  1. Ever wonder what is up with the high beam setting on the flashlight. This flashlight that can cook an egg could answer the question. Too bad we cannot light fires with our flashlight.
  2. Back protection is such a wonderful strategy. I can tell you from experience having me bear behind is the best way.
  3. Posted in the share your screen shots.
  4. This interloper did not stay warm because I was not expecting to see bear at the door step.
  5. I might have worked out a method for interlopers. The use of rocks, fishing hut, warm up teas should allow an interloper to accomplish this task safely while staying warm.
  6. Yes I noticed that update. Shared a screenshot of a goat victory over that scrub.
  7. Might be Mad as a Hatter your capitalization is perfect. Just be careful and do chase any Rabbit down any hole.
  8. The bear in Bleak Inlet can be held in place or frozen mid stride. There is a section of ice that is at a higher elevation. Stepping here will prevent the bear from moving. Head on view. Side view of ramping ice patch. Higher elevation is on the left. Bear is walking towards the player. Bear is immobilized when on this ice ramp. A video could make this easier to spot.
  9. Well that was a fun experiment. A voyager went to the crumbled lighthouse to meet the bear. Traveled across the ice under the bridge towards the cannery. A dense fog appeared making it difficult to see. Only used a single stone to keep bear's attention. The bear was still in tow when arrived at the cannery docks. The howl of timberwolves confirmed that they received their invitations. The party was about to begin. The wolves were enraged when they spotted me. Their morale was high. I retreated back to the fence. The pack is on my trail and now I was in between like a piece of meat in a sandwich these predators would chew. Once the bear started to charge the wolves morale was broken and they scattered. Turned around and headed towards the wolves. All of us were running now. Only I had a destination. The trailer. Looks like another fellow tried this method. Sadly he failed. Kept bear around until I made it to the upper levels. I left a bear behind climbing up that rope.
  10. That's the idea. Battery is heavy so it is not as convenient as the magnifier but is located in several locations. Aurora is the only time there is charge so it usable time is opposite from the magnifier. Battery being a lead acid type does not work in the cold the electrolyte will freeze. The frozen carcass mechanic can be utilized to thaw first before use. This will give lopers a reason to bring Battery out of the cold and for the others to not just boil melt their bones.
  11. This idea needs to be tested. Bring a bear to the cannery and see if the morale of the timberwolves can be broken. The first test should have no contact with the wolves. The expected result is that they all clear off. No morale to be broken. The second test is to engage the wolves have the morale meter. Then introduce them to mister bear. The expected result is that they all clear off and morale is reduced to zero.
  12. Really I did not notice. All I did was travel from Mystery Lake to Raven Falls Ravine then down the rope and off to check my secret goat path that leads down for Orcas down in Bleak inlet. Maybe it was the sprain coming down from Overlook (took care of it with a bandage but no pain killers) and it lingered until I fell and received the four sprains.
  13. This could be a preview of an upcoming change in wolf behaviour. The episode three has a wolf enter a barn. The wolf's dead body can be seen on the inside at what looks like a chewed off portion of the barn door. Locations that offer safe refuge might be on the decline. The Spence farm might have to be cleared of wolves before any serious forge work can be done. To clear wolves it might take a "break their moral" session or do it the more hands on approach. Either way if you want to work in peace you need those wolves gone.
  14. Perfectly reasonable explanation. The bedroom has no such holes in the roof.
  15. The cavern stumble I have done before. The Raven Falls trestle I have never attempted. The trestle with both edges open is going to be tricky. Then of course there is the one rail part that is going to be near impossible. Also the starting location is going to make more frustration. Probably starting at the one rail section would make this easier. I have been thinking on how to start out the challenge. Step 1 - Get to the location Step 2 - Get some sprains Step C - Jump in a fire The last step will reduce health and create a save point. Remember not to have anymore condition loss while attempting the challenge.
  16. When I get burned for stepping on a wire during an aurora this makes me think why can I not ignite a torch using these same burning sparks. This idea was used by a loud pete so he deserves some credit too. edit: Battery could be a source of these sparks too. Boy!
  17. The stumbling when below five percent health is loads of fun when on Pilgrim but so frustrating when on harder difficulties. Make a challenge that uses this Stumble mechanic. Here is where I got the idea. The cavern near the engine in Timber Wolf Mountain with its narrow pathway down. Stumble Bum Challenge #1 Timber Wolf Mountain Cavern Reach the bottom of the pathway on five percent health with four sprains in the fastest time. Pilgrim difficulty but the other difficulties can be used. Must stay on ramp path and not fall off the edge. Only one torch can be used.
  18. Yeah this pilgrim survived. Temperature inside the Bedroom. Temperature inside the entrance room. Honey! Where's my pants? Was just doing some testing and then deciding to jump off a cliff in Bleak was loads of fun. That stumbling when below five percent is hilarious fun when on pilgrim and is so frustrating as hell on harder difficulty.
  19. There is a two degree Celsius temperature difference at the cabin in Bleak inlet. This cabin is near the waterfalls. I am going to check the other cabins for this change in temperature while in different locations. The temperature indicator is what I noticed. The bedroom is two degree Celsius warmer than the entrance. A while ago I noticed this change in interior temperature standing near the windows at the Hunter's Lodge.
  20. Frickin pencils! That was an awesome episode. This does shake a lot and he was talking about adding a counter weight. How about a 15 kg counter weight. 🤔 edit: Have you subscribed to the Slingshot channel? If not you should. Hah. Hah. Hah.
  21. Ahh the moose just wanted to boop the hooman. Wonder how long he waited. Also the truck is where us Long Dark Player would end up.
  22. These wolves do not behave as wild wolves would. The keep a small territory and patrol back and forth. I might have come up with a theory as to the reason. Patrols are used to guard a certain territory. So the idea is what are these wolves protecting the territory from, maybe a greater menace. Already there is an Old bear that hunts the player. We are challenged with hunting it down. Wolves are attempting to keep dangerous animals at bay. Consider if the game is changed that allows a dangerous animal to arrive when a wolf pack or bear or moose have been removed. The area does not become safer in fact it becomes more threatening. As the local protector population is reduced this causes an increase in the chance to spawn a deadly pack of timberwolves or the Old Bear or Carzed moose. These dangers are unstoppable and hunt the player. Of course the flare pistol would scare them for a short time. The player must leave the region with haste. In order to escape a buffer of a couple of regions would be needed between the player and the beast. Only the regions that have local protectors offers a buffer zone. The peaceful Raven Ravine offers no such protection. So be careful what you hunt; the hunter could become the hunted. Anyone else have any ideas other than cougars why these wolves are on such a strict patrol. Edit: Found this video on typical wolf behaviour.
