  1. The Waheela This comes from the Legends of the Nahanni Valley. The timber wolf's bigger cousin a Waheela or dire wolf. The beast in the woods at the one minute mark is a hulk. The Mackenzie River Valley Wolf. http://www.cosmosmith.com/mackenzie_valley_wolves.asp
  2. The world has changed. But there's a chance for one last journey before the cold sets in. Walk the path, visit the graves, and make things right before the end. The time noon. The region Bleak Outlet. The location Broken Lighthouse. The opening to the As The Dead Sleep challenge. The goal is visit five graves in five different regions. Broken Railroad at the Maintenance Yard, Hushed River Valley at the Many Falls Vista, Raven Falls Ravine at the bottom, Desolation Point near the Riken, Timberwolf Mountain at Crystal Lake. The grave sites can be visited in any order and the quotes will always be in this certain order. Grave #1 I found the water like I promised. Where the rivers meet the sea. A bitter and empty place. You were right. Grave #2 We were all so cold. More than we could take. No escape from it. Please forgive me. Grave #3 I left you behind. My guts freezing, my feet on fire. Each step a hundred years. It was too far, too far. Grave #4 Why couldn't you hold out? Why couldn't I let go? Are you at rest? Is there sky above you where you are? Grave #5 The world falling away. Did you know already, somehow? Before you left us? The lights, they just go on. Who is interested in attempting to decipher this information? I will try to get the ball rolling. I found the water like I promised. Where the rivers meet the sea. A bitter and empty place. You were right. We are starting the challenge at the broken lighthouse and looking at the Great Bear map Bleak Inlet fits the description. The rivers meet the sea is the delta. Found the water is linked to the graffiti in the cannery. What it means i just do not know. I do know that water is always free. MAR translates to english as sea. Anyone want to contribute to this lore puzzle?
  3. Clairvoyance Can you figure out how I did this? You might want to figure out the location first.
  4. If Hinterland Studios were similar to others in their industry it would be a micro transaction. Seriously though do not put a sticker onto your screen for aiming assistance in The Long Dark.
  5. So the click to enter is a life saver. Whether we are being chased out of the cold or from a wild beast this click to enter a cavern is used to assist. This option seems out of place since it is not similar to the action of opening a door to a house or vehicle. What I am saying is there is no downturn to using this option and it is just another layer of cheese. Do not get me wrong I do not blame anyone for using this option, it's a time saver. Wintermute spoiler
  6. To improve the immersion let the wolves have better eyesight. Already the stones give us an option to distract these beast. How, on a frozen lake, can you hide from a wolf? Even if we were to lay prone that wolf would still notice a change in the scenery. Are we jedi? This is not the meat popsicle you are looking for. In order to hide from a wolf or any thing else the need for cover should be mandatory. Here is some cartoon context. Oh Magoo!
  7. The many region transitions all have something in common, the ability to skip the exit by clicking. How many of us do this? Trying to shave of a few less points when freezing to death and at less than 5 percent. The lure to enter a warm cavern pulls many. Battery jumped into my inventory and since I have not used this click to exit feature anymore. Just continue walking until the scene changes. By just walking through the transition I have found another detail. Cavern entrances can have coal and if done correctly these can be picked up. This is the Milton to HRV transition and this time the coal was spawned just a little too far back to grab.
  8. Goats are happy because near to the fire there is an -beam to play on.
  9. Be careful on the deck of the Riken. Sometimes a corpse spawns there and for me reminds me not to stand too close to that side. Mister Bear and i had an appointment recently and I was on deck. After sticking an arrow in him he got really mad. The bear tried to skirt up the side of the boat. In a thread of mine I discussed how a player can goat style up the side of the Riken and climb towards the harpoon. The bear was climbing exactly the same way and cautiously I took a few steps back and prepared to jump ship. This is serious advice.
  10. During the warmer days ice thaws and the area of weak ice grows. During cold snaps ice freezes and the area of weak ice shrinks. This would force the player to change path or hope for cold weather. Beach combing would be affected and again cold days are the safest time to avoid going through the ice. If a carcass is on this dynamic weak ice area during a warm spell then consider that it will go through and be lost. Dynamic weak ice based on temperature could be everywhere there is flowing water and make caution priority when travelling on theses frozen pathways.
  11. The hidden switch is right behind you in this image. Maybe. The odd thing is that the control cabinet is not solid. The "154" fix would seem to be alright. The way I look at it is this fix is on the "quick and dirty" side of auto body repair. Imagine a majestic style auto body supreme paint job but it has this tiny piece of foam bondo instead of metal. Sure it all looks good but do you really want spray foam with bondo veneer or a solid piece of metal welded. Changing the 3D model would of course be the harder path but in the end a masterpiece is being constructed and is worth the effort. @jeffpeng Mister Moose goes to the cannery will be another fine melody. Soon.
  12. Running shoes offer zero percent protection from water. Try this again with footwear that offers water protection.
  13. What is the source of the image? So similar to the image from the dev diary.
  14. Only Rumors Caution Attention Some might say I been drinking way too much Battery Acid but there is death lurking below waiting to break a Hole in the Ice. This was an image that announced episode three. If these beast do appear in The Long Dark how are we to cope? Certainly walking around the coastline is going to be exciting. The idea of beach combing might be terrifying. Would we need to somehow put up an offense to this threat to humanity. Any body else have that feeling of foreboding. Discuss this idea here. P.S. I am terrible with acronyms. P.P.S. Could someone try and paint my vision of these beast lurking below the ice along the coast. Of course the time will be during an aurora so their glowing eyes make the scene extremely frightening.
  15. Firstly the Harpoon with +1 fire damage needs to be dismantled moved to BI and repaired using the Milling Machine.
  16. Has anyone else noticed that the movement rate seems faster on a flat paved road compared to flat snow. Noticed this in Pleasant Valley. It needs testing. A stretch of flat paved road with similar terrain covered in snow. Maybe a custom game that has its weather tuned and a warming tea to gauge the time. Road then snow then ice should be the order for quickest movement. The test will be posted later.
  17. Steam offers a cloud save. Cannot remember if it is on by default. This could help out in the future.
  18. Had a similar issue out on the ice. The problem is the same the bear stops moving and its animation frozen. Going to post this video in the technical discussion.
  19. Another player has captured how the bear animation freeze. Out on the ice the bear animation can be stopped and started.
  20. Yes the scrub brush can be passed through. Issue is if I reveal how it is done then it is likely that "seismic activity" will change the landscape.
  21. That graffiti is a bang up job. Only thing is I recently sent an invitation to Mister Moose and the message might need to be updated.
  22. Inspecting these antennae closer I am suspecting this is for gathering electrical energy. Consider this video from Mr. Carlson's Lab where a snow fall event created electrical discharge arcs within radio equipment:
  23. The idea of bringing Mr. Moose over to the cannery did occur to me as it took a long time to walk Mr. Bear. The only issue is Mr. Moose does not just slowly follow as does Mr/ Bear. Instead it will likely charge once it spots the player. There is a possibility to use stones to scare herd him over to the cannery.
