  1. I would click on him and see if you can get the ear, and or quit and reload the game. Best case scenario you get to do it over.... Worst case scenario the game saved when you killed him and it will be stuck as unfinished when you reload.... I don't know what to tell you lol, this is a new bug....you shot him at the exact wrong second it appears. I had a similar bug in the Sandbox when shooting a bear right by a door to a trailer in CH and running inside right when a mauling started.....
  2. You don't HAVE to forge those unless you broke all the regular knives and hatchets....the improvised ones actually are heavier, wear down faster with each use, and do less damage to wolves. The forge is more for arrowheads in all difficulty levels....but apparently in the story no one teaches Will about bows and arrows, so he has to carry the heavy ass rifle everywhere if he wants to carry a decent projectile weapon....other than the flare gun which can be hard to aim. The improvised tools are mostly for Interloper difficulty, as there are no knives and hatchets in Interloper....and no rifle. There is a forge in Forlorn Muskeg at the Spence Family Homestead....which is in the far southern middle of the map. The entrance to Mystery Lake would be East, Broken Railroad is West, the radio tower and waterfall cave are North, and the broken down barn with the forge is South. There is also a forge in the Riken, which is an old whaling ship stuck in the ice, in Desolation Point.....but you cannot get to that forge in the Story mode.....
  3. Raphael is the big cheese....the head honcho.....the boss man... I think the official title is Creative Director?
  4. Up to you, for some people after the aurora finally appears...when they get to the point where you are supposed to use the elevator, using the elevator instantly ends the aurora and then you can't use the elevator. It is unclear if it happens to everyone, everytime. So you could give it a go and see if you can finish the episode.... In the event it fails the way I just described above, let me know.....I'm curious...
  5. Beaver, and beaver dams on some of the many water ways would be a pretty big undertaking.....but I would still very much like to see beavers added to ML, FM, BR, PV, and maybe even TWM.... They are a very prominent "Canadian Trapper" species.... They would make some nice waterproof clothes too, if they fleshed out clothes crafting to include much more variety as to which hides can make what....and added hats and things too...
  6. It's cool, you guys deserve a rest/vacation. It's been a long, stressful, bumpy road to release it sounds like. I was just concerned about this last patch that is supposed to fix the remainder of Episode 2. I was afraid everyone was going to leave the office yesterday and lock up for a month and not release this last patch....lol!
  7. @Patrick Carlson you guys are still going to release a patch for the flare cache and the elevator being broken in the last quest in Episode 2 before everyone goes on vacation right? And what do we do if those things, or something else turns out to be broken? Play something else for a month and come back later?
  8. That quest has been pretty buggy as well....I believe they think they patched that one.... Whether you steal the ammo or not causes a response either way and a final note from the Forest Talkers or whatever. I don't know how long you have to wait for the response to occur. I'd check back at the cabin(s) closest to the mark on the map. Like they thank you for NOT stealing the ammo if you don't....and give you something else....I forget what, and a thank you note....
  9. My prior post may be incorrect based on the recent Dev Diary, the devs claim they want to add more stuff still, before the game is "finished."
  10. Well it's only got two proper structures, a hunter blind, about 15-20 cattails around the main lake, and like 3 caves.....one with a bear. The maintenance yard seems pretty big, but as far as searchable containers it's probably not a whole lot bigger than the gas station in CH. The hunters lodge does not equal all the other searchable buildings that are usually present in CH even with more than half of them burned down. As far as lootable locations and loot it's probably on par with FM, but with far less caves, coal, and edible plant life....in general. I mean it's got more lockers than Spence farm, but Spence and the rest of FM usually has some decent static loot even on Interloper. I haven't tried BR on Interloper yet tbh, but I don't think I would want to, lol.... Whole lot of wolves with even less stuff than FM....
  11. CSteamworks.dll caused an Access Violation (0xc0000005) in module CSteamworks.dll at 0023:640b20ee. Try rebooting your PC. Then re-open steam and make sure you are in Online mode and not Offline mode, and download any updates for Steam... Also verify the files for the game through Steam by right clicking on The Long Dark in Steam, then going to properties, and then going to the "local files" tab and selecting "verify integrity of game files."
