  1. If you go to the update section and read the comments for the hotfix that fixed the hotfix....it seems that THAT hotfix may also need a hotfix....and there has been no word on WTH that's coming to us...

Apparently I double posted because I wanted to ask WHEN that might be occurring and I got crapped on for complaining about the situation....

    War never changes....

  2. I don't like the arbitrary added numbers of designated cooking areas...

So you can now cook ONE thing on a forge or the fire barrel in Forlorn Muskeg, or TWO things with a campfire?

You should be able to place things closer together on the cooking surfaces to make better use of the hot surface, instead of sticking ONE thing in it's designated circle...

Or maybe as your cooking/fire skill goes up you can apply up to six hot stones around your fire instead of just two?

As your cooking skill goes up do things take less time to cook?

    I don't know....I'm a Taurus, I'm stubborn, and I don't like change.

I would rather this cooking was a paid update I didn't buy, or I could turn this off and revert it to the old way or something.....

I don't play this to play a short order cook mini-game...they have plenty of those for my phone already if I want to play them....

  3. Kerbal Space Program is another example of a buggy(ier?) game released by a small(er?) Indy development team.

Their one saving grace though, is the ability to roll back their game version to multiple different stable releases via the Steam beta tab, and they don't force manadatory updating in order to launch their game via their .exe file.

Is it possible for this game to adopt a similar functionality?

This will give the devs time to hotfix and patch thier game until they get it right, while the rest of us have the option to play something "hopefully" stable and functional.....

I know GoG players get to not update the game if they don't wish to, and I understand PS4 and XBOX players might be SOL like I seem to be with the Steam version currently....but I feel like I'm being punished because I bought the game on Steam....

  4. I thought the sign was a picture of the sign for the "new" tower....

So the old missing tower has it's own sign too?

I don't remember the "new" tower's sign being very colorful.

I remember it being some gray sad looking thing....

I never saw the old tower's sign, because I believe I went up that mountain not from the beginning of the path. I went from one mountain to the other rather directly and dangerously....lol....

The intended paths in this game are windy and long....they waste calories and time.

I risk my ankles doing things improperly....

  5. I don't even play Interloper, but I have enough sense to say....so this idea really sucks on an Interloper start with only forged tools....

So you if start here you basically should just find a way out as soon as possible, because you won't be able to properly explore some of the map anyway.....

Once you do get all the way to a map where you CAN forge an axe, would you even bother going back to HRV to explore?

Probably not, the map is a death trap really....

Interloper is hard enough without trying to live on a map that only has caves and snow shelters....for shelters

I mean I'm sure it can be done.....but why?! Lol!

The whole map is like a big @GELtaz survival scenario....

Like the time he lived in just Forlorn Muskeg for no reason....lol....

    Yep I found it :)

I couldn't remember everything....it's been a while. I didn't even know there was anything up there at all for the longest time...

I started playing just after they tore down the old tower and built the new one. I always assumed the new tower must have been where the old one was....

I assumed they revised it or something...

I didn't realize the "new" tower.....the only tower I ever visited, was on a completely different mountain top, and that there was anything else to see.

I didn't know there was a second mountain to get to the top of....

I mean I guess they aern't really mountains per se.....pretty big hills....

Same I was tricked too as I was like I have seen the other watchtower what is still standing and i was like i dont remember this being here

At least you probably found a dead guy, a bit of wood, a bit of food, and a really big box with potentially cool stuff in it as a consolation prize!

I've seen it before.  I think it was left all colorful to trick newcomers into thinking there was a tower they could seek shelter in.  ¬¬

  9. I'm here to vote as pro-modding!

I like the game, but I want to play it the way I want to play it....

The way I want to play it is I hoard everything not nailed down and take it with me....like I do in every other game I play....

I can't do that in this game, so it makes me upset. It drives me crazy. I quit playing because of it.

I don't care that it's not realistic, I don't care that it defeats the purpose of it being a survival game, I don't care if it makes it "too easy," or breaks immersion....or whatever the 80 other reasons are that I am not supposed to hoard everything I see....

