    4DON speculation!

I am expecting Hinterland to prank us in some way. its called "trick or treat" for a reason.

    Day 1 (SPOILERS)

I decided on the Dam. Partly as its central (minor stashes left in nearby zones) plus close to the ravine for some hopefully wolf free lumberjacking (if necessary later to collect lots of wood before blizzard, bit redundant, i'm living in crate and pallet city) plus it was where I was when I needed to stash most of my gear for weight reasons. It also has a nice wolf free (under normal circumstances ) outdoor area with a nice sniping position on the rock ledge. One thing I never noticed before is how many light fittings there on the power lines above the ML train tracks for potential safe aurora movement - we'll see I guess. Although I have just realised getting through the dam on night 3 might be a bit difficult / impossible with all those damn fizzing wires everywhere.

    Day 1 (SPOILERS)

I have 2 Rifles, neither of those came from ML (found both jack-o-lanterns there) Which isnt to say it can't happen. PV was loot city as far as I'm concerned- plus there was 3 lanterns in PV for me. They must've had a massive sale on heavy coats and strangely enough - can openers. I swear I found more than a dozen can openers 3 from the one container.

    Day 1 (SPOILERS)

I'm going all in with all my eggs in one basket here as well. I guess this is the risk reward playoof between 'Loot All The Maps / armed to the teeth" and "I have a diversified portfolio for my retirement"

    Day 1 (SPOILERS)

I was wondering if they shift on a timer or something as I found on in an area I passed by and thought I would've surely seen it before. I have however passed by a previous found one and it was still there. If I was designing the 4DON challenge I'd force the players out by making them trick or treat certain dwellings. "No Candy? Well I'm going to wolf guts your front step then"

    Day 1 (SPOILERS)

I'm similarly equipped, 74 rounds, 2 rifles, 2 flare guns, but only 6 shells, 2 bows plus various arrows and arrow heads, ample and birch cured as well as guts and deer skins. I found more than 8 top tier coats so now they are stashed all over the place as they were way too heavy to try to lug back. I didn't get the moose cloak but got the satchel + rabbit skin gloves from various pumpkins. I'm in a GMT+8 timezone so the changeover lands during a work day tomorrow so won't have as much time to go crazy with it. I've enjoyed taking snapshots of all the lanterns i've found though (2CH, 3PV, 2ML) didn't get to Milton at all.

    Day 1 (SPOILERS)

hmmm.... now I found a second and third one in PV. I had thought there was only 2 in each zone. perhaps they move over time?

    Day 1 (SPOILERS)

This fool is about 5 times warmer than my deadman and 11 time more ridiculous looking

    Day 1 (SPOILERS)

my third one so far. I've also found so much top tier gear now. After playing interloper on most recently deadman the amount of loot is feeling off the charts.

    Day 1 (SPOILERS)

    another nice surprise

    Day 1 (SPOILERS)

