I've been gone a couple years, but never had this problem. Is this a Steam problem? How do I fix it? It repeatedly pops up while I am playing.

Is it just me, or are the crampons not having their prescribed effect on climbing ropes while in the Coastal Highway region??

Yeah, somebody made a booboo when they updated the list. The original one, now called "Coastal Mountain Region", has 14 total locations. The new one has 13. The old list had an "Abandoned Lookout" location trigger to go with the icon, the new list has just the icon. My best guess is "Coastal Region" list is the latest version, as it has more precise names on the entrance/exit icons.

It allows me to temporarily forget I live in the "real" world. Sandbox only player, never even been tempted to play the episodes for whatever reason. I love me some story, but I'll keep watching for the movie!

Unbelievable. I really appreciate you helping me out here....I took 3 FULL walks through that small cave and am apparently just blind. I even knew what I was looking for. *Sigh* embarrassing.

@HawkThe cave you mention in the quote above is the cave I am talking about that NO LONGER ALLOWS YOU TO EXIT, except for the same way you came in. I'm trying to figure out a different way of saying it. There is one way into that cave, and one way out, and it's the same hole. When was the last time you took that route you are describing?

Hi Hawk....are you saying here you are still able to find a rear (southern) exit to the cave? If yes, when did you last accomplish the mountain goat down to the pond? I last did that route in December/January, but now there is only one way in and out of the cave.

@Laika Ivanova @Cellar_Attic ....congrats Cellar! I'm wondering if you guys are looking at old information regarding requirements. Rural Crossing/Thompson's, Andre's Peak, and Community Hall are all listed in the OP of this thread. I suppose it's possible they've done some ninja-editing, but alas. I look forward to getting this achievement and joining the ranks of the accomplished.

I last played in December and early January and I thought for sure I was able to get out the back of the cave then. I'm wondering if it has been altered again since REDUX, in correlation with them updating the Faithful Cartographer requirements for that region.

Can someone out there confirm for me there is no longer a separate exit for the cave in Mountain Town we enter(ed) to get to the crash site? I know how to get to the crash site (the other way), but I'd like someone to tell me I'm not crazy and there's been a cave-in that blocks access via the Spruce Falls Bridge route. Much appreciated.

Congrats Laika! And thank you....so far so good on my trek...it will be forever before I know if I have a problem with my achievement. There is another player in here somewhere though that may take you up on your offer.

Thanks VHK. And I should be careful with the compass point talk, since I can't really say what's North and South.....although "they say" it can be figured out by following the sun. Apparently the maps aren't all oriented with North going "UP". A fine idea for the makeshift compass.

Trying to determine if it's possible to get the Faithful Cartographer achievement if your Mysterious Signal Fire in HRV spawns at the "northern" location. If you have the achievement, would you mind checking your map to see where your fire is and sharing it? See discussion on page 3 here:

Yeah, your signal fire spawned at the southern location. I wonder if it was originally a static spawn, and the FC achievement was coded to look for that spot, and then not updated when made dynamic. Maybe someone with the achievement has a northern fire and will see this to shut down that idea.

Turns out I did submit a ticket back in January (glad I searched my email before sending another). I replied to it and they've already responded saying it's been fixed and they'll roll it out in the next update.

That's disappointing to hear.....I'd be curious to see the maps from people that have the achievement to see if they too had the upper spawn location for the signal fire. My signal fire spawned to the north as well, but I am possibly a lifetime away from getting to the point where I have the achievement, and thus won't be able to confirm if yours is a "glitch". For that support person to say "your fire is in the wrong spot" is just not accurate.

Before I submit a ticket, I just wanna know if it's this way for anyone else. I'm level 5 cooking, and bear meat is 1hr21min in a cooking pot, and 57 min without the pot. Is that right?

Also, and related.....be able to throw a slab of meat into a pot that already occupies the cooking slot. Same thing as meat to slot, but meat to pot that's in said slot.

You know.....self-reflection and all that. I gotta get this off my chest and see what you all have to say, if anything at all.....mean or sweet....or whatever. Context: The longest I've lived is 200 days on Stalker (not man enough for Interloper). And in that run, I never made it to TWM, HRV, or MT. You see, i think I play pretty slowly. Up until this point, my method has been to "clean" a region and leave it with all resources stocked in a base or two. I also spend time mapping for the achievement......and hunting cairns (and even those awful buffer memories). My conflict: Apparently, as time goes by, loot degrades and weather gets worse. This means, if I want to get those snow pants or exp. jacket, or <insert prized degradable item here>, wherever they may be, I need to get moving and go everywhere ASAP. The effect this has on me is I feel rushed, in a game that's supposedly about not being in a rush. Anyway, me and my inner conflict. Here's some stuff I do that I'm sure would drive most of you crazy: - I'm currently hanging out in the hunting lodge in BR waiting for a bear skin to cure so I can add 55% life to my beardroll. By hanging out, I mean I am finding ANYTHING to do in the area while it cures, rather than just carry it with me or leave it. My brain tells me two things: Don't carry it, too heavy for the trip out (nevermind the weight of the beardroll itself), and two, don't waste it, because that's disrespectful to the bear. I just hope the moose doesn't spawn, because I have this half damaged satchel thing..... - As of 1.69, I avoid wolf contact if at all possible, even though I have 30 rounds with the revolver. I do alot of crawling....this slows me down (and gets boring admittedly). In the past, I could stay upright mostly, drop decoy, and haul ass to my destination. - With the exception of the bear I mentioned above, I pretty much carve, cook, and skin everything. However, I am now leaving guts behind because of the new wolf AI, which makes them more valuable from rabbits if I can find them in a peaceful place not serving as wolf bait. Seems rude to kill the animal and move along without using it. I leave huge piles of meat everywhere, that's a nice calorie source that never goes bad. And I do like to have skins cured waiting for me in caves and buildings to repair my clothing. Before 1.69, the wolf coat was my main exterior, along with rabbit hat and deer boots. NOW, I am wearing the moose cloak for it's protection. I dread the wait to cure THAT hide for a cloak repair. - I maintain "well fed" 100% of the time. - I carry crap as if I never know where I am going to spend my next night. While this is a sound survival tactic, there are times where it's obvious I don't need to do it and could travel lighter. - I strafe alot. Is that slower than walking straight ahead? - I don't use the radial, except for bedroll and charcoal. - I rarely build a snow shelter, as cozy as they are. I am mindful of wasting cloth. If stuck in a blizzard, I find a wind block and tough it out next to a fire. Speaking of which, has anyone been attacked by anything while in a snow shelter since EP? - I extend the life of my fires with sticks, when not necessary, only to melt up more water so I can leave bottles everywhere. Ask me how often those bottles come in handy. 🙄 - I continue to take risks with a health bar between 50-80%, and go about my business. This, even though I've learned my lesson multiple times about being at full health. I've died from wolf attacks I could've survived if I had just slept, drank the tea, or both. That's enough for now.
