  1. Snow is the most abundant thing in The Long Dark. And yet you cannot do anything with it. The “snow shelter” is not even made of snow. It is 15 sticks and 5 cloth. It would be cool if you could make actual snow shelters, or igloos, or snowmen, or clear snow that is blocking a gate.
  2. I found this mound. Is it something? I have never seen it before.
  3. My base is in there. The parkour is not hard, it is just tedious and annoying if you have to do it over and over. It is also mad. The in-game character who set that up was surely on the edge of insanity since he could have just put the rope, or a ladder at the broken stairs instead of all that dangerous schlamassel. Let players bypass it once they have figured it out once. No one wants to do a puzzle they have already figured out, over and over and over and over and over and over and over and…
  4. Or move the step ladder in the workshop to here.
  5. Too many windows to be so dark when it is light enough to see outside.
  6. This is an old observation. But I really think it needs to be addressed. I understand the game design reason for setting up the navigation puzzle that is the Bleak Inlet Cannery Parkour to the Workshop. But it is only an interesting puzzle once. Surely in role-playing logic anyone having figured the thing out once, would do something to shorten it. No one would willingly do it twice. They sure as heck would never jump a second time from a roof to the boat. They could shovel the snow away from the door in front of the car. They could put one of the ladders that are scattered around up against the broken stairs on the shore side of the broken pier building. They could put a climbing rope from the crane on the Workshop side of the broken room so that they could climb up just there. There ought to be a way of “fixing” the connection once the player has first, once, figured the puzzle out. It somewhat spoils the cannery to do this parkour over and over and over and over and over. I genuinely feel annoyed every time I have to do it now that I have done it so many dozens of times. Please, someone needs to address this.
  7. Attached is a screenshot, from inside the cannery, looking directly at one of several large skylights in the roof, AFTER sunrise. It is quite light out. The inside of the cannery should be well lit at this point. In fact, with all those skylights any time it is light enough to see outside, the inside of the Cannery should be much the same. This is an issue as old as Bleak Inlet. But it really ought to be fixed. It makes no sense at all. And while this may be the worst example I know of, it is not the only building where it is much too dark inside when it is daylight outside.
  8. There are five locations. <spoiler> in a shallow cave on top of a pinnacle of rock that you access by tightrope walking a fallen tree just NNW of the West end of the Runaway Bridge, accessed through a crawl-way. in the High Meadow over a rise and down a slope up against an overhang atop the cliff, close to the Vista, close to the West end of the High Meadow bridge. behind a tree just by Wolf’s Jaw Overlook, just west of the Vista up against the cliff face tucked behind a shoulder of rock right of the path, on the left end of a ledge overlooking the Long Falls ravine, quite near a pointing arrow sign at the top of Long Falls in the mining Camp/Gold Mine ravine. </spoiler> If you are sure, I took a screen shot of each one to be sure, that it has not spawned, then I think you had best use a savegame editor and put it into your inventory. Once the region has generated, when you first enter it, if the rifle does not spawn, it cannot be forced to spawn in that savegame. I am surprised though that it is not fixed for you. I sympathize though. Slow walking the search for an item, I did it seven times, kinda renders the joy out of the game.
  9. Ya, if we leave in UNDER the counter. That is how the burned out buildings got that way.
  10. There is a hotplate under a counter in one of the trailers at the Cannery. I want that on top of the counter and I want it red hot during auroras.
  11. So, Hinterland support is amazing. But they confirm that on existing saves. “Unfortunately when fixing the spawn for the Curator's Rifle, we were not able to apply a patch that would forcefully spawn it in pre-existing games. Because item spawning has already taken place in your current game, the rifle will not be able to re-spawn. Starting a new game will result in the correct generation of this item going forward.” I do wish they would release an official save-game editor.
  12. The v2.23 (120705) Quality of Life Update patch notes say, “Fixed an issue which prevented the Curator's Rifle from spawning.” It is apparently not fixed for me. Before the most recent update the Curator’s Rifle was not spawning in my current savegame. As far as I know, neither was Barb’s Rifle. I had searched exhaustively for both, repeatedly without success. I had found Vaughn’s Rifle BEFORE the July updates. I was in Desolation Point headed back to Coastal Highway when this, much appreciated, 2.23 patch launched. So back in Coastal Highway I started searching all the “known” locations for Barb’s Rifle again. And sure enough, it had spawned on “a train log cart near the trailer at the ravine exit,” making me hope that if I returned to Ash Canyon, then the Curator’s Rifle would be waiting for me. It was not. I searched all the “known” spawn locations, this was the sixth time I think. Then, because this sort of thing makes me feel like I am going mad, I went back to all of them and took screen shots of the empty spaces where the rifle might be. And now I am… again… searching the region more generally in case it has spawned somewhere I do not know about. So, once again… the issue which prevented the Curator’s Rifle from spawning, is not fixed.
