  1. Another brilliant idea. Community art contest? nudge nudge wink wink
  2. @LucidFugue not sure what you're getting at. My understanding is CF was put in place to counter hibernation style play to compete for longest survival time leader board. That leader board is no more, so there's no real incentive for hibernation play, which in turn means no real reason to keep Cabin Fever. Hunkering down playstyle doesn't come close to exploiting game mechanics as hibernation play style from what I understand. Currently CF prevents passing time or sleeping indoors completely, that is rather drastic, especially in the situations you mentioned. Trigger condition is very simplistic as well, only the amount of time spent in doors matters, with no regards to activities undertaken during that time. The suggestions address both mechanism to counter CF as well as more sensible and nuanced trigger conditions. Are you suggesting Cabin Fever should be done away with altogether? I don't see any thing really bad about that option. But overall consensus seems favor adjusting the mechanic to add more depth rather than getting rid of it totally. Like others here I think expanding cabin fever rather than eliminating it is good opportunity to add width and depth to game play.
  3. @LucidFugue That's the goal here no? to adjust Cabin Fever since it's very narrow in scope, currently the only way to alleviate it is going outside and on interloper that's sometimes life and death. All the suggestions are geared to expand the mechanic so there are variety of ways to alleviate it, both indoors and outdoors. Take your example specifically, instead of being forced outdoors by cabin fever when you're trying to recover from food poisoning and taking shelter from extended storms, you could stay inside long enough without dying (if not recovering), and/or attempt to do some leisure reading, or noodle on a guitar, to alleviate cabin fever and pass time till such time you can go outside.
  4. +1 for books to relieve cabin fever. a lot of literature classics can be included without copyright problems
  5. didn't hibernation style develope because there was a leader board for longest survival time?
  6. I think it would work fine if you are not able to recover anything resting indoors with cabin fever, and reduce maximum amount of time one can sleep at a stretch to 4hrs instead of 12. you can sleep anywhere you want, as much as you want, just no real benefit from sleeping indoors when you have cabin fever, and a little more clicking while indoors. It's really just a "nag" incentive to get out and explore, too hefty a penalty (no ability to rest/pass time at all) feels unfair, too nuanced effects just confuses players.
  7. definitely something not right... any other uncovered body part would get frostbite onset in a matter of hours outside in PV.
  8. 7 days so far in PV, normal activity, collecting woods and shooting deers. no shoes/socks, no frostbite, no problems. normal clothing otherwise.
  9. About half of that time is with only feet uncovered, I got frostbite risk once in the foot in crumbling highway. I was testing if there's max limit to frost bites, there doesn't appear to be, so one can die from it. I got impatient with risking only feet after I got to PV, and uncovered head and hands. the new frostbites in head and hands happened over 2 to 3 days, very quickly. It's probable head and hands are prioritized over feet. Kind of odd decision given feet is in direct contact with all the cold stuff, certainly no warmer than the air. I'll have to test some more.
  10. Apparently shoes and socks aren't as important as you imagine... I been romping about without shoes for about a week. trekked from east end of Coastal Highway to Pleasant Valley without shoes or socks (also head covering and gloves). walked on snow, road, ice, rock. In that time I got 1 frostbite to the head, 2 frostbite to hands, 0 to feet.
  11. What I'm really dying to know is when is the next Signal Hill Radio episode.
  12. I do think it's be better to bring back the roadmap. I understand your reasoning and sentiments for wanting to hold your cards closer to your chest, but if other games I've played and observed is any indication, more transparency is always better than less. And the community will be supportive and forgiving, probably more than you anticipate. The road map need not have any time line, it's not a milestone map for development, simply a list of features that indicates the game's direction, and always subject to change. Lastly consider spreading the dev blog duty around the studio to offer more insight to internal workings... one might reveal more about technical challenges of developing internal tools in Unity, another about VO production process, another about Animation process, etc. And don't be afraid to get a little technical in the dev blogs.
  13. Looking forward to it all. Will 4 Days of Night leave residual changes on saves... e.g. pumpkin head storm lantern? or will all event related items be removed once it's over?
  14. could just be bad luck. You don't have to do all the side stuff for Jeremiah, as long as you finished the bear hunt you are clear to go, aside for the wait. I think I waited 3 or 4 days. so a week is not too much of a stretch.
  15. Don't drop onto the rock here in the Ravine east end of the trestle. can't climb back up to the tracks, certain death, long or short.
  16. no "Grind" like every other survival game I've played or tried.
  17. first stalker run, 20 some odd days in. On the way to ML via Ravine. Enters from CH, decides to peek over the cliff on the left, just before the trestle. I like doing it becase I get more vertigo rush from this than VR games for whatever reason. Unbeknownst to me, there's a 1.5 foot drop in the terrain that's impossible to climb up once you go over. I'm stuck on the opposite side of the fence and no way back on track. I thought to meself, well... I might as well mountain goat down and see what's down there, then reload the last save if there's no way up... find out the hard way about "insta death" fall collision box about 5 feet below the road. "You have died of massive internal injuries from falling." Well dang, a jump button woulda been handy here. Welp, there she goes.
  18. don't try to outrun a bear no matter the head start. not even on stims. I could swear they teleport.
