  1. You know AirBnB has gone downhill when you want to check in but find a sleeping bear floating at the entrance. I was forced to seek other accommodations. However, his snoring sound followed me halfway across the lake. LoL I have also noticed that after 10 days in Voyager, I have only seen two wolves. Not sure if they have become endangered in the Far Territory. Also, it seems that when we pick up clothing we don't automatically wear it. That was they way it worked for a long time, but I could have sworn the more recent iterations of the game had us putting it on automatically if there was an open slot for that type. bear-in-the-air.mp4
  2. Just a thought...people may want to tag their post if it has a spoiler. People could come here for technical guidance but not want to know exactly where things are.
  3. I seriously doubt that would happen. Usually we only lose saves when a complete system change happens, and this update was a major overhaul of the basic game structure. When you are playing a game that is early release you might see this happen several times, but I believe this has only happened once or twice since TLD started.
  4. You can adjust Brightness in the Options, from the main menu. It doesn't seem to present the same option panel when you are in-game.
  5. So the game is running and I tried to update again and it wont let me. The interface looks different and there are what looks like new sections on the map, but there are no names and I cannot select them to start there. I am on Windows 10 As far as playing old saves in the Time Capsule...Will that only work for people that use the Steam cloud to save their games? I only save mine locally. However, after uninstalling and reinstalling the game, I still see my save files in the appdata/Local/Hinterland files. So maybe they will still work in the Capsule. They dont show in the "load" section though, as expected.
  6. The game now loads after moving that file, but does not seem to have the DLC installed. I am going to try to redownload the DLC files. I will report back. Moving that file seems to work for getting the game to play. That said, messing with files on your C drive can screw up your computer so I would advise against messing with them. I am sure that Hinterland will re-release the files now that they know where the problem is. For those who are savvy and comfortable with files... If your game files are in program File (86) here is your path: C/program files (86)/Steam/steamapps/common/TheLongDark/tld_dlc/wintermute In that tld_dlc folder is a folder called Wintermute. I moved that file baselbb.dll from there into the main TheLongDark folder. So that gets the game working, but not the DLC...fingers crossed on the next step.
  7. Patience...they may be trying to get the Steam release sorted out so they can squash any launch bugs before pushing it into Epic. Think of it this way...we are all logging in and out, then uninstalling and reinstalling...and you get to reap the rewards.
  8. My guess is that it is faster and easier to tweet from a phone on the fly than log into a forum and post. That said...I hate giving the Elon any support so I will wait for news to come through the grapevine.
  9. Another download kicked in. I waited for it to finish and then logged out of Steam and back in. Still just getting that error. *Note: I doubt Raph would let there be a huge disconnect between marketing and development. Wizards of the Coast? Yes,. Blizzard? Yes. Hinterland, Not so much.... I still think it's just a bug that kicked in through the Steam client. jmtc edited to add: I'm sure they are watching the comments here and on Steam. They have put a lot of work into this so they are probably hovering like a guardian eagle. LoL...and they are probably scrambling to get it fixed asap. I'm not too worried. I know they will take care of us. And really...Fatal Error in TLD? It's become a way of life for me, especially in Interloper.
  10. I am sure they did extensive testing but some glitches just don't present until they are "in the wild".
  11. It did not start the download until about 15 minutes after the purchase and I had already started the game several times - finally the game updated. Now I am also getting that "failure to load il2cpp" error. (This is through Steam) Have restarted and rebooted, no change. There is a thread in the Steam forum where others are experiencing the same issues. Big releases can be glitchy...fingers crossed its an easy fix!
  12. Amazing! I consider that double lucky - killing the moose with a single arrow to the head (and in what must have been a surprise moment - I mean really...how often do they chase you into a cave?!) - but also lucky that you were recording so can relive the moment. My luckiest was also my unluckiest. I thought I was recording and was so excited about what had happened, that I ran to save and look at the video, only to realize that I hadn't hit the play button. But I still have an awesome memory of bear hunting on TWM...up over the cave clinging to the ledge when I realized he had come up around and was now charging me, so I dropped down to the next rock on the ledge and the bear FLEW over my head. I am not kidding - he just kept going.
  13. Not gonna cram but will try to tie up a few loose ends. I would have liked to unlock all the achievements but I still don't have that rabbit kill one and have come to terms with the fact that it's never gonna happen. I just cannot kill the little beggars - the skill eludes me for some reason. I don't die much any more (I am usually on voyager or stalker) but Interloper has taught me the art of letting go - so I'm not worries about losing saves. In fact, its kind of like starting over with a clean slate.
  14. You are my Billy Goat Hero! I have been trying to free climb TM since I started playing and never found these routes. I use these techniques to get up the back side of the lighthouse in DP, and always billy goat down the TWM summit, but I really never thought it was possible to go up. Thanks for sharing and thanks for doing it natural. I don't do glitches or cheats/exploits either. LoL - I actually didn't know those existed before watching your video - although one time I was trying to free climb up out of that basin in MT and ended up off the map walking around for awhile. That was an adventure.
