  1. I've played the game long enough that I've questioned if the game recognizes the fact that I'm chopping wood, or starting a fire that's exposed to the wind from one side, and decides to chuck a blizzard my way. Or start a fire to harvest an animal on Interloper, and there's suddenly a gust of heavy wind, that last long enough to put my fire out, before clearing up to a beautiful day again.

Probably the most recent case was chopping firewood for harvesting a Moose, only for a blizzard to roll in after what was almost half a day of sunny weather. I think performing any action that passes time, like chopping wood, can cause the game to increase the frequency of when weather changes, perhaps to help simulate time passing.

  2. I explored around the Airfield on stalker, and I don't remember finding any rifles. I found a bow that was tucked away. Otherwise I brought my own rifle on my second visit to the airfield.

If I do find any in the future, I'll be sure to quickly mention it.

  3. After hopping onto the game today, I wanted to see if Signal Void had a badge associated with it. After checking my badges, I found that I had already unlocked it. I haven't completed the Tale yet, though I believe I'm on the final step.

I was wondering if anyone has experienced this bug? I believe a similar thing happened with the Darkwalker challenge being permanently added to the game, where I was given the Archivist badge without completing it, before being removed by a later patch.

Just curious if anyone else has experienced this or not?

    Have a good day!

Thank you for posting. We'll investigate this issue. Can you confirm which platform you are playing on, and how long you have noticed this issue? Thank you in advance!

I play the game using Steam on PC. As of right now, the Rim Grill behind the Pleasant Valley farmhouse is the only instance I've found of the bug. I will test other Rim-grills, fire barrels, and stoves as I come across them, and make a list of them here if the bug persists between them.

I'll also submit a bug report under the support page shortly after posting this.

Thank you for all the work you've done! Have a great day!

  5. I accidentally discovered a bug when starting fires with a mag-lens in the Rim Grill just outside of the Pleasant Valley Farmhouse.

It's produced by placing a Recycled Can on top of the Rim Grill, picking it back up, and simply placing the can again. (Doesn't work if the grill is lit.) If you want the cans to be normal size again, simply go inside a building, and back out, they'll be normal size.

Thus, I present to you, tiny recycled cans!

They can get so small, that they fail to render in if you take a step away from them, and can't be picked up again if placed back on the rim grill!

I have no idea why this happens, I know this Rim Grill used to be a burn barrel a while ago.

I'm not using my mods in my game if you're curious.

Well, that's it. I might test what else this can effect, maybe a cooking pot?

Anyway, just wanted to share this little bug that brought a smile to my day.

  6. With the recent additions made to beachcombing (introduced March 30th, 2023), there are many new things to be found when perusing the frozen shorelines of Great Bear, so I wanted to create a place where fellow survivors can share their findings.

Here are some interesting things I found beachcombing for the first time since the new update!

    Survival mode: Stalker

    Location: Bleak Inlet

    image.thumb.png.632599f8262bc9e0da6f5802e4a9b429.png

Washed up Canoe and some arrows. I'll take free arrow heads anyday!

    image.thumb.png.a789a73675836cbe6fb55de474c0fa44.png

Neat little suitcase. Kind of want one now.

    image.thumb.png.0f99ed7f4c1b300da79bd155bebae8ef.png

Large trunk filled with some clothing. Closest thing to a treasure chest!

    image.thumb.png.540f425ab6711d1820f2f09723fc532e.png

Food and tools. This would be a great find for the start of a new game!

    Have a great day!

Just entered Cinder Hills coal mine (PV-CH connector), turned on Spelunker's Lantern, lighting animation normal light flashes. However when the lamp is on, absolute darkness except the lamp model itself.

Can you share a screenshot? I would be extremely interested in seeing this.

  8. Before I had completely learned the region, I was ice fishing in costal highway, and a blizzard rolled in just as I ran out of fuel. I attempted to make my way back to the garage, but I very quickly became lost. After just running around in the blizzard, trying to find anything, I found a random piece of charcoal I left in the middle of the ice. I suddenly remembered where I had dropped this piece of charcoal, and used it to orient myself.

I have a ton of situations where 1 little item saved my bacon.

I was hunting a bear in costal highway, and got mauled by it, only to get up, bandage my wounds, and shot the bear again. I promptly got mauled again, and woke up with a pixel of health remaining and bleeding. I don't think I even had time to apply a bandage, so I immediately popped a stim, shot the bear a third time, killing it, before realizing I didn't have any bandages left, and just booked it back to base, praying that there weren't any wolves immediately between me and the garage. Good times.

It just shows how useful every single item can be. Every tool, clothing item, and medical supply has a use, and forgetting, or running out of these can quickly result in starting a new run. It's why I'm always carrying too much gear, because I "need" all of it lol. This is why I love The Long Dark.

    tell me what you see!

