  1. The garage in Coastal Highway is one of the best places to hunt bear. Crouch next to a car door until they are close. Shoot, then immediately enter the car. Even if they charge, you can mess your drawers inside the car where it is safe. That said, such hunting is very tense.
  2. An oldie but a goodie. I am in the maintenance shed on the pier at Bleak Inlet. I am looking up at the big skylights. It is broad daylight on the other side of the glass. I really wish they would spend a bit of time making the interior lighting make sense.
  3. I am sure I have seen that fuse in that spot and reported it long long ago.
  4. This depends on how much you think running out of resources is a fun part of the game I suppose. And clearly, the game being so hard that you always lose pretty quickly is many players’ jam. And that is fine. For me, I would rather there were more gameplay tasks, like maintenance, without that just being resources getting gobbled up to counter wicked fast depreciation. I find it frustrating when things in the game wear so quickly that it all seems to have been purchased from the dollar store. For instance needing to continually sharpen an axe you are using most days is reasonable. But needing to sharpen it maybe ought to be separate from its durability. And of course any sharpening stone that is totally worn out after, what, 20 uses. You should get your money back for that.
  5. I have been using NAV, and once upon a time NUM, since the 1990s. I had never had any problems with Norton Antivirus before. Although at some point they sold me NIS and it was useless. As things stand now. I can’t have it running if it blocks my internet. So, bye bye NAV.
  6. I absolutely love the travois. Most of that is that it is bewilderingly useful. But also, you really have to plan your route with it. And that adds dimension to the game. So good!
  7. I was very new and I was tentatively exploring the rail line through Forlorn Muskeg. A wolf started following me. Back then that really freaked me out. I was making my way around the boxcar you can get up in as the wolf was closing, so I took my shot. I don’t remember if I hit the wolf. I have a feeling it ran off. I was so relieved. And I turned around… The bear was coming around the end of the boxcar I was standing next to. On the north (?) side, where I could not go into the boxcar. And I just panic fired the rifle and that was the first time I ever one-shotted a bear. I mean it was likely, cause its head was already right in front of me. I suspect that I screamed. I definitely jumped. It took me some time to recover. On another occasion I chose a bad place to put down a bedroll and sleep, and was actually woken up by being mauled. That was a surprise. Most of my other bear “encounters” were run into bear, foolishly not immediately flee. Get mauled. Nowadays I really try to avoid bears. I stop and listen for them all the time. Which slows me down. The only time I want to engage a bear is when I can be sure to hunt him while he cannot get me. Like lure it into a killing zone. So much meat.
  8. I want to thank everyone who helped me with this. Your kindness is greatly appreciated. I removed Norton Antivirus. I ran the file remover in terminal to expunge it in its entirety from my computer. And that apparently fixed the problem. It was NAV all along. And apparently the only way you can really turn NAV off is to utterly delete everything about it from your system. 🤦🏽‍♂️ So again. Thank you to this very kind and helpful community for helping me to sort this out. You are all grand.
  9. Sadly, Application Blocking is off in NAV. And if I turn it on (just to check and turn it off again) there is nothing in the list. Nothing has changed in NAV since before this problem started. However, I am thinking of uninstalling NAV. Maybe I will try that.
  10. It is really weird. I do not have firewall turned. The settings in NAV that are called Firewall, I can turn them off and it does not make a difference. And as I say, NAV has been running on this machine for many months (years?) it has not caused a problem before. Today I learned that Steam and TLD do not work in safe mode. I may try again with SIP disabled. However every time I restart this machine now that I have installed Catalina, the next Time Machine backup takes like two hours. Something that mds is doing I think? It sure is bothering my TM backup drive right now. I usually don’t turn the machine off anymore because of this.
