  1. I liked the review. I like his personality as well, he gets very exaserbated over things like I do and gives a pretty honest review. Many of the points he brings up that he takes issue with, are pretty easy to fix and they probably could have been fixed by now if it wasn't for the "fanboys" as he puts it. Whenever someone tries to bring up a rational request like, "Can we make the minimalist UI and HUD a toggle in the options menu?" (You know so both groups of gamers are happy) To this day the responses are, "Oh you're STILL complaining about that? They changed it....move on." Ok, valid argument....they did change it, but maybe some people preferred it the other way...? Maybe those people would rather a minimalist UI toggle....? Did they totally delete the coding for the old UI? Couldn't they pull it out of storage and have both UIs as a choice in the options? The fanboys defend every and all changes so strongly and in such an argumentative fashion, it becomes clear over time to just drop it and give up. It gets to a point where they are only hearing comments they want to hear, and the points others bring up....which sometimes represent the people who are NOT buying the game, are just not being taken into consideration anymore. Yes, to the jumping thing and getting stuck on a 1 inch crack in the ground...they fix most of those as they find them....but man, can we just take a step up over 1 foot obstacles? Fine no jumping in the snow, but steping up and over low obstacles doesn't have to be jumping. Overall though, like everything in life, you either like it or you don't. I really like The Long Dark, and I'm glad I found it and I got to play it. I'm glad I found the forum and talked about issues and problems with the game with most of you guys (and girls), but it does have some issues. Some of them are going to be a turn off to some players. If the issues conflict with "the creative vision for the game" like not being able to craft a hat, I guess they just won't play this game. There are PLENTY of other games to play, lol. I have about 30 games I bought on Steam that I haven't even tried ONCE yet....lol.
  2. Did determining the flare cache bug was somehow linked to picking up the note for Allan's cache in the Carter Dam help solve this issue in anyway? @Raphael van Lierop If so, @Sirdoeboy01 was the guy who discovered that through play testing Episode 2. He seems to be particularly good at finding work arounds for bugs and weird glitches....like when you could get back into Milton after starting Episode 2. (Pretty sure he discovered that) He would make an excellent gameplay tester.....
  3. My mistake @Raphael van Lierop, I was under the impression he DID tag you because he used the little "@symbol and your name" and somehow made your name clickable, but it isn't red (like it normally is) and looks peculiar, so @MueckE must be "tagging" people incorrectly. I'm not sure how he's doing the thing that he is doing to make it almost appear like people are tagged, but whatever method he is using is not the correct way.....Obviously....or it would have worked....
  4. Lol, we were literally just discussing this in another thread, lol
  5. I have. That's mostly true. Many containers that are empty on the first pass are ALWAYS empty no matter what. Sometimes a few of them may have just been empty on the first pass, or the second, or third....but eventually if you are persistent some of them had things too. They were just empty at first. It's fairly rare though, and you have to be particularly persistent. I have reloaded many lootable buildings over ten times, some over twenty. I had a refrigerator in a coastal house in CH that was empty 90% of the time when reloading....but about every 10th reload it had a condensed milk and a soda. It wasn't worth it though, because of the other things that happened to be empty when that finally came around to having something in it....like the box of herbal tea in one cabinet and a can of coffee in another. What I have definitely noticed is oftentimes the first pass has the most full things all at the same time. Trying to get everything full again plus the additional things that are sometimes full is almost impossible, if not impossible. That's why I prefer to save games before even entering buildings now. Waiting until after you enter is very limiting. I saved outside the BR warehouse on that cot and went in there over 10 times trying to get a prybar to spawn in there. After about 10 times FINALLY one spawned on the floor of the truck with no doors. Luckily on that spawn almost every locker was also locked and had good stuff in it. I had to give up a heavy hammer in a red tool chest and a parka on a bench to get it though...but it was probably a good trade. I didn't have a prybar yet and a lot of those lockers are consistently locked....
  6. But it degrades really fast (along with peanut butter) which doesn't really make sense, but the longer you survive the greater the odds of milk and peanut butter you finding out in the open are ruined already. Which is super annoying in general..... So you are like, "YAY, Milk!!! Awwwwhhh not AGAIN!!!"
  7. Yes, hopefully it works on console too....or the PC players have a slight unfair advantage of being able to eat ruined cook-able food after getting cooking to lv5. Luckily I had only disappeared about three cans of zero condition condensed milk before someone mentioned this trick to me, lol. I wish I had just thrown them on the ground somewhere....but I hate clutter so I put them in a cabinet. (If you put something ruined with a red X through it inside any container it vanishes) I was still slightly aggravated about the milk though....lol.
  8. Yes, I understand that. When the food is ruined and has a big red X through it, there will be no "eat it X" because you can't eat ruined food. With a keyboard you get past this by hitting space bar. Since you don't have a space bar, I was informing you that the space bar ALSO opens the radial menu on PC. So I was telling you to try the radial button on your controller, which is left bumper on my PS4 controller on Steam. If that doesn't work, I guess you could try all the buttons....but you may just not be able to eat ruined food on console.