found something fun. I also spawned in CH. Crumbling was blocked but mine to PV was open - but I didn't go all the way through as I'm still trying to find a rifle. very curious what happens when the time has finished counting down
  12. I started a 3rd attempt, spawned in broken railroad - big nope - hightailed it out of there through some very bear noised fog back to Spences in the Skeg. Escaped the next day freezing and exhausted with bears and wolves chasing me and was doing ok at 74% condition until I somehow stepped in my fire - the audio complaints (apart from when you do an useless treatment) seem be turned off so I didn't know for ages that i'd been burnt and had lost an extra 10% I'm pretty burnt up about it (pun intended). Currently in the camp office with only 3 matches left about 8L water and bunch of dodgy canned food. 62% 2 days survived (over real 4 days) - Drifter man I most definitely am not I swear he'd still be above 64% after a month and with a pocketful of stims.
  13. Agreed. I'm especially keen on anything that might minmise some of the cul-de-sac areas and join them back up to other places.
  14. Honestly I have wondered the same thing and I've never seen the numbers add up to what I think they should be. Is it a mechanic that doesn't affect the visual here but affects the outcome... i.e. what the temp direction bars actually do....hmmmm.... now that I say that I think that's not how its happening either as you'd see -1 feels like here and be getting upwards arrows on your temp gauge hud. Maybe its adding up front on the the air temp - i.e. it really should be -5 but you see -3. Either way its a good question I'd love to see someone in the know chime in here with confirmation of how it works / does it work at all.
  15. Did you have to actually eat the pie to repel wolves? I seem to remember having one in my pack but it doing nothing. Can't remember if I even got around to eating one at all. I think I was trying to save them up for the warming effect and real life stuff happened and I didn't come back to the game till after the event finished.
  16. Definitely touched the 2.5 carcass, then went and looted Hibernia and forged etc. Maybe 2-3 days later I came back. The TWM one I ran right by without touching and came back in less than 12 hours.
  17. Someone with more knowledge might chime in, but I think the wolves are bugging out in that scenario over not being able to path to you rather than the fire. As for the stumble, thinking back I mainlined a stim as soon as I could and sprinted to the cache.
  18. I recently came back from 0% and survived a wolf attack on interloper in the burnt out shack near the fixed prepper cache in Pleasant Valley. This is where I learnt that the stoves don't count as a scary fire as far as wolves are concerned. I seriously thought I was dead as it hit zero but the "you have faded into the Long Dark" msg never came up and I realised I must be just hovering above proper zero and it was rounding display issue. I quickly bandaged myself up and ran to the prepper cache, ate everything and slept. I've been a little too afraid to continue that run as it was my first decent interloper run so I've been up-skilling in new runs and playing deadman instead
  19. My Envy is palpable as you swan warmly through the area that spent two days in a row determined to (and eventually would) kill me. Not only that you got to harvest the deer that magically disappeared when I backtracked to get it. Maybe it teleported to your game.
  20. Nice. I might give some of these a try.
  21. The DP one was along the high path from the Mine to the church and was there on first entering the zone so wouldn't be convinced it was a wolf kill off screen before you get there. The second was was a fixed possible deer just after crossing the log bridge across echo ravine. I've had the deer carcass at the Dam magically pop in and out of existence at different points in an interloper run. i.e. harvest some meat go inside to stop freezing, come back out its gone, go do stuff, come back and its back again. At the time I thought this was just a bug with this particular deer and was no big deal cos it came back and I could continue harvesting... in Deadman mode though - ouch, its brutal missing out on those calories.
  22. I had terrible weather in my Deadman run too. survived 23 days and had 10 blizzards "survived" Its effectively what killed me. 3 days of mostly blizzard in Timberwolf Mountain locked in a cave staving to death with no sticks within freezing distance. Pleasant Valley and Rabbit Grove (CH) tried their best as well. watching your condition drop while trying to outsleep a blizzard one hour at a time is brutal. I saw some other peoples runs with quite tolerable weather. I also spent most of my run with gear under 10C. Eventually got up to around 11C - 12C depending on repairs but probably only after day 19. No outer shell found at all and no second underwear. Keep up the posts, enjoying them immensely.
  23. oh... and I had 2 deer carcasses disappear on me. I passed them and sought shelter thinking I'd leave them for later and when I came back they had gone. One was 2.5kg one in Desolation Point and the other was near cave on Timberwolf where I was blizzarded in starving. I was pretty devateated on both occasions. Do deer carcasses just disappear sometimes?
  24. Well my second attempt at Deadman has ended at 23 days 4 hours and 24 mins. My guy died at the top of the rope climb just after the Timberwolf mountain cave near the three way cave. He originally spawned in the middle of the dark in mystery lake near the clearcut and pretty much got barked at within a minute and I nearly threw the run away then but decided to try to outrun the wolf . My first attempt I lasted about 4 hours so I'm pretty happy with how I went. I got to the mountaineers hut on just on 17% condition and pretty much had 4 blizzards over the next 3 days. I was stuck in the cave eating all my cattails, tinned food and drinking all my coffee and tea for more than 24 hours as the weather made it very clear that it was very annoyed that I was there. Pretty much back to back blizzards with only a small break in the freezing part of the morning. In my 23 days there were 10 blizzards survived apparently. I made a bunch of mistakes. I managed to forge all the tools and 8 arrow heads at the Riken but I never managed to make a bow. I left the maple curing in the dam thinking that I would duck into pleasant valley chasing calories and better pants. and come back in 5 days time to grab it. Pleasant valley had other ideas and tried to freeze and starve my to death too. With the bow I may have had much better access to calories. Every stop on the way from the farmhouse to where I died I would stumble in with no food and only get to eat what I found or kill and eat some rabbits. I decided to try Timberwolf as it was the only direction I could go with food left as ML and CH I'd already tapped out of the easy places. I haven't really played a lot of interloper - several current runs and my longest lived is an ongoing run which has lived for 79 days. I think its interesting that as I'm not a veteran interloper player I wasnt really yet in the habit of starving my guy and driving his temp into the ground. I tended to try to keep my characters nice and warm and well fed previously so when it came to deadman and didn't have so many things to unlearn. I did watch a couple of deadman videos and read this thread and Drifter Mans run so was pretty much following all the advice I could find. I think playing deadman has taught me to be able to take a lot more risks and move quickly. I'd like to try one with a tiny bit of health regen. stumbling around for a while under 10% and not being able to get it back was tough.
  25. I'm guessing its under the ice somewhere in front of the Mountaineers hut. It would've smashed through and then frozen over.