  11. I don’t think TLD is accessing the internet. Also, telemetry is off.
  12. Replying to nautofon and Dr. S. My internet connection only on this specific computer does not work while TLD is running. As soon as I quit TLD normal internet is restored. Neither the Ethernet settings and addresses nor the TCPIP addresses change while TLD is running. I normally do not use WiFi, because I have Ethernet, but turning WiFi on doesn’t help. “Can you ping local hosts? Internet hosts? Can you resolve DNS names?” No, not while TLD is running. I cannot send or receive email while TLD is running. Super weirdly, iMessage seems unaffected? WTaF?? Incidentally I have tried disabling Norton AntiVirus. TLD still undermines my internet connection. This same NAV was running on this machine before when this was not happening. While TLD is running, this machine cannot connect with other machines on the LAN/WiFi. I can connect fine if TLD is not running. The other machines using the WiFi, LAN and internet are unaffected. So, it appears that TLD is somehow interfering with my ability to connect to the LAN at all. I have tested this with different browsers. They do not work while TLD is running. The steam overlay does some stuff while TLD is running, but I suspect that it is only the cached bits. Trying to load the store page in Steam just returns some text. In Terminal ping amazon.com works when TLD is not running, lots of pinging. It does not do anything while TLD is running.
  13. It would be strange if I am the only person experiencing this. Are you suggesting that the fates are picking on me? That would be a technical support problem indeed. As I mentioned, I have reported the problem to support. The gods only know how many times I have used the support portal, particularly to let them know about sad polygons. But thanks. My mac is running the latest security updates for the OS I am running. This is a new problem. It started recently possibly with the v2.26 update. But I am not sure. I was recently forced to upgrade from Mojave to Catalina. That could have something to do with it. But as I said, it is only TLD that is doing this. And it is sure as a light switch. Start up TLD — no internet. I suppose it could be some paternalistic nonsense with updated Apple SIP. The thing is it is hard to tell, since increasingly macs give zero feedback about what they are doing or why. And of course, that is why I asked this community.
  14. Crickets? Really? I would have thought this was a serious development. And it is definitely an issue. I have an internet connection right now. If I launch TLD it disables my internet connection on this computer. When I quit TLD the internet connection returns immediately. TLD is now an internet shutoff switch? I don’t know how this could possibly happen. But no application ought to be able to do this.
  15. I find the invisible walls sometimes weird. There are, on some maps like Mountain Town or Mystery Lake, large areas that you can mountain goat to, or in one case, just walk a zig zag up a slope, and this opens up large areas of the map that are somewhat unaccountably unused. I walked onto a large hillside area on the right (unaccountably south or north?) side of the map on the way to the dam in ML. Then I turned around to look back at untextured polys and realized I had walked outside the map. In that case the solution is not an invisible wall, but just to finish that part of the map. And there is a high meadow in Mountain town that is “out of bounds” although you can mountain goat to there. Again, why not just finish it? Some of the “You can’t go here” design decisions, seem somewhat arbitrary. There used to be a puzzle game called MYST that was very beautiful. But sometimes the most obvious solution to a puzzle was, “well, I would just step over this string.” These are the weak points in game design.
  16. A recent change to something has changed the behaviour of my computer when TLD is running. I have normally had a browser window open on a second window when playing TLD or any game. Using the internet while TLD was running was previously never a problem. However recently, since the last update(¿?), launching TLD prevents my computer from accessing the internet. My internet connection is lost once the game menu appears. The LAN and other computers are unaffected. But the computer TLD is running on loses its internet connection. I am on a mac. TLD is from Steam. This does not happen with other Steam games running. It has never happened with any other software and I don’t even understand how it could happen. I have reported it. I got no response. Is this happening to anyone else? Could anyone test it?
  17. This makes me sad. Why will they not release their official save-game editor so we can fix these things ourselves instead of bothering Hinterland?
  18. Something has gone terribly wrong with placing rock caches. They will not go down on most, almost all, open ground. I have ended up creeping around clearings crouched trying to find a seemingly random spot where the placement icon starts flashing madly between red and green then clicking over and over until I just by chance happen to click on a green flash. If this is an intended behaviour, I would like to know what is a “valid” location for a rock cache.
  19. Thank you. I was near a moose spawn so I had wondered if a moose had taken a… done it’s… um dirty business. 😂
  20. On the pond above Milton in the area with the moose spawn. I found it on the opposite side of the road from the exit to Hushed River Valley
  21. I have run into some flying rabbits and several floating items in recent weeks. I suspect that this is not intended, but is it an known issue?
