Hovel. I think it will be my choice. It is not far from the airfield should I need some crafting. It feels cosy.

On the other hand, maybe I should create semi-bases from all cabins and from the hangar as well. Just leave some food, water and basic materials everywhere. So there is no problem just go out lightly and find a good place to spend a night.

  4. I noticed the missing areas on the map as well. For example the cabin in NW corner. Nice trek there. I stand on the cabin porch and mapped. It is vista, so large portion of map is discovered but the cabin. It is still not there. I know where it is, the map underlayer, or how to call it, shows the rectangle of the map. But there is no map marker showing it is a cabin.

BTW how many cabins you folk found? I found two without loading screen, one with loading screen. And of course there is one completely ruined near airfield.

  5. I have tested the outside metal shed in at the airfield. The one with one heli inside. The fire cannot be placed there as well. No warning about indoor fire. But it is not possible to place it anywhere. Going to report it.

  6. By caves I mean those with loading screen. If I am not mistaken, you cannot start fire there. Only on already presen campfire. Some mines have firebarel. So if these are present, why I cant start mine.

Or I can be mistaken and fire cannot be started in mines only?

  7. I have to say, one thing is not nice in the game. The restriction of indoor fires. I get it for cottages and small buildings. One would not start a fire in such places. But what about big indoor location like the Forsaken Airfield hangar. This space is so big, so I suspect , there is no air exchange problem.

And for the caves? Why not to start fire in cave? Or at least certain places in cave. Like the intrance. Or some caves have the ceilnig collapsed. This would vent just nice.

Or we can have some kind of risk when you start indoor in-cave fire. The fire would have some pollution index. And the space would have ventilation index. Small cottages or such places would have the ventilation index so low so the character would refuse to light a fire there. Some places like cave entrance or collapsed celing spots would have the ventilation index so high, so there would not be any problem to start any amounts of campfires. But the area between could be like "If you start one campfire here. it would increase the suffocation risk xy% per hour". And if you start two or more campfires, the pollution index would add. If you want it more interesting, the fire pollution could vary slightly during the fire time. So one could not count exactly for how long the fire in the place would be safe. And if one would not pay attention to suffocation risk. Well we already have the affliction. I would say 2 minutes to vacate the polluted space? Extinguishing the fire would not do any good.

I know it is whole new mechanic. But I am just rolling my eyes every time I stand in cave entrance or the collapsed part of cave or newly in the hangar and get the message indoor fires are not possible.

  8. Hmm my garden shed almost copy the Long Dark equipment.

Tools: hatchet, knive, heavy hammer, hacksaw, jerry can with fuel and lot of charcoal (enough to map our district I think)

Clothes: kevlar reinforced boots, kevlar reinforced pants, kevlar reinforcer hoodie, windbreaker,  somethink you can call parka and leather work gloves

No firearms due laws. And if I had permission, these cannot be stored in the shed.

Other than that it is mix of stuff, which of course could be re-purposed. For example the chainsaw and powerwash for defending my home and cleaning the traces after that.

  9. My Astrid learned something from the Will. If you want to start airplane, you need to pre-heat engine. She tried the airplane first. But this was not success.

She realised, that fire is maybe too far from engine. So she tries the heli. It was better, but still she was not able to start it.

BTW. You need to start it from outside. Once the fire is going, you are able to feed it and re-ignite from inside. Someone stated, that it suffice character is in wind shade and the fire does not have to be and yet it will not blow. Astrid was inside the heli so fully protected against wind. And yet she was not able to ignite the fire with message that it is too windy.

  10. And about running diesel engine. Once I went to cottage it had a generator. It was powered by tractor engine. It was not easy task to start it, but it was possible in one man. First you have to turn big metal wheel. It was disconected from the engine. When you had enough momentum in the wheel, there was some autoclutch or something, which connected the wheel with engine and started it. It was not very safe. The crank was in some spring powered teeth. When the engine started it should suffice just let the crank  go and it should disengage. Sometimes it did not. Rotating crank was very scary.

Anyway the engine was in the basement with temperature around -5°C. No preheating necessary in this condition. But I do not doubt it would be in -20°C and lower.

  11. I have another thought about already present cars. Almost all have bonnet, isnt it? Just remove the bonnet, make some holes for ropes and you have a sled. And I must say great one. As kids we found two bonnets laying somewhere. Took them on the slope and what a ride. It was hard to steer, but we were brave and kinda stupid then. (now I am only stupid :D )

This is now mostly irrelevant in the game, since we should get travois. But still sled from bonnet to cary weight.
