  1. The Lucky Horseshoe. Ever wonder why a horseshoe is consider good luck? The reason goes back some time during a dark period in history. The black plague was relentless. Many did not survive. Transmitted from rats to humans caused the plague to spread. Oddly the livery stable hands lived. The horse was infected by the rat which then passed it to the stable hand. A form of inoculation. The people working around horses were the lucky ones that survived. Passing down their family heirloom from their ancestor is the lucky horseshoe. This story was just a story. A little distraction if you prefer.

  4. This is the pain I am sharing. Nature (Hinterland Developers) alters the landscape is known. The odd thing is when the original path was altered another path opened up along with the shortcut to the rope. The path to Secluded Shelf is now quicker. Also the path from Secluded Shelf to Summit is much easier; there was a section that required some luck. So I can only conclude that goats are being encouraged in the Long Dark. This has been on my mind for some time and have asked other forum members. The response was for me to share the path. Maybe a more direct question to the deity in charge could garner an insightful response. The sans rope anniversary is approaching. The votes and discourse here might sway my mind. See you on the slopes. @micah6vs8 expect your lichen wrapped invitation to the Long Dark Rocky Mountain Goat Spring Thaw Social.
  5. I have never considered looking at this goat ability from this perspective. Well done.
  6. Let me know if anyone wants an autoload adapter. I know a guy who can get you a good deal. 😉
  7. I am not Jörg and have no contract. Just amazed this guy has not shot his eye out.
  8. There was a time long ago when a path to the top of Timberwolf mountain's summit was available without using any ropes. The achievement was documented and posted on the popular internet video platform/publisher of the time. The Long Dark Rocky Mountain Goat was jubilant. Now the ground shakes and tremors earthquakes are reshaping the lands. The previous trail has been destroyed. The LDRMG was perplexed. Why would nature oppose goats? Being a part of the Long Dark for some time I have learned Nature does not care about anything one way or the other. Setting out with this in mind I explored the mountain once again. This was exciting. Another challenge for the goat. At first I explored around the original path and was unsuccessful. Took me several attempts before I decided to move on and try to look for alternatives. Looking all over the map for the new path and it was getting to the point of giving up. Then I came across just the right area. Which lead me close to the original path. There was a trick needed and voila the path opened to Secluded Shelf. Reaching this point only spurred me on to look harder for the path to the summit. The original summit path was broken and so I tried going the opposite direction and found a path that lead to the top ledge at the rope climb. Finding this did not satisfy my goat for salt. Even though this route is quick a goat does not like to use ropes. Took me a few more hours but the path to the summit was eventually trodden upon. All your rope are belong to us.
  9. Tinder comes in different forms. Birch bark is the most useful tinder even after the fire starting buff at level three. As for the cat tail, that fluff could be useful for maybe bedding or stuffing. The paper products offer nothing more than paper mache or maybe composte for growing mushrooms. Cardboard boxes should be able to be stuffed inside a fire barrel or stove.
  10. There was a time when Birch Bark was added as tinder and it had some use but most of us would be using cat tails. This made Birch Bark mostly useless. Only purpose I could figure was how often it would troll me in thinking bark was a stick. Then Birch Bark tea became a reality in the Long Dark and now there is no reason not to pick it up, unless you are deadman. The Scrub Brush was added and it too was exciting at first to discover a new fuel. Over time though these Scrub Brush have become less desirable. Not entirely useless but somewhat. Would be neat if these could be lit on fire. Battery is an example of how something in the Long Dark that had no purpose whatsoever for a long time. Now Battery become a top five collectors item. Interlopers have not yet appreciated the purposefulness of Battery, other than for some companionship. Climbing Rope is for goats. To eat for breakfast. These have less purpose now as almost every region can be accessed without a rope. Mount Timberwolf summit is accessible to goats. Only the ravines need rope. The solitary Rosehip in a trash can. Only find eight on a bush and need twenty four to make tea. The challenge is to find the other seven otherwise it is useless. All the cardboard boxes and newspaper seem to have little use. If you have a delivery route these paper products can be useful. For emergency tinder not very useful especially if there are cattails around. The time it takes to break sown. Plus the extra weight compared to cattails add up to the paper products having little value as tinder. Good thing the books can be burnt as fuel. Do these or will these items serve another purpose?
  11. Been working on the jeep. Replaced the power steering pulley and serpentine belt. Go and crank the engine, the belt falls off and the radiator fan's blades are hitting the harmonic balancer aka crankcase pulley. So I have to negotiate the pulley back in place. Just trying to start this used jeeep to see what else is wrong is becoming taxing. The more I work on the jeep the more I have a fondness to go play in the mud. Love the Sherp. Be the Sherp. When I was young I fell into a mud hole up to my armpits. Mom freaked when I got home. Took off all the muddy clothes right at the door.

  13. Certainly entertaining the idea since I bought the bow. I always wanted a bow since eleven years old. Even asked Santa. My mom said to me "You'll shoot your eye out".
  14. Bought a Bear Compound Bow Found this in our local thrift store. It has the Bear logo and seems to my research it could be a Whitetail but not sure. Length is 50 inches Can anyone identify it?
  15. Looking for a reliable vehicle that is easy to fix. There were many different types of vehicles that made the list. Bought a 94 ZJ and after watching some offroading videos I am starting to realize that my choice was decent. These vehicles are great offroad and I was just looking for a daily driver. Now I am considering bringing mine over to the pits and climb around with my mechanical Goat.
  16. 🤔 Hmm machined aluminum. Probably used a Milling Machine 🧰 Forged over five nights with the strongest aurora borealis and quenched with Timberwolf blood. 🐺

    Fire Roll

In the comments someone recalled a time they saw this fire roll done with pocket lint. Are you implying that the 20 degrees Celsius outdoor temperature during Canadian summer time is the reason for ignition.

  22. The world can be upside down sometimes. You win a cookie! This check is useful for lopers that want to break crates to get items they need. This technique might work in other locations. Heading over to the Maintenance Yard to check. A Different load out has the matches accelerant and rope metal in other locations. edit: So here are the clairvoyance results from the Maintenance Yard. There are two different interloper starts. The sewing kit. The whet stone. And the most significant.