  12. Wow....lol. That's a new one.... Don't read the thread then please.... I don't have an issue with it pausing while trying to add a journal entry. It's not like you can't ALREADY pause the game. When you hit "esc" to bring up the options menu the game pauses. Having the game NOT pause when trying to type in a journal entry, especially when using a controller with the stupid pick the letters with the thumb sticks is terrible. Every second counts in this game, and minutes go by in the game for our seconds in real life. I don't use the journal entries BECAUSE it doesn't pause the game....
  13. If you have never accidentally consumed your own urine, then you have never been drunk in the basement and too lazy to go upstairs to use the bathroom. You would think the beer bottle being warm and not cold would have alerted me to my mistake before putting the bottle to my lips and taking a swig.... Drunkenness causes delayed reaction time.... At least it was MY urine.... Now the time my DAD accidentally drank MY urine....that's a story for another day....
  14. Yeah....it's weird, I asked this general question literally hours before they posted the Dev Diary that answered my questions....
  15. My bad...it takes 2 fresh gut for 1 bar, my mistake. I just popped in the game to double check... The rest is true though about hiding the wavy lines and not telling us. Also, what @JAFO said is true about giving off smell even with no bars. I tested this with no meat, 2 pieces of cooked meat, and 5 pieces of cooked meat. It takes 6 pieces of cooked meat to make one scent bar to appear. With no meat I could sneak so close to a wolf I could almost smack it in the keester. With two pieces I could get pretty close....probaby about 15 feet away before he turned around because he smelled me....somehow he still couldn't see me because I started moving to the left while sneaking and he was still going to my last "smelled" position. Five pieces was almost as bad a 1 official scent bar. He turned around and started walking twords my position from pretty damned far away. I'm not really sure how to guesstimate distance with the weird warped Field of View, but the wolf was at least 50 feet away. Probably more.... So even though 5 pieces of cooked meat don't register an official scent bar, a wolf is still going to smell you from MUCH farther away than if you had one or two pieces....or no pieces. Since fresh gut is pretty smelly and it only takes 2 pieces of fresh gut to get one scent bar....one could speculate that one gut is equal to about three pieces of cooked meat. So I guess a wolf would start tracking your scent from about 30 feet away, even if you were crouching.....especially if the wind was blowing your smell twords him...
  16. I hope they at least keep the modding promise.... That way if they fail on delivering anything in the future due to lack of time or budgetary restrictions....at least someone else with the time and the inclination could add things to the game after the fact.....
  17. Well the cave is the End of Episode 1. There is still Episode 2. Make sure you hit "resume" and NOT "new" unless you wish to start Episode 2 without all your stuff from Episode 1....
  18. ROFL!!! Thanks for making ME laugh....!
  19. Trees are more of a @JAFO and @GELtaz thing.....they are Elvish.... I prefer rocks and cliffs because I have Dwarven blood in me....
  20. When exiting the gas station at night one is expected to crouch...actually crouch whenever leaving the gas station unless you like wolf struggles.... Does crouching not work on Aurora wolves...? Lastly always keep enough food on you for dinner before night time hits....
  21. Well @Patrick Carlsonand company may still be able to offer a fix if you sent him the stuff he asked for.... I don't know how the staff taking a month off will affect you getting assistance on this issue though.... I hope they release that last patch before going on vacation....
  22. One fresh gut definitely gives you one scent bar @Hotznmay not be aware that they hid scent bars for the more minimalist HUD, and you can only see if you have scent briefly by hitting the button to make the "time" appear (the sun and moon pictogram), or by going to your condition menu and looking there.... Your scent is no longer shown at the top of the screen at all times....you know because that was waaaaaay too much clutter on the screen the other way.... Also we never got a change log with Wintermute so how would anyone know they arbitrarily changed that when releasing Wintermute....
  23. That was one of the threads I read a couple days ago, but I didn't want to have to tell him to return a graphics card that seems to be able to run a bunch of games except The Long Dark....lol. I was wondering if turning off "tessellation" would help, but from what I just read the NVIDIA control panel doesn't have a setting for it, but AMD cards do....which is lame....
