  1. I'd say the Switch is as good as other devices despite the concerns you may have. Besides, this is Hinterland. They leave no one out if possible.
  2. Category: WINTERMUTE Cosplay Character: Mathis "A locked case. Well, that is interesting. A locked metal case is a thing of the old world, stranger. A world of closed doors and things being off limits. I was part of that world. But that world's over." - Mathis (End of Episode 2) This is a younger version of Mathis before The Quiet Apocalypse happens. His son, Donner has been born several years ago. Mathis has escaped from a litter cleanup crew on the Mainland after a riot broke out. Not sure of what to do in the ensuring chaos he escapes authorities and returns to his family home. His family is thankfully on summer holiday but Mathis doesn't want to raise any suspicion from the neighbors, even in the dark of the night. He finds a electric lantern and searches his past home reminiscing on himself and the mistakes he's made. He will eventually be found by the police and more time will be added to his term. This in which would add to the turmoil Donner is experiencing in not having his father around to guide him growing up and gets into very bad habits, some far worse than his father. This will eventually bring him to Blackrock Federal Penitentiary. Mathis dislikes the choices he's made but blames it on the world around him. He knows the changes he needs to make so he knows when to act to get what he wants and how to manipulate people into giving him favors. This is explained by his future interactions with Franklin who gives him parole after 7 years of a 10 year sentence for a horrendous crime. That of course, doesn't stop him from being convicted to Blackrock Federal Penitentiary for another crime but this time he willingly got convicted to be sent to where his son is to break him out.
  3. Thank you for clarifying this for us. Everyone, do your best and most importantly have fun in doing so. We are all on equal ground no matter what you do or when you post it. Relax and do your best! Remember, two entries possible! Best of luck!
  4. Best of luck! What I'm doing is mainly Wintermute related, just got all the props ready and waiting for a technical part to come in later this week to possibly start the process this weekend. I'm trying to keep it under wraps but I'll say this, it's from a completely different perspective and this could become "uncanon" character development based on this characters actions. This is going to be a unique challenge that I hope gets done properly. And yes, I'm doing another lesser production heavy entry. But overall, wow this has been an ordeal to get the proper designs correct haha
  5. Although likes do count towards this total, for those that come in late should have equal enough chance as those put in weeks ahead of the deadline. Hinterland Studio has the final say in this matter. Which has the most creativity, respect towards the contests and to other's submissions reactions counts too. It's all up for grabs still. With how people can like any post in a thread on these forums that can shift the interest to one side or another. To balance this out I think Hinterland will take reactions into account to highlight the ones that are best in the running then decide from those which are the best likely candidates for the winners. Although, I may be completely mistaken by this idea.
  6. Eh, just lure the wolf in there and... well you get the picture I'm trying to show. 🤣
  7. Don't forget that Hinterland thinks differently than most devs when it comes to updates. They are now at the threshold where they can be more open and explore a wider arrange of subject matter after Wintermute's final episode is completed to their satisfaction. Afterwards, they most likely will have alot more flexibility on how to continue TLD while moving onto the next project at the same time. The information to come out ASAP will be carefully written but put into probably the long-term 15-18 month DLC campaign Raphael talked about in the April Dev Diary. If the track record of Hinterland shows even in the face of the pandemic completely messing everything up, they will continue to provide remarkable updates for us. The price will be reasonable once we grasp entirely what we will get (don't forget non DLC members will STILL get updated content too). Hinterland will not disappoint us, it's had to say that about many companies nowadays but Hinterland's earned the trust of it's player base and fans. Don't forget, there's been no payments required for so many years now when they could've been capitalizing on small DLC additions like other companies tend to do. The next few months will be worth the wait for what's to come soon.
  8. Great images all around! I hope the second image gets #SaturdayScreenshot or #WisdomWednesday recognition. It's gorgeous!
  9. Typically the larger the image the better, so the second image in my opinion. Also, if you have an object clipping the edge of the screen that isn't a background element like trees, rock formations, etc., you should have them either in full view (without being too much in focus incase there's other major object in focus) or out of view entirely. For example, here's a screenshot I took recently. It's easier to take good quality screenshots without having to think too much for what you need is already there in normal gameplay. Finally, take 1-3 screenshots per subject matter incase the players breathing is in the way or something is obstructing your vision. Hope this helps!
