  1. Yeah, very true. I wasn't complaining either. After the initial panic I reminded myself that this is a game, a survival game. And relaying on keeping tons of decaying meat on the floor whereever, might not be the most clever idea. I hunt less bears and game now. I'm far more after rabbits now. Meanwhile, after 996 days of my pilgrim run, I'm almost not afraid of going out of food. It really makes me enjoy the game even more.
  2. That's true 😉 Happened to me when EP3 came out, as far as I remember. But not in all regions (at least not in TWM).
  3. There are so much more stones in the game that you do not need to carry exactly 50 with you. For my exploration tour though HRV I took 50 stones with me to build a cache right after the entrance to the region. Meanwhile I have mapped a significant part of the map and have already build another 4 caches with stones found in HRV only. I think I would be able to build at least 2 more caches if not for the maximum of 5 per region... I think that caches are a very good addition to the game. Think of it more from the role playing point of view. I mean you still can just drop stuff on the floor of a cave for example. Once you've decided to establish a camp somewhere, you can just pick up some stones while collecting wood, exploring the region or hunting. After a few trips you will easily have the 50 stones for the cache.

    3 to 4

Episode 4 is still in the making 😉
  5. No, it will only dissapear when it 's condition reaches 0% AND it's in a storage container.
  6. I've finally started to explore HRV. It's really a very nice experience. The map is huge, at least that's my feeling right now after seeing maybe a third of it. However you have to stay calm, as you know there is no houses there. You have to find a cave at some point or go back to security of the transition cave in time before the weather worsens. It was an absolute thrilling moment to see the mysterious signal fire for the first time. I still were not able to get there as I didn't have a hatchet in my backpack. By the way there is also another point on the map where you absolutely need a hatchet. Damn, I nearly died there... Now, I'm sitting tight in the cave near pensive vista, before I go all the way back to the transition cave where I've left my hatchet. The night ended with aurora so I took the chance and started my voyage. I've got rewarded by seeing the mysterious signal fire for the first time from very, very far away... I think this is after the first walk around HRV. I was quite surprised but also very relieved after seeing that I came back to the transition cave by chance :) Not a good idea to go for a walk in unknown territory when it's that foggy, I guess...
  7. My guess is that >50% people playing this game do so because of the survival mode. Story mode is a nice to have. How long it takes to complete it does not matter as the updates come for free. I like the attitude to produce quality. I might get angry, a bit, when I'd learned that ep. 4&5 would be cancelled. But in the end I love the game for the survival mode in the first place. I spent >500 hrs on Great Bear Island and I'm still fascinated...
  8. Bear checking out a fishing hut in BI A little moonshine will do... Welcome to Mystery Lake
  9. I really love this feature, but it's true you have too few uses per can. Yesterday I needed 3 cans to mark my thin ice secure way from Poacher's Camp to Old Spence's. On the other hand, after running this way about 5 times back and forth while marking it, I think I should have kept the cans and better mark ways through transition caves instead...
  10. Just found a polaroid in the Rocky Refuge next to the backpack by the fireplace. This is a rocky hill in Milton Basin.
  11. Yes, I've also found one in the Quonset Garage behind the counter. On my "main" pre-existing save.
  12. There's a helpful thread pinned to this part of the forum:
  13. I used to jam a creditcard-sized metal bottle opener between the keys "2", "3" and "W" while I kept "W" pressed for a second. 😎 This is a very valuable tip! By default you have to press Z (autowalk) or S (backwards) to cancel autowalk, but rushing to put down your drink to avoid autojumping off a cliff may have negative effects on your keyboard and other surroundings 😁 It almost happened to me while walking up the hill towards the transition mine from PV to CH. After that I've decided to change the keybind to the mouse.
  14. I really like this update, great job! Autowalk - I've really been waiting for this, but it's strange now after >400 hrs playing without it^^ Spray markings - this is a great idea, especially because you can see most of them on the map. I can imagine how important it is for new players. I had plans to finally explore HRV anyway, so I'm really looking forward to test this feature. But it's true, it's kinda weird that you can summon a spray can without having one in your inventory, even if you are not able to spray on anything then. Mapping - I like the way this is working now. It really makes sense. What's great is that you can see how the fog of war dissapears. Map & Journal improvements - this is so nice! In the past days I was about to start to work on the faithful cartographer achivement. You have really saved me a lot of work to find out what I have missed! Funny to see that I have quite often forgot to take out the charcoal right before or right after I left / entered a new map ("to Ravine", "to coastal highway" missing). Rock caches - another great idea, which really fits the environment of the Long Dark to me. It will be definitely of use during my exploration of HRV. Now I ask myself whether I sould bring the 50 stones with me or whether I will find them there. I've already noticed there are much more stones laying around now. I've found my first polaroid here:

    No Ammo

Isn't it possible to repair the weapons on the milling machine inside the cannery in BI? But I think you need to wait for an aurora to do it.
  18. Hello Raphael, I have short question: shortcut inside BI Cannery - was it all a misunderstanding?
  19. Moonrise over Bleak Inlet, shot from the cave on the little island near the cannery
  20. You'll find it here: https://store.steampowered.com/app/690180/Music_for_The_Long_Dark__Volume_One/
  21. This week I also really hoped for a short replay from the studio if this was all a misunderstanding. I still hope it wasn't and there is a short cut, a place to mount a rope to... I saw a couple of interesting spots, these haven't been mentioned yet - I think... next to the last building before the cannery (my favourite): behind the cannery:
  22. 717d 18d 28m days on pilgrim right now. Still so many things i want to do with my survivor. Currently he's exploring BI. Learning to make bullets. He's still not brave enough to visit HRV. My previous survivor made it to day 45 or so. It was the very first time I was in the SE CH area. He broke into ice in CH trying to get to the south eastern part of Misanthropes Home Island. He made it back to the road and the Waterfront Cottages, but I decided he should cut some wood before getting into a cabin to have something for a fire to get dry... not a good idea in wet clothes.
  23. Do you see the matches in this pic? It's next to the cabin WSW from the Lower Raven Falls. (Pilgrim mode)
  24. I'm probably not up to date, but was the Deadman Challenge a speed run of a kind or was it about surviving as long as possible? I'd thought it was the second one. If I am right, then speedrunning this challenge is contradicting what the Deadman Challenge was all about. Maybe someone should try and survive 100 (or more) days until completing this challenge by visiting the last grave? Maybe that's why the longest time is being recorded in this challenge? PS-I'd love to see the vids of the speedruns as soon as I find some time. I've already started yesterday. There is so much to learn from it. So thanks for posting them!