    Hoarding makes me happy.

    I'm a hoarder.

I'm not going to change because you tell me to, or you don't like it, or it's not how you like to play.

It's how I like to play.

I should be allowed my own happiness in life, just like you should be allowed yours.

That should be the end of the discussion/argument.

Ideally I shouldn't even need a damn mod to do so. It COULD just be added to the custom game settings, but everyone has made it abundantly clear that's not happening....so modding is my only chance at happiness in life, or with playing this game....

    Which I feel is unfortunate....

By 41 though, I grasp the notion that life sucks and then you die, so I do my best to accept that fact everyday!

I was wondering if this is new or if I was just being blind and didn't see it before

    I want to say it's "new-ish."

I believe there was some type of sign there, but I don't remember it being that bright and colorful...

  11. The title pretty much says it all. I think the new scrub brush blocking your path idea is a pretty cool/interesting addition, and yes I am aware in some instances you can try to climb the walls to get up and over it....

But for Interloper starts in Hushed River Valley, with no axe, and no way to forge an axe....at least not anywhere even remotely near by (maybe you could put a forge in the Farm House in Milton), it would be nice if the scrub brushes could be set ablaze.

Not with just matches or a magnifying glass or anything silly, but with a flare or a torch from a fire.....something that should be hot enough and burn long enough to probably set a bush on fire.....

    I don't think that's unreasonable....

I have noticed that beachcombing has really taken a dive from where it was at a year ago.  I'm approaching Day 800 and I've found maybe ten things washed up, this whole time.  Most of it not worth the sprint out to grab it.

I'm kinda wondering if it's spawning below the terrain or something.  I mean I remember beachcombing used to be something I could look forward to.  Get out there once every couple weeks, haul back a bunch of junk and a couple rare items.  Now it's just....stick...dead fish....cat tail head...

    That sucks....so they nerfed it?

I started playing the game pretty late, read about beach combing and was like....oh that sounds cool....

But all I ever seem to find is dead fish, and new stuff does not seem to show up very regularly....or at all...

  13. @Patrick Carlson

So are moose going to remain as the only animal in game that does not bleed to death?

If so what is the dev logic behind this choice?

Regardless of their logic, then unlike the animals that DO bleed, do moose have a fixed hit point pool.... and do weapons do a certain amount of hit point damage to this pool?

It seems very unfair if moose don't bleed and moose ALSO don't have hit points, and weapons ALSO don't do a certain amount of damage to them that adds up until they die.

The mechanics of other animals in the game don't need hit points and weapons don't do a certain amount of damage because the other animals  DO eventually bleed to death....or are supposed to at least. So if you land a definite shot and then are patient and wait, then you eventually get a definite kill. (With the exception of bugged bears that are supposed to bleed but don't because of some bug that may never be fixed apparently)

I am hoping the moose not bleeding is an oversight and a bug, but if it is indeed intentional then I hope you at least give them hit points and make all weapons then cause an appropriate amount of damage based on the weapon (Bow, rifle, flare gun) that will kill them when you score enough hits to particular locations on the moose....

So it isn't JUST the lucky critical head shot game..... that's a BS way to go about adding moose....

What I absolutely love most of the recent changes is the custom difficulty setting because it allows me to change many things of the long dark towards the game that I prefer to play. It's like modding light.

I for example like to put item decay to low, because what always destroyed immersion most for me is the thought that I needed to avoid touching stuff when scavenging because my anti midas touch would turn everything into garbage over time and good play according to game mechanics turned into a spreadsheet game where you needed to remember where you left things for use later on. Pilgrim's low decay with other difficulty settings high? Just great!

I also change the wolf behavior a little because the way they are implemented was too much of a zombie survival game for my taste, I prefer less frequent attacks but extremely harsh fights when they do.

And I disable auroras because they are just the ultimate zombie game addition. They are beautiful though, I wished we could have an option to enable these without the green zombie wolves and without the electricity reconnect, which both also destroy immersion for me.

Next please: A real modding API!