  10. Wow, this is incredible! Well done on creating this from my favorite region on Great Bear Island!
  11. The sun rises on a region with an unforgettable past. There is beauty everywhere, even in the most unlikely places.
  12. The stillness of the night. The lantern burns bright. The sky glows behind the aftermath of that faithful night.
  13. Title - Nature's Outcry As I start to drift to sleep I continue to think of what once was the beautiful island of Great Bear torn apart by years of economic and environmental instability. As current lightkeeper of Desolation Point's "Lonely Lighthouse" it's my job to keep the light working as well as can be. That being said, these last few weeks have been completely out of the ordinary. The weather continues to get worse by the day, the wildlife is acting unusual, and the lights... The Aurora has caused a complete power outage... but with unusual side effects. As the days continue to get shorter the suns warmth starts to fade each day. But being able to see it rise everyday fills me with hope. Thankfully I still have a few weeks of canned food that I can ration to spread out longer if needed be. Having the Hibernia Processing whaling station right up the road has been a saving grace of my time here, especially after the power went out. I've been able to scavenge boxes and collect bits and pieces of what was left after the lights went out, making the place impossible to get work done. Whenever possible, I enjoy to walk across the bridge right next to the lighthouse to get my head on straight. Even as a lightkeeper I need to step away for a little bit to regain focus. With the bridge collapsing about a month ago, it's impossible to traverse the way I came in. Thankfully the workers from Hibernia Processing were able to make it across well before it collapsed. Thankfully, I'm doing okay with supplies still. With some wildlife being able to cross the thin ice along the coast every now and again I'll get a couple of fresh meals which helps me greatly with my supplies. I'm able to take my game to The Riken, a old whaling ship that wrecked about 4 years ago. Even with the coastguard setting in to assess the damage done they had not removed it. Thankfully the ship holds a Forge which acts as a heating source, a place to smelt down scrapped metal from Hibernia Processing so I can remake arrow heads for my bow, and a excellent storage hold for my game so the smell doesn't attract predators. The old Stone Church gives a great view of the lighthouse. I always enjoyed seeing locals from Coastal Highway come here on Sundays for service. With being one of the three churches in all of Great Bear despite how large of a region it is, it's great to see that this remote corner of our island gets visitors. That being said, this unfortunate soul faded in the night about three days ago. Their lantern still burnt bright throughout the blizzard the following day. I buried them next to the graves outside. I checked for any form of identification but only found a picture of them and their daughter in the pocket. It seems like they tempted to take their life but decided to let nature decide their fate for them. Unfortunate, if only they were a day sooner I would've been able to save them. During the Aurora, the power briefly turns on for a reason I cannot explain. The lighthouse powers on and I'm able to see any and all damage that needs to be attended to for the next time the light turns on. The Aurora continues to be my favorite thing to watch during the unbearably cold but clear nights at Desolation Point. But, all things must come to an end in the cycle of life. I'm not sure how much longer I can last at the edge of Great Bear but I hope I can survive long enough to last until Spring. If not, I'll have traverse the mine to Coastal Highway to see if anyone's still there or fix up a boat nearby and hope I can make it to the Mainland. That being said, I'm hopeful I will be able to survive this Quiet Apocalypse. The road ahead is a mystery, but the sun continues to shine on my face and give me hope for the future.
  14. The end of one phase and the beginning of another. This is a breath of fresh air for everyone. The split between Story and Survival mode is excellent in planning and updating for the future. All the additions being included are incredible. We wish you the very best for what's to come in 2022 and beyond in the Quiet Apocalypse. Thank you for always providing excellent updates to us! Take care and stay safe during the Winter everyone! Enjoy Blackrock Mountain!
  15. As the Aurora shines bright in Mystery Lake once more we are reminded of what was once was taken over by man. Only small flickers of light remain to try and combat the darkness that surrounds Great Bear Island.
  16. Well, it has been awhile since I've posted anything here. Over a year actually. Hopefully will now change that. Ever since late last year I had an idea in mind to create something special for the community. For how much The Long Dark has changed us all, from the new players all the way to the veterans we've all felt a connection to the game as whole. I've wanted to give back to Hinterland Studios and to the community in the best way I could think of. Unfortunately due to poor weather and the currently epidemic my plans have been pushed back. That being said, I have a quick video that I would appreciate if you would watch. I will hopefully have more videos out soon. But anyways, it's great to be back on the forums. Any and all feedback in the comments will be gladly appreciated. What would you want to see? Any concerns? Constructive criticism is fine too. Also, I'm releasing this on the forums first to see the general feedback. GH010562.mp4 Thank you all again! - MonadoBlade2016
  17. Is there a possibility for a lighter to be implemented into the game? One that takes around .15 kg of oil to have a chance to ignite fires? Yes, having max fishing would make this very beneficial but have it be the least likely to ignite a fire, making it be more useful as a light source with around a quarter of what the storm lantern full usage time is and about half as bright aswell. Had a weird dream about lighters being put it about a week ago, maybe it was a premonition of Steadfast Ranger update next week? ;^)
  18. As I come from Spruce Falls Bridge with some bear goodies, it's late at night, scent full, pack extremely heavy. When I walk onto the bridge I notice the evil eyes of a pack of wolves. With no hesitation I take out my rifle and point blank range kill them. Now, I'm ready for my trip onwards throughout G.B.I. and I came back to say to remind myself of the hardships that await me in Hushed River Valley... and too get some well earned game. I'm low on ammo but I'm determined to push onwards. #ScreenshotSaturday
