@ThePancakeLady let me quote Raphael himself, answering this exact question in the Milton Mailbag dispatch #38: "We're working on what I hope will be a better solution for both Episode Three and the game in general -- a system that "protects" your gear items whenever an interior location or container ends up being changed for whatever reason (sometimes this can happen accidentally, for example if an artist is working in a scene and accidentally selects then moves a container item a tiny bit). The idea would be that we spawn a temporary container, something super obviously not part of the world, and move all your stuff to that magic container until you can get it back. This would hopefully address the various ways in which people might lose lot due to updates, and is generally a good failsafe for us because as careful as we are about not breaking the game or removing your loot, it does happen occasionally and sometimes things slip through our net (ex. one of our players lost a bunch of items they'd stored in the Mountain Town cave that links to Hushed River Valley when we added the cave transition). That said, I think your solution could also work. If you moved everything outside the PV Farmhouse, for example, and then picked it all up such that you didn't have to move (you wouldn't be able to anyway, you'd be so over-encumbered), the items would be on your character (and not in the scene) and therefore (theoretically) you wouldn't lose anything, and post update you could drop it all back into the world and move it back in." The way I interpret this answer is that there will be changes to PV in our sandbox saves once Episode 3 launches, because he specifically states that a solution to this problem is needed for Episode 3 in his very first sentence. At that point I didn't even know a survival update was coming in December so my question was specifically about Ep 3 and what its launch would do to the sandbox. Raphael wouldn't have told me to go through all the trouble to save my stuff from the Episode 3 launch if PV wasn't going to change in our sandbox saves. He said they're "working on" a solution, and that was the last we heard on the topic. Seeing as a number of people have posted similar questions to mine over the last couple of days I figure that I am not the only one to interpret Raphael's answer in this way. Now, especially if I'm wrong and you're right on this: I'd love an update due to the many reasons specified in my lengthy reply to @ManicManiac 's last comment. If I worry over nothing: halleluja! I just want to know.

I think it's way cool that you have so much faith in the devs and maybe I should follow your example. Raphael did mention that they were working on a solution that would circumvent the necessity of hauling all our stuff out of the affected regions. I guess I'm just still traumatised from the literally days-long endevour to get my stuff to safety before Redux launched. I had to gather up everything from Milton, the Muskeg, the Railroad and Mystery Lake and haul it to the Ravine, where I stashed it for safekeeping. Milton especially was a pain in the butt, because the two rope climbs meant I couldn't go one gram over carry capacity. I laboured at that task for close to a week and it sucked a lot of the fun out of playing the game for me. Later I realized that a lot of that work was unnecessary because not all locations were impacted equally. Now, I fully acknowledge that I could have just as well left everything where it was and just risked it, so to speak, but that's my personal messy hoarder demon and I wasn't prepared to lose even a single darn mushroom. Going back to your point about having faith: you are right, of course. Still, I think a tiny disclaimer along the lines of "Don't worry guys, we got you! Play the latest version after Tuesday to see what amazing solution we came up with!" or even "Move everything from the Rural Crossroads and the Farmhouse, but the Barn is a safe storage space!" would ease a lot of players' minds either way and not give away anything spoiler-y. I'm going to be away all weekend, so there is literally no time left for me to save my loot if they come out - let's paint the worst case scenario here - Monday with an announcement that we will have to move all our stuff again because an alternate solution couldn't be implemented in time after all. I'd love to just be HYPED for launch, and not dread a number of soul sucking hours running back and forth through the largest map of the island. I just wanna look forward to the next delicious piece of my favourite game and I know I'm not alone in this ^^ Just my two cen ....well, actually just my lengthy explanation! lol

Thank you both for chiming in. What I actually wanted to know: Will the changes that are DEFINITELY coming to PV with Episode 3 (way ahead of the December Survival Mode update) endanger our loot stashes in various areas and indoor locations around the map - since the map will be updated simultaneously for Story Mode and Survival Mode. This was something we were specifically warned about when Redux was launched and it will be an issue again this time, as confirmed by Raphael in a recent Milton Mailbox. I have asked this question on more than one occasion and was promised a heads-up ahead of launch with enough wiggle room to prepare. Since I have seen a number of people ask the exact same question in other forum threads in the last couple of days I must assume that the question has not yet been answered. I am not looking for Story Mode spoilers or any ingame info about characters or anything. I specifically want to know what the heck will happen to my stuff in PV. But, again, thank you both so much for adding your thoughts.

