  1. I've noticed the respawn rate for wolves on Voyager seems pretty quick. I got into it with the Coastal Highway ice wolves, finished off four of them, and they were all back within a day or two. I think I could have extended that by not harvesting, but I needed the meat and was working towards a second wolf coat. In Broken Railroad, it's hard not to get tangled up in wolves, but it's possible with various tactics. There are some rabbits along the tracks on the way in that will distract a wolf. Also, depending on where you're at with your clothing, Voyager is pretty forgiving with temps, so on the way down from the tracks to the shed you can find a spot to observe the yard for a while and pick your moment to head into it. It's too bad you can't roll down the window when you're in a truck to show them your revolver. Just have to give em the finger instead, then take a nap. 🙂
  2. Perhaps a deep plunge into cabin fever. The dark walker in the solitary mind... Get outside!
  3. You've got a good serial going. Some nice story elements tied into the locations, and a growing sense of dread for those readers who know where he might be heading..🙂
  4. I had an older pc and ran TLD on low res from when I started, somewhere around v.393 Resolute Outfitter - v426 Faithful Cartographer. Got a curious Pilgrim going and had 400+ game days in what felt like no time at all. Still, had a few moments, like falling through the ice while already quite tired, and learning about how pilgrim bears will still maul you. If that doesn't count as a first real try, then I suppose it would be when Custom Settings arrived and I had a harrowing year+ with cold damage and starvation, but eventual survival and newly added regions to explore along the way. Had bad weather, low resources & passive wildlife, but scarce and with max detection range, so early-mid game was a struggle for food and warmth. Good way to practice archery though, and learn that the meager warmth and calories from the different teas are sometimes better, or at least more necessary, than their medical uses. Although not Survival Mode, the Whiteout Challenge was an early favorite for me as well. You think you're doing fine until the last week....😄🐺🐺🐻🌬️
  5. I got two rifle rounds into him, but he still almost tore the front porch off the place trying to get me. 😬
  6. The roof of the cabin is a good spot for bear hunting. It will be very mad if wounded, so sit tight on the ridge line. 😉
  7. Yup. Sometimes it's all the way up in the campground, but I've also seen it near the bridge down there by the shore.
  8. @Catlover and anyone else who's interested... I've been doing a kind of test run on Voyager for the Coastal Challenge Expedition. I'm about 60 days in. I started in Desolation Point and have moved on to Coastal Highway. There's some decent loot, but not an over abundance in these regions. Some of the supply drops will have to consist of meat and pelts or crafted items. I haven't visited Bleak Inlet yet, but I'm pretty well established in CH, so could set out any time. I've just taken out at least four wolves in about two days, so have been busy with that, and will probably go looking for a fifth wolf I struggled with. Then I'll likely enjoy a few wolf free days redistributing some extra supplies and fishing. I'm thinking of having the supply drops at: --Desolation Point (the double lockers + metal container under the stairs at Hibernia and/or inside the Riken), --Bleak Inlet (the outermost fishing hut and/or the collapsed Lighthouse) ++The boat pilot will try to return every 30-60 days, so part of the challenge will be to always leave stuff periodically (if you miss too many drops, the pilot will assume you're dead and stop coming) I've decided it will be good to exclude Coastal Highway as a drop off/pick up zone for supplies. This will increase the challenge a bit and can be explained away easily enough (the boat pilot says, "No way" after seeing all the wolves and weak ice). I haven't been keeping journal entries on this test run yet but will do so on the next one, which will be a Custom Settings adventure. The weather on Voyager is too mild, so I'm going to bring in more cold and blizzards.
  9. You’re welcome and happy trails. 🙂👍🏼 I’ve always liked Nomad. Once you know the maps, it’s fun to try to improve your overall time. It’s always 45 days plus the time in between designated shelters, which can be shortened in various ways.
  10. Hint #2- The way from Pleasant Valley to Mystery Lake is on the southern border. It’s a cave you have to do a little climbing to get to (not rope climbing, just finding a slope).
  11. The Nomad Challenge is a good way to learn the maps for yourself. The difficulty is fairly low so strike out and take a chance. If memory serves, supplies are plentiful and you always have the world map as an overall reference. Hint- there are four ways to leave Mystery Lake. One goes to Forlorn Muskeg, one to Mountain Town, one goes to Pleasant Valley via the Dam & Winding River, and one to Coastal Highway via the Ravine.
  12. Tall structures are at risk of collapse under very windy conditions. Better for them to be remote?
  13. Well, there’s no reason to hurry. Screenshots are always nice if you’re going to document your adventure.
  14. You could start up a “Coastal Challenge Expedition “ thread. Folks could give a brief explanation of their settings (the five maps would be the main constant for everyone), then journal entries or whatever. Might be fun for those who like to post screenshots of their massive loot hauls.
  15. I’d use Custom Settings to fit how difficult you’d like it to be. Bad weather to be sure with lots of blizzards. I guess Medium on the overall resources, so you can feel like you’ve helped your people and not gone on a hopeless expedition. 😄 Or go with Low resources and send em lots of fish and rabbit mittens.
  16. I haven’t fleshed out all the details, but have been thinking about a Coastal challenge. I’d say set up whatever Custom Settings you prefer then: -Start in Desolation Point (story could be you were dropped off in a boat and are there looking for supplies for your small settlement back wherever you came from.) The only other maps you can use are: Old Island Connector, Coastal Highway, Ravine & Bleak Inlet. The mines in DP are open, but the mine from CH to PV is collapsed at the CH entrance. In the Ravine the way to ML is blocked by mountain collapse. In Bleak Inlet, the cave to FM is blocked. The challenge could be to leave as much stuff as you can at certain places to be picked up by your boat pilot. Loot placed in containers nearest the water in DP or BI will eventually decay and be gone (picked up). Or you could choose some other way to determine that it’s “gone” so you’re not tempted to go back for it to aid your own survival.
  17. @stratvox Thanks for sharing your Frozen Delta strategy. Haven’t tried that one yet, but it sounds like fun. I go to Bleak Inlet with most of my guys just because I think it’s visually interesting and a bit different. Getting torn to pieces sometimes isn’t all that bad. 🙃
  18. It's me. Only, I had already posted this picture on the forum. Anyway, good thread idea. I'll be happy to contribute periodically. And thank you. 😀🍻🙂