  15. Raphael seems to have a good handle on the community and the game market, in addition to actually caring about TLD, so I believe we can all extend a little trust. He hit the nail on the head when he spoke about understanding that people are afraid of losing something they love. Anyone used to purchasing a product is then used to it being the same product every time they go to use it. It's familiar and always lives up to expectations. It never requires a learning curve for a new feature or becomes incompatible with existing equipment. But the days of purchasing products are slowly falling behind us...now we subscribe to games instead of owning them. Total loss of control and lots of people don't care for it. I don't mind admitting, I am one of them. I hate the whole subscription thing. I prefer to own what I pay for - mostly because too many times I paid money for something that later became worthless to me. However, when a company does it right, it means we gain instead of lose. The game evolves and becomes more and better than it was before. Unfortunately, most game companies get it wrong. So that's where the trust comes in. I have learned to trust Raphael and his team over the past years because they have consistently worked to keep TLD from becoming a mainstream money muncher and have remained true to the TLD story and vibe. They even went the extra mile to create that time capsule so that people could still play older versions of the game. That isn't just about nostalgia, but also help if computer specs can't handle new code or graphics. Most companies would not have done that...they would have waited 5 years and put out a "vintage edition" and charged extra money for it. So yeah, I am a total control freak gamer and if I am willing to have a little faith in the TLD / Hinterland team, you can too.
  16. Like jeffpeng said, if you wait for the bear to bleed out you can just find it at the cave, which provides a nice shelter for harvesting and cooking. I notice wolves tend to "sink" into rocks quite a bit, so look carefully. The blood trails for the deer seem most consistent for me, but if you stand up and start to follow them, they run faster and farther. I usually just settle in place and wait them out, then listen for the crows.
  17. True, those X-boxes have not died. They are gathering at the outer edges of the galaxy and will eventually unite to form the first Borg vessel.
  18. I never get bored with this game. I do experience a little "empty drawer fatigue" from time to time, and games that go past a few hundred days can hit a "plateau" - but pushing past always reveals new challenges. No matter how well stockpiled you are at any given point, eventually resources will diminish (and things like cloth and metal cannot be magically regenerated). If anyone feels bored with their TLD run, the easiest way to cure that is to start a new run, since no two runs are exactly the same.
  19. Im probably a minority on this, but I would rather see new places to explore than new objects. If//when objects do get added, I like when they are consistent with what people on an isolated island like Great Bear might actually have around, or things that a person would end up making if they were really in this situation. For instance, if I was going to quarter an animal I would definitely build some sort of travois or sled to haul the meat. I doubt I will use the noisemakers outside of EP4, but I do think they are a good addition to the game as they are consistent with available resources and give additional protection to new or causal players.
  20. Thank you for the update - and for the transparency. I've always been impressed by how much you communicate. Most companies do not bother with that. Bugs are to be expected as there is no way you can test every single permutation of computer configurations and browser settings. But most people do not know that, so I love that you educate your audience this way. Until you are troubleshooting a problem you cant duplicate, you can not fully understand how hard it is to fix a ghost! What is more important than the bugs, is how you handle them - and you do a great job of prioritizing and implementing fixes. T I love Episode 4 and am looking really forward to the Survival mode update! Sure, skipping the 4DON is a bit disappointing, but only because it's so much fun. Its a good call though, as the Episode and Survival modes are more important. Maybe someday we will find the old versions of 4DON on the time capsule. :) Thanks again for all your hard work and the great game!
  21. For the longest time I thought she had been moved to DP. The wolf in that cave under the broken bridge is pretty darn big!
  22. I also do this. I sometimes do it by lighting campfires if I have enough wood because the burned out sites are easy to see in a blizzard and the initial fire will discourage the wolves in some areas. The downfall is that once you leave the map, those fire sites disappear. The sticks, rocks, and cat tails heads seem to stay put. This method is also handy if you are in a unfamiliar cave. You can even arrange sticks to form arrows and mark a trail. I actually prefer this to the spray paint because I dont have to take on more weight, just gather a few resources from the surrounding area or use sticks that I am carrying anyway.
  23. @AdamvR Okay, now you have inspired me to give that map a little more time. TY!
  24. @kchiortu - Love the Ferris Bueller reference! I think some folks may have missed the irony that you were pointing out that most of this thread is merely idle speculation by all of us who have no direct idea of what is going on or why. @ Funguy - If they are no longer advertising for a community engagement person, it probably means they have hired one. But even when you hire a person there is an oboarding process to get them up to speed on the company and how the role should be handled. Plans/strategies will be made and they will need to learn what is where and how things work. Give it some time. Its a huge job and anyone would need a little time to wrap their head around it all before jumping in and engaging with a forum. @Funguy
