  1. The bunkers are small, but if you didn't care about the book covers, and were just packing them for safe storage, it could work. It would be a faster way to get some overall numbers too.
  2. While gathering all the books and papers in Mystery Lake to the rear exit of the Carter Dam, I was searching high and low for a prepper cache. I had the last book on the way back, and was almost ready to give up looking, but then I tried one more slope.. No books inside, but there were some newspapers, tools and other useful things. A lot of sprains this week.
  3. It would be worth trying for a screenshot of them all together. Maybe on the bench in front of the fireplace. I think by the time I've got the Farmhouse Library completed, I'll probably have to make a short video, surveying all the rooms. I doubt I'll be able to get them all in one screenshot.
  4. 😄 Yeah, it is too bad they're not in survival mode, but thanks for posting these.
  5. Leaving the Farmstead to fetch the last two books from Desolation Point, I was lucky to drive some deer through an opening in the fence and across the road. A wolf was waiting and ran one of them down for a kill on the roadway. I wounded the wolf, which died on the river ice behind the farm. I continued on with my book errand, then harvested both and had a cookout on the next night. Well stocked at the Farmstead, I spent several days at Pensive Pond before travelling to Mystery Lake via the Winding River.
  6. In a hazy cave near the Mystery Lake scenic overlook was a guy with a polaroid, an archery magazine, and an open book. He probably dozed off quite comfortably while reading, but forgot to stoke his fire for the long night..
  7. Bit of a patch job, but here are some stats for first (almost) 90 days:
  8. A great location is the northern part of Mountain Town, using St. Christopher's Church as a central hub. Good hunting in all directions, car trunks for meat storage, Milton and the Meadows Farm for big stoves and materials, firewood everywhere, and the workbench Trailer as a jumping off point for the abundant resources of Hushed River Valley. With a scenic trip through the Basin and Muskeg, you'll be fishing up lamp oil & restocking ammo at the glorious Bleak Inlet vacation paradise! 😀🐺🐺🐺
  9. I've got 16 skill books so far on Voyager. That's just from PV, CH, OIC, and DP. Although, I haven't looked everywhere in PV yet. Need to sweep across the northern part on my way up to Timberwolf Mt. So far, the totals for each difficulty are unknown (at least to me), but thanks for sharing your interloper finds. Do you think you've got most or all of em from the entire island?
  10. Hey, that's very cool. I like the cover art.
  11. My favorite part of the trip to Desolation Point is going downhill from Cinder Hills mine to the Coastal Townsite.
  12. The nautical section is growing fast with the addition of the Desolation Point books. I've got two more ship books to bring back. The wolves and bears are making the trips interesting at least. Revolver and rifle skills are on the rise.
  13. I've got this library thing going at the Farmhouse in PV, and hoping it doesn't get derailed with Dec update. In fact, looking forward to adding any books from Ash Canyon when the time comes. I haven't had any trouble with losing gear in previous updates, but that sounds like famous last words...
  14. Two dead deer in the cavern below, but this guy was wounded pretty bad in the caves of Desolation Point.
  15. I set up a nice field camp on the Old Island Connector, with meat in the car trunk and gear in the basement. I've also got a pretty good cache of meat outside the mine at the Desolation Point end. Wolves were really aggressive while I was there, so I ended up with dead deer and rabbits, plus wolf meat. Also had two close calls with the bear near Hibernia. Had to bolt for the mine across the road and heard it chasing, so glad to have my sprinting at 81%.
  16. I think only 5 trips, using your two at a time book curling method. 🥌😀 The skill books don't affect anything except weight, and there's ten other books. I didn't chance it with the standing books, and treated them like the others, one in my backpack, one curling along in front.
  17. If you've got the time, feel free to post numbers of books for each region, and we can eventually approximate a total for the island. Here's everything I found in Desolation Point:
  18. @piddy3825 Hey, that’s interesting. Maybe a skill book that made it past the drawing board for a medical skill that didn’t. Your Wintermute outing is turning up some rare gems indeed!
  19. One can only hope there was some solace before the end.
  20. A word about maps: In my first Pilgrim game, I mapped every region then existing, and have mapped the new regions after each release, but all of these just the one time. In the early days, I studied the maps during down time in the game, but now I do without them, and rely on my own familiarity. I'll occasionally look at the World Map when contemplating a next move. On this challenge, I'll continue to go without mapping, and I'm setting up field camps, or using buildings on route, as supply stations for meat and extra gear. Mapping could prove useful, if time consuming, to players who would like to use spray paint to check off places that are cleared of books. This method could be less time consuming in the end, since you would know not to return to bookless places. I'm not really going for a speedy conclusion, though can appreciate a modest level of efficiency for myself. Since I'm sure my Library won't be done by the December update, the new Ash Canyon region will become an opportunity for me to explore a new region without mapping it at all. Until I'm familiar with it, I'll have to resist the urge to sneak a peek at the new map when it eventually gets posted. I certainly like the look of all the maps in The Long Dark, but this time I'm going to see if I can find my way without one.
  21. I've found & returned the books from Coastal Highway, plus the southern and eastern portion of Pleasant Valley by day 68. This could have been shortened, since I took a week off to go fishing at Pensive Pond. Even then, I found a prepper cache with some newspapers and a reminder to look everywhere. A set of World Book Encyclopedias from 2018 has 22 volumes, so I'll be using that number. There's an asterisk for the Abandoned Mine with the elevator. I did make it down there, and found some papers and a copy of Guns..., but did not complete the search due to taking too much damage from live wires and fear of running out of time. I'll save it for later (or maybe the end), when I'll stock it with adequate supplies to search it with a lantern, and hopefully hold out until the return of aurora.