Not to ... you know ... nag or anything, but I'd really appreciate some more info on what's to come. Launch is 5 days away and still no word about changes to our Sandbox saves. Anything you can share is greatly appreciated. Hyped for Ep. 3!
  5. Wow, thank you so much! That was exactly it. I got it, and I only sprained both wrists and an ankle in the process ^^ On to map CH!
  6. Thanks you guys! I thought the dome on top of the three way cave was the way to go as well, but I can't seem to find a way around/over it any way I try. If someone who has done this (or knows how) could supply a screen shot or two I'd be eternally grateful ❤️
  7. So I've been hanging out in TWM and decided to try and map the whole region. There is this last itty little bit that I can't get for the life of me. It's a large hill with a pile of rocks south and downhill of the Secluded Shelf, or up a narrow path halfway to a cave north of the Engine crash point in Echo Ravine. See screenshots below. I've tried getting to it from a number of angles, mountaingoating up and down the numerous levels of elevation around that point and spraining pretty much every bone there is to sprain thrice over, but to no avail. Any tips or hints are welcome. At this point I'd even be thankful to be told that there's just no way to get it. Cheers!
  8. I'm assuming you're in the valley thats down the rope from Many Falls Vista? The one with the Valley Cave and the Moose Overlook? That one is an absolute bitch to get out of if hindered by injuries. I was trying to look up a possible solution to your problem, and found this wiki page: https://thelongdark.fandom.com/wiki/Broken_ribs Note that in the comments more people describe the exact same scenario. One person suggests taking an emergency stim, though I don't know if that would work tbh. Also note though, that it should be possible to rest completely without taking the medication (if the Wiki is to be trusted!). Maybe you are experiencing an unfortunate bug? Hang in there (ba-dum-tsh).
  9. What a trip! I laughed, I cried, I learned something. All I need from a horror short.

I am SO HYPED for this! I can not wait to play this episode. Thanks for the work you all put into this. I'm also really looking forward to a more extensive update on the changes Episode 3 is going to bring us. I've been fidgety forever about my hallowed hoard of loot in PV and what's gonna become of it. Strapping on my backpack, all ready for a schlepping extravaganza!
  11. I'm glad that Raphael and Muecke sorted out the little misunderstanding/situation that happened with the last Milton mailbag. Alas, I'm left feeling that because of it the questions were answered in a slightly different way than how they could have been. Especially the first question got me excited because it is something I have been thinking about a lot myself. So let me try my hand at rephrasing it and submitting it here for a second consideration by Raphael: How has Episode 3 changed with the addition of the new staff and equipment? Has it altered the story and content itself or is it just a different approach now, like how things are staged and presented? Now, purely as an aside: The whole exchange really broke my heart. Even when reading the comment in the Question Thread I thought "Uh-oh, the question is exciting but this could have been worded better. Someone is going to get chewed up." From the user name I assume that Muecke is a fellow German, and we have a tendency to phrase things in a curt, not to say brusque way, when really we mean no harm. I can only imagine what it must be like for Raphael and the team to be under a constant barrage of demands and toxic commentary. Sometimes it feels like every third entry in the forums here and especially(!) elsewhere is a negative comment on how long releases have taken lately. Keeping that in mind the defensive tone of the answer was expected, but heartbreaking nonetheless. I'm glad you guys made up.
  12. Actually, the longer it stays quiet the more hyped I get, because I figure it means a big announcement is coming soon that they are "saving up" for, so to speak. I mean ... it's almost a certainty at this point ^^
  13. I've encountered the issue of clicking on 40 and landing on 39 as well. The tile on the right side of the main page, not the link in the Milton Mailbag category.
  14. Oh and of course thanks @Raphael van Lierop for answering my question. Glad to hear that my solution would work. I super like the idea of the magic container as well though! It would spare me about 6 hours of hassle that would be better spent getting hyped for future Episodes or updates ^^
  15. @Ice Hole you made my friggin day XD I hadn't even seen this before. Brilliant! @Kiom love the way our minds sync up hahaha! I spit coffee all over my keyboard. I don't think I've ever laughed so heartily about anything TLD related. The longer you look the funnier it gets. You guys have a lovely weekend!