Hmm. I see some tins of coffee and boxes of Herbal Tea on a shelf. I see two lights directly next to each other on the wall, why two though? Wouldn't one just work? I also see a clock, which which is set to approximately 4:15 in the first picture and 4:20 in the second picture. Either there was an aurora for 5 minutes, or an aurora for over 12 hours. I don't recognize where this is, so glimmer fog could have happened as well. Which may mean that you had to place the lantern in the same exact place each time.

I don't use any mods so I'm jealous that you can stack the herbal tea like that. Though at this angle, that herbal tea looks like it's apart of the wall.

Probably overthinking this, but that's what I see.

  10. After experiencing most of the DLC, I just felt like sharing my thoughts.

So far, after exploring the new hub, and airfield region, I AM LOVING them! I didn't go to the new regions for the first DLC update because of spending a ton of time prepping for the journey, which ultimately took long enough for the second part to come out.

I love how calm the hub region is. It truly feels like someplace new compared to the classic regions of Great Bear. Plus, the different transition zones you have to traverse are amazing, bringing so many feelings of wonder, as well as unease traveling through the dark train tunnels, hearing the slight whisper of air and crumbling rocks.

Glimmer fog is such an interesting concept, as having the effect of the aurora take place during the day, as well as having an actual influence over the player, and not just the animals with insomnia brings so many questions.

Acorns are cool! Probably my only complaint is needing to use a heavy hammer to smash them down, instead of a stone, or even the handle of the hatchet, but at the same time I understand needing to balance a renewable source of food and coffee. I also enjoy how long it takes just to prep the acorns for eating/brewing, making me interested if we're going to receive more complex recipes in the future.

I will also say that the smooth animations for repairing the transmitter towers didn't get unnoticed, they are top notch!

Lastly, some small things that bug me:

I do feel bad for interloper players for not being able to participate in the tale, which is understandable, since the reward is more suited for the other difficulties. Though an Idea I had was to replace the rifle holster with a quiver for interloper players when playing on the Interloper difficulty, but I don't know.

Probably the last thing I was sad about is being unable to repair, or make the new survivor bow introduced with the pt. 1 update. It has such an awesome design, but being the collector I am, I don't want to use and break it if it can't be repaired. (I guess this gripe is just a personal thing lol)

Anyway, thanks for reading my ramblings. Overall Hinterland, you've done a fantastic job with this update! Can't wait to see what ells you've got up your sleeve in the future! Thank you for making these in the first place!

    Have a good day everyone!

I think theres some kind of bug with the bedroll. My bedroll was at arround 90% and the bag instantly broke after a wolf attack. This happend now 3 times.

First time I went to ash canyon, bedroll broke, had to start a fresh game.

Now second run, I made sure my bedroll is in good condition, went again to ash canyon for the backpack, got attacked, bedroll ruined.

Went back to timberwolf mountain, got a backup bedroll, repaired it to 100%, went back to ash canyon. Spent arrond 4-5 days on the map, on my way back got in a struggle with a wolf, bedroll ruined again. Probably have to start a new game again now...

Had anyone else similiar problems? I have over 300 hours in the game and never had a broken bedroll. Now 3 broke in a row just in a few days, im pretty sure there is something wrong with the game. I stop playing now for a while because this is gamebreaking

There's a wolf in Hush River Valley that can break your bedroll as well, pretty sure some wolves always attack your bedroll and there's a potential that you ran into the same wolf each time. I don't believe it's an bug, and you were unfortunately extremely unlucky. I've seen streamers have their runs ended by wolves like that, and many have just accepted and even make mental notes of which wolves can do which in a struggle. Too be quick: Wolves have been doing that for a long time, hopefully you don't run into another wolf like that again.

I know I’ve had some issues with picking up a flare.  The video shows the flare in my hand, and still in the ground.  Audio is present, frame is frozen.  Then it just fixes itself.

There are likely a lot of small cases like these in the game, just they only make themselves known to some people.

  13. I've already reported this issue, I'm just curious if anyone ells experiences it.

Simply, upon opening the clothing menu, I experience a massive frame drop, resulting in the menu opening half a second late. This occurs again after selecting a different piece of clothing, before clearing up.

This also occurs when opening the clothing tab in my backpack, causing the frame drop.

I did a little testing, and it occurs regardless of graphics quality, and all game files are determined to be verified, so it may not be the cause.

It's not game breaking, just slows things down a bit, and is the only real issue that I've experienced sense the release of the dlc.

Hinterland has done a great job at cleaning up all the bugs so far, and I'm loving the new dlc items! Thank you Hinterland for the fantastic work you've done!

Yes. It's been around for quite a while..  Some are big enough to use as shelter...if only that was possible🙂

Imagine if they did? Just drop one on the ground and you have a wind break and safe place to create a campfire anywhere you want. That'd be extremely broken lol.
