  1. I would love to be able to boil seawater to make salt, and cure meats with it for longer term storage. Sounds like a fun bonus for longer games.
  2. Someone on here recommended dropping a single painkiller to mark cave paths, and so now I always do that when entering a cave system. Every time the path forks, I drop a painkiller in the "doorway" of the path before the fork. So if I get stuck, I can at least backtrack to the exit and try again. For complicated caves, sometimes I use painkillers for one exit, and antibiotics for the other direction. Easy to swap out with any other objects like paint cans like others have said. And staying to the left generally works for me as well — it seems like Hinterland accidentally or intentionally designed most of the caves to progress to the left.
  3. I love this idea! They run out so fast with normal use that it makes the mines feel like a one-and-done experience. Finally having another use for the tin cans and charcoal would be great — I wouldn't even mind if you had to trek to the milling machine or a forge to make the canisters. The challenge would balance things out a bit, while also extending gameplay.
  4. That happened to me too, but the Ash Canyon map popped up instead. I was so annoyed thinking I would have to travel that far just to complete the Tale, and then I realized where the real location was and it was so much easier, lol.
  5. Did you ever find it? It took quite a while for the correct spot to appear despite looking all over that area. It almost seemed like it was delayed for a bit somehow.
  6. I know Hinterland deadlines are usually flexible by necessity, but as it's been almost a month since the release and the Mac fix was projected for early January, I would also love to hear any kind of news on this issue.
  7. I don't know if anyone is bummed about the idea of paid Survival Mode updates, but I have gotten SO much out of this game over the past many years for such a tiny initial investment. I'm just happy that Survival Mode updates will keep happening, and I hope the season pass/DLC bundles will help to keep TLD fresh for a long time. Truly the best game I have ever played, hands down. 🥳
  8. I've also used the magnifying glass and made single stick fires for this purpose. I use the two main cooking rocks as the "tail" of the arrow, and point them all in the direction I want to go. Takes a while but they're super visible during storms.
  9. @Broaderpes08Did you know your screenshot made it to Screenshot Saturday?? https://www.instagram.com/p/CKrbnaYFrlt/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link
  10. When I first bought the game, I tried to run it on a basic Mac laptop. In the first scene of Wintermute, you used to have to click repeatedly to pull out the metal shard out of Will's hand. Something about the fast clicking needed to remove the shard just didn't work at all on my computer. So I was just completely stopped from continuing in Story Mode. I was so impressed with the trailer, the artwork, and feel of the game that I bought a USB controller to see if that would fix it. I was juuuust able to pull out the shard with repeated attempts of furious clicking. I stumbled along through the rest of the beginning, barely able to figure out what the game was training me to do. I appreciated the relative safety of that first scene, how it forced you to learn one skill at a time. But I do remember the learning process being really slow going and frustrating until I researched more about the controls. After at least hundreds of hours of game time, I still have fond memories of that experience. It felt like a genuine challenge, simulating some of the stress, confusion, and struggle of real survival. Because I didn't want spoilers from survival mode, I started with no idea of what to expect, and I'm really glad I got to explore the world that way. I later realized that the clicking bug I experienced was the reason I could never fight off wolves, and why I got totally blocked later on in Wintermute using one of the special story weapons. Apparently this bug has shown up for other users too, and has been fixed to some degree. I fiddled with the frame rate and some other graphics settings, and finally got it to work. Thankfully I prefer playing Survival Mode in Pilgrim so it's not an issue generally, but I can see how my experience could have been too frustrating for some people to continue at first.
  11. I just checked to see if I could line up this same shot when I was at the hut, and it's super easy to do. You just have to crouch a few steps back from the door and look up. And I agree about Hinterland — I always love finding amazing angles in each region. It definitely seems like they take the time to create painting-like views hidden in each one.
  12. Sometimes if I'm feeling lazy or especially hesitant about an area, I'll pass time for an hour before attempting something like that. That way I can always quit and restart if I get totally stuck. It's not exactly "immersive" to play this way, but whatever.
  13. WOW. I absolutely love these!! I'd also be very happy to see more.
  14. Update from Hinterland which resolved the glitch: In Steam, go to your Library Right Click on the game title Select Properties Click Set Launch Options... Paste the following line into the provided text box -force-glcore Click OK, then Close.
  15. I just tried this, and it didn't update for me. 😪
  16. Welp, I'm getting multicolored "tv snow" that covers the entire screen every time I boot up the game. I've been really looking forward to this event and would love to be able to play. Just tried twice through Steam. Currently on an iMac, and now I'm going to try and figure out how to submit it as a bug.
  17. Distancing to escape an invisible entity for which there is no known cure? Protective tools in limited supply? Avoidance of a deadly mist that renders enclosed areas unusable? I'VE NEVER BEEN MORE READY
  18. I think this is one of the best trailers I've ever seen. I don't own a Switch but I'm glad more people will be able to enjoy this amazing game.
  19. At first I thought "that's pretty, but why...?" and then I kept scrolling and things got significantly spookier 😱
  20. Love this! It made me remember the feeling of my first time playing the game, and discovering all of the introductory challenges on the way to Milton.
  21. Okay, I thought I was going crazy! I've developed a lot of habits around gear, and I obsessively pick up the bedroll after I'm done using it. I solved the mine puzzle fairly quickly, and after I got out, I was kicking myself for somehow "forgetting" to pick up the bedroll at some point before entering the mine. I'm glad to know I didn't forget it, and rather that it's taken from the player during the cutscene. Considering the size of the bedroll, it makes sense that it could get snagged on debris and not make it down with Astrid. I don't think I lost the lantern, but I usually use flares in the mines to avoid wasting lantern fuel, so now I can't remember.
  22. Is that wolf emoji binary code????
