  1. Last thing I saw.... Wandering out in HRV during the aurora with the shortwave transceiver, looking for a cache. Survived two wolf attacks, then got cornered by the bear in the river canyon - he mauled me three times and I ran out of bandages. Another stalker lost in the Long Dark...
  2. Agreed - this is Drift Island, and I've never seen a moose there before. He was there in the morning after I slept, so it seems like a valid location.
  3. Yes, decay seems pretty fast. On Stalker, going from ML Camp Office, straight through FM to the BR Railroad Shed, mine went from 100% to 28%. It's particularly nice when you kill a moose or bear far away from one of your camps. Other times, it seems not worth the trouble, especially in messy terrain like TWM or AC, when you're climbing or moving across bridges, through tunnels, etc.
  4. Yes, you can get a hit on the moose from up here. No, your local game warden would not approve of this. (Bonus points if you can tell where I'm shooting from...)
  5. I voted no, but I can definitely see why someone might say that. And there are certainly moments of terror...

  7. Even veteran TLD players may not realize that the game models the animals' excretory functions (Much like in RDR, where the horses defecate at random and often inappropriate intervals), and this is key to spotting the animals, as they will make their characteristic vocalizations when urinating. This doesn't work with the ptarmigans, however, which makes them much harder to hear, because.... ... the P is silent.
  8. So.... I got out of the cave. But the bears won in the end.
  9. So.... I installed MellonLoader, updated my .NET framework, and added the Jump Mod, then restarted my machine. And when I opened TLD..... The bear was gone.... leaving behind the flare shell I killed him with. <shrug> Many thanks to all who offered suggestions! This is a great community.
  10. Zak says in this video that it no longer works... Googling "Long Dark Cheat Codes" now....
  11. Thanks for all the suggestions! Gonna have to look up the campfire trick....
  12. So I killed the bear that came for me in the HRV cave. The problem is, now I can't get out. It's been four days. His carcass is fully harvested, and I'm just sitting in the cave, melting snow, cooking bear steaks (thank heavens for Cooking Level 5!) and passing time. I think that because I'm next to the carcass, it won't de-spawn. I slept before I realised the problem, so I can't quit and restart. Any suggestions? @Support
  13. All of the broth I've found is Ruined, so it's sitting on countertops.
  14. I've noticed a difference - and I like it a lot. The most bizarre incident took place in HRV. I'd just killed the bear that lives in the south-central area near Stairstep Lake and was in that central cave laying down the hide when another bear appeared in the mouth of the cave! Not only did it enter the cave, it ran around the perimeter of the cave twice and then ran out. I managed to hit it once with a panicked revolver shot, then tracked it back north of the river. I've never seen a bear that far from its territory and never had one enter a cave like that. It was an exciting event in that run, and I'm all for removing the predictable animal behavior. Final note - it reminded me of this: “Kilimanjaro is a snow-covered mountain 19,710 feet high, and is said to be the highest mountain in Africa. Its western summit is called the Masai 'Ngaje Ngai', the House of God. Close to the western summit there is a dried and frozen carcass of a leopard. No one has explained what the leopard was seeking at that altitude.”― Hemingway Ernest, The Snows of Kilimanjaro
  15. When I ran the update, I was asleep in the Bleak Inlet watchtower. When I woke up, the Forester's Revolver was sitting on the desk. A nice gift, but ... I think I'd appreciate it more if I'd had to work more for it! Loving the new update.
  16. Concur - the worst thing about it is how rapidly it obscures your vision, especially if you're out in the open and landmarks are limited, you can get lost very easily.
  17. Coming late to the conversation, but just allow me to echo what has been said by many here more eloquently than I. I love the game and I love how Hinterland has built it, and I don't expect a certain timeframe for new development and features. I've gotten my money's worth a hundred times over. Keep it up, @Raphael van Lierop and @Admin Hinterland!
  18. 153 Days on Stalker, begun when TFTFT released. I started randomly in Ash Canyon, which tested my knowledge of the region's geography, but I survived long enough to get the crampons and Technical Backpack. Next stop was, of course, Timberwolf Mountain, where I enjoyed the reset loot tables by not finding everything I expected at the Summit. I took just 3 days in Pleasant Valley, then a few weeks in Mystery Lake, getting good gear, including finding Vaughn's Rifle in the dam. Ready for anything now, I headed to Forsaken Airfield and fully explored it. I love how the vast empty central plain makes minor variations in terrain critical - I stalked a bear out in the open, crouching behind ridges and dips to get close enough for a kill shot with the bow. Even better were the notes left behind in FA that hint at a shadowy conspiracy afoot. Once I'd fully explored FA, I hit Milton and then HRV, as I wanted to get to know it better. I spent almost a month in HRV, getting lost routinely. (I also found the Woodwright's Bow along the way.) Then, once Signal Void dropped, I headed back to FA! After getting the first transmitter repaired, I quickly found a cache of ammo and flares. Nice, but not life-changing. No more signals seemed close, so I relocated to Drift Island. Some Glimmer Fog encounters gave me Insomnia, but that really wasn't very debilitating. After a couple of nights of fishing, the aroura hit again, and I set out in search of more loot! I found another cache, this time with some nice boots and gloves, but .... a pair of wolves, their eyes aglow with that crazy aroura, had begun stalking me. My flashlight kept them off of me for a bit, but the battery began to wane. I tried to switch to my revolver to shoot one and give myself some breathing room, but they were too fast for me. One struggle left me bleeding and staggered, and before I could even stanch the blood loss, the second wolf was on me, and it was all over. So, now to start again! Thanks to everyone at Hinterland who makes this immersive story possible!
  19. A bear can and will run up the back steps at Hibernia Processing in DP and maul you before you can open the door. As you may suspect, I have learned this the hard way.
  20. Great update; I'm really looking forward to the new features, particularly the Tale challenge/adventure. I've gotten far more than my money's worth from TLD over thousands of hours of gameplay, and the way they work with the fans and communicate is part of the what I enjoy about an indie game, so I'm not griping a bit about schedules. (I mean, I WANT a new region every 2 weeks and for all my pet ideas to be implemented, but...)
  21. I thought it was an intentional atmospheric effect...
