General feedback for devs

First off I struggled with the demo on Xbox one, I had to download it four times under four different accounts before I could get it to work but I finally did. It looked interesting so I thought I would give it a shot and noticed it was half the price on steam as opposed to Xbox one.  I thought $20 was a bit steep for a game that still apparently had so many bugs so I emailed the company and asked if there was any future plans for an Xbox discount and the company responded that there was no discount for Xbox in the future so I just bit the bullet and purchased it, two weeks later it was discounted on Xbox one.  I laughed but honestly it put a sour taste in mouth towords the credibility of the company.  After about a month of playing here is my feed back.

The game itself is very creative, looks decent, and Controls behave decently as well.  Overall it's a pretty decent unique  game I just have one problem really.  It gets boring very fast.  After just a few hours of play it just becomes the same boring set of mechanics.   I keep longing for just a bit more depth.  I get everything I need done for survival accomplished and then have to stop playing because there is nothing constructive left to so I end up sleeping, ALOT!  Even if you could just sit in a chair by the fire for the simple plaeasure and morale of it anything other than being forced to just stand in a room and look at the wall.  Or if there was some sense of purpose, building or rebuilding or anything!    Like I said the game is well done but it loses interest quick it needs more sustainability or some end game goal to work towards.  Even in a survival environment the goal would be to move on beyond basic daily survival into long term sustainability and rebuilding a life and a future.  On a personal side note, I think it's hysterical how quickly your character is starving and needs food.  In real life I have gone weeks in desperate situations without food here it takes hours before the effects of malnutrition are killing your character a bit unrealistic but perhaps adds to the gameplay

Are you playing in Voyageur or Stalker mode? These are tougher.

As you work your way through the various regions, you should find plenty to explore and lots of challenges.

The game may automatically grant you fewer resources on successive lives; often surviving without a knife or without a hatchet can be very difficult. Lack of a ranged weapon can also be very difficult.

During the Alpha development, things may be too easy for a while until some new hazardous feature such as bad weather is added. The weather was mellowed out somewhat and now perhaps things are easier again.

Try a fresh new game on Timber Wolf Mountain if you still lack a challenge; are you getting hints from other playthroughs on Youtube and reading all the hints on this forum? It shouldn't be too difficult to survive once you master some tricks and techniques.

Hang in there! Things are bound to get worse!! o.O

Hey there,

Sorry to hear the XBox sale left you with a sour taste. Any sales you see on XBox are actually set by Microsoft directly, not by the studio. That being said, we feel (and hope you come to agree) that $20 is a fair price for unlimited sandbox access, all updates, and all episodes from the first season of Story Mode. All of this is included in your Game Preview purchase.

As for a sense of purpose, the game is still in development and there will certainly be more to see. NPC interactions will be introduced, and we've been discussing meaningful goals and challenges for long-term playthroughs. For now, you'll have a good chance to get a handle on the mechanics, explore the various regions (all of which are interconnected), and put your skills to the test. If you're interested, there are quite a few player-created challenges here in the forums, all of which come with some great tips and interaction from other community members. I'd be happy to link a few here if you'd like.

Thanks for picking up the game on XBox, and welcome to the forums. We're happy to have you join us!

I think the price is exceedingly fair given the amount of enjoyable playability offered!

I'm fairly new to the game but still have racked up nigh 150 hrs played and whilst the minutes per dollar ratio is not a good metric you'd pay just as much if not more for episodic titles on the market.  One title I recently purchased offered 4 hours of play (Firewatch) and whilst I very much enjoyed it at the same price point as TLD there really was nothing to tempt you back for any more than the original experience bar different dialogue.

My only regret was not discovering the game earlier and becoming part of the community witnessing it evolve to what it is now and will be in the future.

I'm still amazed by the fact that sandbox development will continue after release, I mean it's not like their revenue stream is a subscription based model or based on micro transactions which necessitate a constant development cycle.

As Steve P said, maybe up the difficulty, in basic tourist mode the hardest part of the game is remembering where you store everything, once you have less resources and need to worry about wolf attacks it is much more challenging.

All of this development is leading towards Episode 1. Depending on the success of the game, future episodes are planned, and they will be a separate payment. The expansion of mechanics to support those episodes will likely repeat the model used to date - Sandbox for testing/feedback, until it's time to work on the story content and release.

So perhaps you'll get a chance to witness the game continue to evolve beyond where it is now! :)
