  1. I do remember few post about waterfalls beeing so loud and wind so loud. I like that new versions have sound changed. But now I feel the opposite way. Walking out in blizzard and I hardly hear the wind. Recently I walked in bilzzard and heard soft noises from grass. Sure it helped me hearing those paws, but I think the wind was tuned down too much. Blizzard noise should be little bit more deafening. Not like it was before, but now it is too quiet. Not sure but it seems like it depends on the map. Some maps have blizzards quieter than other.

Second thing is the directional variability (or how to describe it). Here I am walking through wind in FM. It is headwind and I can hear it. I turn 90° left and the wind sound is gone. I mean totally gone. I turn 90° right and sound is back. Character does not have a hood which would explain this. Maybe the aviator cap could be explanation. I know the wind sound changes according the angle of the wind. But it should not diminish entirely. In my example after turning left, right ear should be full of the wind. Sure it is not comming from the front, so it will be different, but not totally absent.

Dont take me wrong. I love the sound in The Long Dark. I play by ears a lot. This is why I bring te topic. To make sound purrfect (are the cats comming?).

  2. I do have another occurence. Little bit different. Black Rock Prison. I was surrounded by timberwolfes. One came from behind a ridge. I had my revolver ready. So I shot him from point blank and he dropped right about 1m from me. But I was not able to interact with the carcass. So I went to the inside of the substation because night was comming. Next morning the carcass was gone. Found second carcass from the pack nearby. But I got no meat from it either. It was in mid of the road but I was not able to interact with it. The amount of meat I did not get is piling.

  3. We will see. For example the balistic vest. I found it and after few minutes I decided, it is not for my playstyle. I can negotiate with wolfes and bears without it. I can collect it and put it on shelf as nice trophy, but thats it. But the holster... two kilos down of encuberance is tempting and nice.

  4. Not sure of it. I usually wait outside for animal to bleed. So I shot the bear, hid in the car and waited. Not sure if I red a book or rested in the car. Then I got out and found the bear carcass all not responsive.

For the rabbits I understand that snarred rabbits does not exists on the map untill you go to the map from the building. So it is again you on the map and rabit carcass spawning on the map.

  5. So I got the holster recently. It was nice experience to roam through maps. I usually settle for while in each map, but this tale pushed me to nomad style. Now the holster. My current equip is backpack, satchel, crampons and earwrap. I absolutelly love crampons. The way it gives you wings while climbing rope is great. When you have the satchel + earwraps + crampons, you can go to the rope and switch to crampons and be good (when you were not overburdened before). But when you have the outer utility slot occupied by holster, it is different thing. You may be not encumbered while walking to the rope, but when you equip crampons et voila, you cannot climb unless you leave something behind.

Maybe as I was pushed to more nomadic style, I should carry not up to limit, but less.

  6. I encountered this non clickable carcasses two times now. Once a bear and two times snarred rabbits. Lucky me, it was fixed by entering some building and exiting it.

In case of bear carcass, I noticed, that I was able to walk through it. So while crouching I was looking at the world through dead bear eyes.

  7. I think it is worthy trip to Madeira. But you have to be cautious a little. After one week on those levadas, we were so "secure" that when walking on bridge we selected the railing for walking. It seemed safer at the time for us. Nothing bad happened, but looking back. What a fools.

If you plan a trip, try end of April, start of May. We were lucky and floral festival took a place. What a view. Every girl on the island went to the parade, all wearing flowers, flowers cars, flowers on streets.

  8. Funny thing from IRL. I am a rock climber. I have no problem with heights usually. Except one time. North Coast trek in Madeira. 200-400 meters above sea level. It is pretty wide path, but at one moment I could see almost 360° right and left and up and down (mind you about 300m). So nothing to see but blue sky and blue sea. At this momet I got pretty scared. I had to clinch the wall behind me. The fact that there was no rock under my feet but mud on the rock did not help. Other than that I was able to cope with heights pretty normal.

If you wanna see my shame, my girlfriend (now my wife) took a picture crawling me from the spot:

  9. I tried wigling my character under the log, here and there. No luck. I crawled under the log on the oposite side. But there was something like invisible border. I could not walk up the slope. So I decided to goat down. As I am no expert in this, I managed. But at a cost. I remember I saw nothing under my feet one time. It was scary view.

  10. I couldnt resist. Sorry for the title. But seriously. When you want to leave FA, you can take the road. Or you can go North from the hangar through the mountains. It leads to place, where you must cross a ravine on fallen log. Easy task you say. But I took one wrong step when entering the log and I was trapped in the terrain. I was not able to get back on the log. And since I sprained my ankle behind the log, exiting the game was no good. Not sure whether I should report it since I got (more likely goat) away. It costed me only 50% of pants and about 33% of health. Here it is in picture.

  11. My usual strategy to unlock all map first (all broken transmitter in TLD) seems to be not good. I found lot of wires and fuses in the Bleak Inlet. Also I found tons of timberwolfes which seems to be little unusual. One would say buggy. Revolver shots seems to does not scare them, only direct hits. Flashbangs the same. And the Fluffy in the workshop. It did not bit me, but it was running like hell through the shop and it took me good amount of revolver shells to end it.

  12. Not sure if it is bug or not. Here I am at Bleak Inlet: the Fallen Lighthouse. Of course I want to map, it is elevated position. To my surprise, there is Supply Cache on the map.

It is NE from the lighthouse, still on the island.

Went there immediatelly and nothing can be found. There was an aurora next night and voila I could extract the cache from snow.

  13. Recently I found one tip although I play TLD for long time. Write your journal. I dont mean the story of your survivor (of course you can do it too). I mean notes where you left what. There is many items in the Great Bear and you cannot haul all of them on your back. Journal will save you questions like "Where I left my rifle and ammo?".

  14. The fun continues. Here I am in Molly's farm-house preparing for departure. It is after midnight and voila aurora. So I whipped out the radio. Yellow: nothing. Blue though is beeping. So I thought OK then. I followed the direction, keeping eye on wolf pack and bear. The beeping is faster and faster. I think I am close. Suddenly sprains on both hands. No matter I continue. I must be almost there. Then boop-beep. Radio is silent, aurora ends. All I can see is really suspicious heap of snow but I can do nothing with it. I am pretty sure I am at the location, there is nowhere to go in the direction.

OK at least is beutifull morning. Mornings like this are rare at Pleasant Valley. I think the great bear ghost is poking me to stick with my original plan to repair all transmitter first and then continue with some mysteries.

  15. Here I am at Forsaken Airfield. The first transmitter is pretty straightforward. So I planned forward: "Next transmitter closest to me is Forlong Muskeg". OK, it is a swamp. There is no car, so no battery. So I took one from Broken Railroad. Damn those things are heavy. Found the trainsmitter and THE BATTERY WAS THERE. Next the Pleasant Valley. Took no battery, because I expected it is Signal Hill and there must be load of equipment. NOPE. There was no battery there. Now I wait what I can expect in Milton. I suspect the battery can be in the map. But another problem arised. Wires. I have exact number of needed fuses. But the wires I dont have any.

Well played designers, well played (I dont mean it bad).