I agree with your comments and suggestions....

I especially love your Aurora setting idea:

    Aurora Frequency settings.....as is.

    Aurora effects on wildlife:   on/off

    Great Idea!

Basically allow occasional beautiful auroras and their electronic effects, without crazy mutant wolf and bear (and moose?) attacks....

I was aware of the recent change to make worn clothes lighter than those in inventory, but was not aware of the wet/frozen clothes weighing more already.

    They do....

I found this out the hard way when I filled a car trunk up with clothes outside the CH gas station in the game six months ago when I was playing....

I went back after a couple days to get the stuff and the weight limit for the trunk was in red, because the clothes had become wet and frozen and then weighed more than the trunk could normally hold....

Needless to say it then took me two or three trips to get everything out of the trunk.....

  16. So about four months ago I got sick of waiting for the flare cache bug in the story mode to be fixed, and I just quit playing and dropped off the face of the earth.....

I just got done reading the 10 or so change logs that I mssed and I almost blacked out due to sheer joy....

    Specifically:

    They added moose!

I can craft a moose bag accessory item that lets me carry FIVE WHOLE EXTRA KILOS?!

    Worn clothing weighs 25% less?!

THANK YOU SWEET BABY JESUS !!!! Now I can carry more stuff! I'm sooooo happy!

Also, it sounds like disappearing stuff dropped in certain buildings (like the farmhouse inPV) may have finally stopped disappearing! That's great!

Are there customizable difficulty settings too?!

I'm still holding my breath for more clothing item crafting in general....like options for crafting most clothing slot items out of several or even ALL the different animals.....instead of just one animal for specific slots....but it's a start!

Maybe someday cured hides will finally weigh less than fresh wet hides too! That would rule, and make sense! Then ctafted clothes could weigh less too!

I am almost motivated to play again! Even if it's just to see how much gear I can carry now.....

And I made it a week and a half!  Still waiting.. Getting annoyed with all the PC/PS4 people being like, "yay its fixed!!!" <death glare>
So, Mr Thrasador.. what is this 'Subnautica' you speak of?

@JAFO recommended it to me, it's on Steam.

Honestly after playing Subnautica now for about 100 hours, I'm not in love with it.

It's interesting. There is much to explore and craft. It's also a "survival game." It can be pretty fun sometimes, at least in the beginning when it's all new and exciting. After playing for a while you need to start exploring deeper and more dangerous biomes in the ocean. That could be fun too, except for one major issue I have with the game....no real weapons....

Eventually you start facing off against really giant "leviathan" class creatures....several different species of them, and you have a knife....a friggin knife. Needless to say if you try to kill one with a knife, it takes like 30 real life minutes and about 100 knife swipes. You will most likely be eaten before you succeed, so it's really just a huge headache.

You aern't really "supposed" to kill anything. The devs went all pacifist after the Sandy Hook shootings apparently. So they refuse to add lethal weapons to Subnautica. So you are really just supposed to run away and try to avoid hostile predators. That's the part I simply don't enjoy. I don't run, I fight....it's in my nature. I don't enjoy games where you don't at least have a fighting chance. In Subnautica you don't.....

So yeah, old thread, but I'm just now following a link to it. Laughed my ass off.

As for the idea that perhaps it should be reported:  When TWM was first added, I stated spending lots of time there. Came home almost every day with two sprained wrists and two sprained ankles.  Now, I put up with it for a while, but when it started happening on level ground, right outside the hut, or walking across the lake to the fishing hut, it got me slightly aggravated.  I'm sure none of you would think this of me, but when i get aggravated, I tend to bitch about it a bit. I know... I keep it hidden well, but it's true.   The response at the time?   "Working as intended"

I bet NOBODY saw that coming.

I remember this period, and I too recall complaining about it, and I also remember the responses from fanboys about how it isn't that bad, and it's fine, and nothing is broken....

Yet, I don't seem to be having this issue as frequently or to the degree it was when I had originally brought it up....

Guess it magically just fixed itself in a stealth patch....