  16. Hey Raph, you kindly answered one of my questions in a previous Mailbag: will we have to move all our stuff out of PV when Episode 3 launches to keep it safe, like we had to do with MT, ML etc for Redux. Your answer basically was "we hope to find a way around this but if we can't you'll get a heads-up". After the last dev diary I thought "let's actually prep for worst case" and trecked over to the PV farmhouse where I keep all my goodies from that region, to sort through everything and plan for a couple of lenghty hauling sessions. Then standing in the middle of my buttload of loot it hit me: wouldn't it be enough if I just picked everything up and had it on my person? I'd be severely over-encumbered, but with a little planning I could make it so that I wouldn't have to move from the spot until after the update. Is that a feasible alternative to schlepping everything out into the mine tunnels? Now, I do realise that it would look hilarious, this hulking bearded man just standong there with about a tonne of equipment strapped to him every which way, but I think I would prefer that to spending countless hours puffing and wheezing my way back and forth through that insane expanse that is PV risking sprains and whatnot.
  17. I'm so sorry you guys, you are so kind to reply to my question and I keep not making it clear what the question was I did update today. I don't even mind that I sprained my ankle. I don't mind that the warning sign was flashing. My question is: is the door step of a fishing hut considered now/has it always been considered (without us being able to see it prior to v 1.48) a slope where one could sprain an ankle? If so, why?
  18. No, 26 of 40 kg, fully rested. This is also not the issue. It's "why is the door of a fishing hut considered a slope?" There was a flashing red warning sign ^^
  19. I'm still curious why I sprained my ankle stepping out of a fishing hut. There was a slope indicator just as you go through the door. Is this an intended feature? Is the 3cm drop between fishing hut floor and ice considered a slope?
  20. Loved the update so far, currently combing over every part of every map looking for ammo and drinks (already found a revolver in PV). Strange thing I witnessed though: I sprained my ankle stepping out of the fishing hut in TWM (21 of 40 kg, well rested, full health). As I could't explain this I went back a couple of steps to see where the supposed slope was, looking for the warning to flash. Turns out it's right when you pass through the door of the hut. Is this working as intended? Is the thought behind this that the surface changes from wood to ice? If so, will you be implementing the same mechanic for stepping from stone to snow or similar?
  21. Let's see the clip and we'll know more. I have never encountered the sound you describe. Have you posted this before or am I having deja-vu?
  22. After Redux and its many exciting additions to the story I have been walking around survival mode with my eyes trained a little bit more towards story clues. Donning my P.I. hat in Milton has recently brought the following factoid to my attention: of the headstones in the cemetery, the three with both name and dates visible seem to mark the graves of young women, including Grey Mother's daughter. Now of course my brain went into overdrive, making up stories, going as far as imagining an ancient virgin-sacrificing cult on Great Bear. Care to comment? If you want to avoid spoilers (please do) then maybe at least you could say if the reasons are story related or something out of the real world.
  23. Good to have you back!! First the forums stay offline for A THOUSAND YEARS, then Hadrian drops off the face of the earth .... I thought I had broken the internet. Btw where is that guy gone to? Has anyone seen or heard from him?
  24. You are welcome! I hope you got to feel amazing when you finally found it. Great point! Keep this in mind for longer runs. I tend to forget it, shove the "ruined" food in a drawer somewhere and then of course it disappears ... so many calories wasted. To get your cooking skill up faster, try to cook every item of food possible before eating it, and be very diligent with making teas. Harvest meat in small pieces so you get more out of it as well (assuming every instance of cooking counts vs. the weight of the item or some other system).
  25. After the announcements in the latest dev diary I'm really excited to see what you'll do with Pleasant Valley. It's a nice enough region but I have to admit it feels a bit empty at times. Now, I think it was before Redux hit that players were warned about upcoming changes to MT, ML, FM and BR in survival mode and that we should move stuff out of the way so as not to lose it when the areas got changed. I panicked and laboured at this for close to three evenings, shlepping all the gear and food I had stashed in those locations to the Ravine (it being the closest unaffected region), going back and forth thinking my precious possesions from my longest running save file could be deleted. Then of course I found out that I needn't have been so thorough and that the actual changes were minimal (from what I could see, might be totally wrong here!) and mostly consisted of furniture and other interior having moved slightly etc. My question is: will this be the case again for Episode 3? I dread having to do this for Pleasant Valley if it comes to that. I have a hoard of loot in the Farmhouse and it gets tedious and boringly repetitive to just haul things back and forth to the next region over. Of course I could always just risk it and leave everything where it is, or become Zen about it and swear off earthly possessions. I'd much prefer to get a slightly more specific warning like "players should move their possessions outside of building X, Y and Z" or something along those lines. Please advise and thank you.