  9. X is the normal eat button I thought. The normal button doesn't work when it's ruined. You have to try a different button
  10. Not sure what to push on console....but space opens the radial normally on keyboard, so I guess try the left bumper?
  11. I guess.... You can cook ruined processed food too....if it is normally cook-able. The hard part is eating it. It won't let you eat it the normal way....there is no eat button. After cooking lv5 you can't get sick from rotten stuff you cook. So you drop it on the ground, then pick it up to inspect it, then hit the space bar and you eat it....unless they patched it and didn't tell me.... Just don't put ruined stuff in a container, it will disappear....
  12. Yeah, tbh I haven't been in the Sandbox much since the story came out. I've been waiting on this flare cache issue for about two weeks now in the Story though.... I started a Pilgrim run in BR to explore the new map, but got bored after a day....hence me not knowing any useful new info on wolves in the Sandbox. They run from you on Pilgrim no matter what.... Other than that I've been dealing with food poisoning IRL, and typing in the forums....
  13. The behavior I'm talking about is definitely a bug (or a poorly coded new wolf behavior) because I wasn't crouching and they were more than close enough that they should have been attacking me. They simply would start walking back to their starting positions after dropping the bait for them. I actually was bringing them bait because I WANTED them to eat it and wander off, lol. They refused. They were only interested in the bait when I was picking it up to reposition it, or when I put it back in my pack. When I left it on the ground they all turned around and went back to where they were. This seems to happen with packs of three wolves that the game seems to place in the Story where the devs are attempting to block an area off with added wolves. They added three wolves to block off the bridge out of Milton during the final few quests in Episode 1, like going to the colapsed tunnel, or the farm. Then on the first mission for Jerimiah to get him meds, I stopped at the Camp Office and there was a three pack of bugged wolves blocking entry to the lake. I didn't bring those wolves bait, but I verified that they would stop moving when hitting the edge of my field of vision. So I figured they were there so I wouldn't think to go that way.... Basically I don't know what's up with your flashlight wolf issue, but there are definitely several issues in general with some wolves' behavior in story mode....
  14. I've had bad luck with this method several times....it seems mostly bad involving locked lockers. On live playthroughs I've had every locked locker contain three interesting items a piece. Upon doing the reload trick, even after reloading up to 20 times, I have only been able to get up to half the locked lockers to contain three items, and then the other half remain empty. I've had the best luck saving before entering a big loot building (like the dam, or the CH gas station, etc), obviously you save when you enter, and then I save after looting everything the first time, before playing around with my saves. I save after looting everything the first time, because like I said if I just reload the last save after entering the building I seem to get far less loot the second (and third, fourth, fifth, sixth, and so on) time around. This seems to directly contradict someone who made another thread about more loot appearing out in the open when immediately reloading. I forget who started that other thread, but if it's you I suggest you collect more data about what's INSIDE the lootable containers (especially locked lockers) when searching live the first time. Losing three items per locked locker, for up to half the locked lockers present may be a poor trade off for a few additional odds and ends appearing out in the open. I'd start making some saves before going inside places with locked lockers. Playing with the save outside the building can also alter how many lockers are locked and how many are not....the more locked lockers the better.....generally.....
  15. I haven't gotten to play with the flashlight yet.... So other wolves when you do that they run away yelping after shining it on them for like two seconds? Currently there are other wolves in the game that are bugged in other ways like stopping walking when reaching the edge of your field of view, and only responding to bait when it is in your possession. When you put the bait down, they walk away from you instead of coming to eat it. If you pick it up again they start approaching you again. I haven't tested them in Sandbox lately. This was happening to me and others in the story mode. I'm wondering if those bugged wolves during the day turn into aurora wolves that don't respond to the flashlight properly at night....
  16. Thanks for finding that Steam discussion....it pretty plainly answers the question. Bunkers don't show up on the map even after discovering it, going inside it, and then coming out and looking at the hatch while mapping....it just won't map....
  17. I still don't get it, but when that happens I just say ok....lol...
  18. That's a really good question that I don't know the answer to....I am not a big mapper personally, and the bunker I did find I didn't try mapping it... So in the event you find a bunker before I go look for one and check myself, let us know what you find out.... Also I can't guarantee when I will be able to go look, I have a stomach bug and I have some RL chores to do despite being ill...
  19. @niklanidja don't forget to do what Patrick suggested when you get a chance....ultimately Hinterland may be the only ones who may be able to solve an issue with The Long Dark not running.... In the event it is software and not your hardware....
  20. Wow....NO matches in the lighthouse....I don't know the Interloper spawns there, but on Voyager I want to say there were matches near the stove, if not there....some on a window going up the stairs, and then more outside on the ground by the big light on top. Yeah, Hibernia had all the matches: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=888366399
  21. Lol, I didn't get it there, but that's what I pictured in my head after the constant bathroom visits began.... Tee-hee, that would be awesome!
  22. I see. I'd give anything for my dysentery to be over. It feels like eels covered in nails are swimming around my lower abdomen. Been like that since the Orange Beef I ate on Sunday night.....DAMN YOU CHINESE RESTAURANT!
  23. Apparently Enermax doesn't even produce it's own PSUs anymore....that's a shame. The last time I built a PC was about 2001, lol. In computer technology years that's forever ago.....
  24. Back when I built my PCs I think I went with Enermax....