  13. O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!” He chortled in his joy. Barb’s Rifle spawned. I spent hours searching for it, but then, there it was. This gives me hope that the Curator’s rifle is also perched somewhere. Back to Ash Canyon I go. again…
  14. There could easily have been 49 geometry fixes.
  15. 🤣 Did you ever get the dead screaming bear? It was horrendous, the most horror part of this horror game. Made my skin crawl.
  16. I found the Warden's Revolver and the big handcannon (Hunter's Revolver). But I am not sure of the date I found them. Love the warden’s pistol. Sorry you are not getting it. I found it in the guard tower near the infirmary that you always have to go all the way around to get to. The one with the rope climb.
  17. I suspect that Barb’s Rifle is not spawning just as the Curator’s Rifle is not. I have scoured Coastal Highway twice. No Rifle. I have a theory. I had to restart my playthrough in June. I found Vaughn’s Rifle pretty quickly. Then the v2.19–2.22 updates came out before I made it to Ash Canyon. There was no Curator’s Rifle. And now I am in Coastal Highway… no rifle. I think it was one of those updates that killed the variants. Can’t be sure, but it seems likely. What worries me is not so much if Hinterland does not fix this in a way that restores the rifle variants to my savegame, rifles are heavy so I usually use a bow. But now that I am pretty sure it is affecting two items, I am concerned that other content is missing and will at some future date break my savegame. TLD takes too many hours to play, only to discover that after 250 hours you have to restart again because of a bug. I really do hope that Hinterland includes the functionality to force items and edit and convert save games natively in the vanilla game so that players can overcome these problems without throwing away months of progress.
  18. I wrote this the other day. Then almost immediately found my first ever memento clue in the visor of a car. It was in Coastal Highway. lol
  19. My gods I am interested in seeing the list of fixes. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
  20. I would have happily shared my bear meat with them. I would have let them rest by the fire, maybe even given them a good brushing. But NOOOO! They had to attack me. What am I supposed to do with this huge pile of wolf pelts?
  21. I think I have a couple spare. I may need one to get into Bleak Inlet later. But I would gladly give you one of mine if only I could.
  22. I have never found a memento key in a car. Still on my June start-over. No keys in cars in Mountain Town, Mystery Lake, Pleasant Valley, Blackrock or Coastal Highway. No cars in Timberwolf or Ash Canyon, so I guess they don’t count. I would say I play a custom game on “easier” levels. I have lots of ropes. But I think I found the most of them in Ash Canyon.
  23. I don’t think you are wasting power. It is just a different standard. Electricity seems simple. But the more you learn about it the weirder it gets. I had an electrician explain 3-phase to me one day. So, I have a rudimentary understanding that it makes sense. But I could not effectively explain it in a useful way to someone who is interested without looking it up and doing some preparation. I can wire a three-way switch. But I have to draw it out first. Probably all we are looking at is different standards that more than anything are likely to do with when electrification first happened in a place. The supply to my house is 220V. But typically household wiring only uses half that cycle so 110V. It is possible to bridge the 220V for particular applications, but most things in North America (Canada) are rated for 120 so 110 is fine. The UK is weird because materials shortages post-war meant that some very dodgy standards were used to save wire. That is why in the UK every plug has it’s own fuse. Worldwide standardization would be better. But good luck with that. 😄 Looking at the stoves in Coastal Highway where I am now, I think the texture is supposed to be a propane stove. So the whole conversation is moot. 🥳 I hope you are having a lovely day in Poland. I am sorry that you have those awful Puzzian neighbours a couple of countries over.
  24. Not sure why you would think that. Electric heaters are 1500 W. If I had a big machine shop with a fabricating machine, I would need a 200A service, but otherwise, I can run most any electrical equipment.
  25. For a while, if you got a stone ready to throw, that turned off the Aurora banshees’ wailing. I really wish this still worked, because, while I am not really criticizing the sound design, some people might not be happy with that sound. It really does my head in and should be disable-able in accessibility settings.
