  2. @Leeanda 1st run for some time and i went to some crows cricling high on the slow behind Old Spence's forge and there was a woof right by a frozen carcass. It barked at me and i didn't see it eating but its the tiny high up bit of slope... coincidence? I think not! so either wolves can roam/sniff/visit carcasses or there is a set piece where the carcass spawns with a wolf. Or something...more mysterious.
  3. Sorry about the untimely death. Does sound like the temperature dropped while sleeping. Gotta be real careful about that. Keep in mind that sleeping in short bursts is just as good for the 'awake' bar as long sleeps - you only improve your condition at a higher rate the longer you sleep. Just be careful with colder locations. That lighthouse is freezing!
  4. So my run has had bedrolls in the hunting blinds in ML and PV (near TWM access). I've always found that some runs have lots of something and less of another but i assume key items a guarantee'd to be somewhere and now that somewhere could be anywhere. I'm all for this. In my current run I'm still on improvised hand wraps as i've found just two pairs of gloves (eventually) and neither were better than my hand wraps. 😀
  5. How goes it @Robbiieeee? There are lots of good tips in this thread but I'm gonna add my tuppence. I just started a new interloper game and matches were a struggle. My advice on interloper is to move lots early game. Map knowledge is important for this obviously. Moving through the maps, hitting loot spots will keep you in food and steadily improve your gear. You can cover a lot of distance if you burn some condition. I learnt interloper, at someones recommendation, by aiming to summit TWM by day 10. It teaches you how fast you can move and what gear really matters. Dont forget to drink coffee for those rope climbs and remember you move fastest when fully rested (so only run if you need to escape a threat to save your energy). Good luck! Its worth the pain 🙂
  6. I went there once (interloper). The wolves came. I escape the pack but didn't have enough bandages. Bled out trying to craft more. I don't mean to return.

    TLD Bingo

This is cool @coolkbut for my sanity - 1 deer is a deer, lots of them are also 'deer', not deers. Don't know why. Have fun playing Bingo.
  8. Very nice 👍 (that cave moose kill shot must have been intense)
  9. I feel your pain @Chris Taylor, wind direction can feel totally BS. And like @Glflegolassays, it would be nice if there were some sort of prevailing wind/weather patterns for great bear that you could learn. Still, disliking that aside, i agree with @ManicManiacthat its still managable - plus keeping a fire going through a storm is a very satisfying part of the challenge. Sure is a pain if you just want to sleep though. @hozz1235 i hate that wind in your face thing. RWindG does not feel random. I even walk looking sideways to avoid it. Makes the wolves wonder what i'm looking at..
  10. I'm now in CH and realize my roll mat is still on the floor of the pleasant valley farmstead... 🙃
  11. Nice! An excellent adventure. Who will be the first to conquer the Zero challenge? 0 time spent indoors on an interloper run (note the game counts anyrhing much past the entrance of a cave as indoors!)
  12. AC is nothing but character for me! Almost too nuch so. I first encountered in awful weather arriving in the burnt forest and how atmospheric was that!? Hunched in the tiny burnt out hut, a wolf prowling outside not knowing where to head. Then walked the longest route, which was an incredible journey - but i wouldn't repeat it, which feels a big flaw. But its redemed by the area around the clombers cave being great for a long outdoor stay. Camped out in the cave, hunting deer and moose, watching the weather rage and settle - ita a great spot, just a little remote but worth returning to.
  13. @desertedonei had a similar issue - started in ML, no bedroll in any of the key locations. Nor any in PV farm, town, nearby caves or cave system near TWM access. I decided to go TWM, up to higher AC access and then slept in the open cave/ledge bed in AC, then onto the foreman's house and gold mine. With full sleep and coffee i summitted TWM from the gold mine and got to mountaineers hut with 10% energy so its a doable trip without bedroll. Then found one at the hunting blind in PV just near the TWM access. Sods law! Good luck finding one..!
  14. Just started a loper run in ML and couldn't find matches anywhere but did get mag glass in camp office. Stull had to bug out via dam toilets as it was cloudy.
  15. Or kill the bear. But yes, caution! I had some weird wolf fire behaviour. Three just near ML camp office. Had a fire and used a few torches to send them packing. But on more than one occasion a wolf would approach, stop, growl and then stay that way. I could walk right up to it and around it. Only throwing another torch snapped them out of it. Definitely buggy. Hard to replicate I imagine.
  16. @Glacia you English is great and your point is well made. I do see the appeal of more key loot to seek out. However, does this change the long game or just delay that 'no reason to explore' moment? I don't believe TLD will see a major change but still, some other ideas: - Quakes destroying structures: periodic quakes begin turning warm locations into ruins. Psuedo random but eventually all warm indoor locations become like the mountaineer's hut or worse. - Survivors needing help: occasionally you'll enter a zone and see a flare launched. This will be from a survivor stuck in a sheltered but outdoor spot who's health makes them unable to travel. You need to provide food, fire and some key craftable clothing and medical aid to enable them to move on. They might thank you with a simple but useful item - matches, sewing kit, etc.
  17. I do like this idea - it makes sense. I don't think the impact would be huge though as buildings are pretty warm already. But I'd favour some linear decrees over days if the building isn't drafty. The mountaineers hut would always be cold in minutes without a fire. I'd like cast iron woodburners to stay warm for a few hours too.
  18. Totally agree. It's a shining achievement and I'm thankful to share in the fruits of HL's passion. It might be a strange accolade but my nephew recently started playing TLD and said this: "FortNite is now my second favourite game". Amen.
  19. The +3 degrees temp from a lit torch is useful to keep in mind. And of course their anti wolf capabilities are vital. I'm a bit obsessed with torches, especially when travelling.
  20. And so a new interloper run. Started in Timberwolf mountain with a hacksaw at the hut so I figure: let's do this! 2 days later I'm at the summit having hit Ash Canyon on route and picked up the backpack/crampons and a sweet bear skin coat! Fast forward 12 days and I'm in the camp office, mystery lake, at the end of some serious montage activity. I've been getting tooled to go back to BlackRock and kill every last mother crushing Timberwolf. 2 blue flares, bow and a ton of arrows. I step out the front door. And then I think: bugger this. What is the point? They can have BlackRock. I head back inside. And all is right in the quiet apocalypse once more.
  21. Congrats! Useful as dropping a bear first shot is, it sure is an anticlimax when you've been so careful! But yes, you don't need to haul it all immediately. Necessity is a good teacher. Being more nomadic/opportunistic can be a real eye opener. Happy hunting!
  22. @Kranium good point! So maybe we would need to take sea water from a sea ice hole?
  23. I like your thinking on salt sources. You could add to option to melt sea ice when on sea ice in coastal zones. Boiling this dry would give salt. Mixing with meats would drastically reduce condition loss (and increase thirst on eating). Could be quite neat. Ultimately, there is a mechanical elephant in the room with the sub zero temps and food stores outdoors - the world is your freezer. I'd be up for food behaving like rabbit carcasses but I'd like them to preserve better when frozen.
  24. In survival, it certainly makes sense that that poorly dressed novice, stranded in the snow on day 1, would develop physically by day 100. In some ways, feats reflect this but they are tied more to your playing of TLD dark than the survivor's experience. I do like the idea of going further than the 'well fed bonus' so that the player develops over time - maybe another skill like cooking or sewing - but where levels give extra carry weight, grip, better pace up inclines, etc. But work done needs energy so more calories. Not sure about messing with that system... I don't see why this would be about raw meat. And because indisputable facts just have to be disputed - some players, once surviving comfortably, take it real easy!
  25. So how goes it @NickBeast17?
