The Long Dark Could Have An Alternate Female Storyline

This could bring all sorts of interesting gameplay and moral questions into the game. I keep thinking back on the book One Second After, where female characters are having to deal with pregnancy, rape, prostitution, providing for family, and taking on roles typically reserved more for men.

The Long Dark Brings Canada To Videogames

"I'd like to think that if [The Long Dark] is successful, we can inspire other developers to approach their projects from more of a thematic, emotional place, versus thinking about them like a product. Games are made by people, not robots. If you don't feel the presence of the creator in the work, you are missing something really profound from the experience."

Interview: Raphael Van Lierop on Creativity, Artistic Direction,

and Voice-Acting in The Long Dark

"I think the biggest challenge has been — and will continue to be — reigning in the tendency to design systems down to the very smallest detail, to try to strengthen the simulation. For example, the design spec for the Firestarting system is over 10 pages long."

A very nice (and detailed) recap of each stage of TLD throughout the Kickstarter campaign, including the challenges, competitive projects for funding at the same time, and the decisions taking place throughout the campaign. It's an excellent read, and those of us who found ourselves glued to watching every climbing pledge will really be able to relate to each detailed stage of the campaign.

The Long Dark Game Preview

Так что теперь нам остается только дожидаться последнего квартала 2014-го, когда этот, без сомнения, необычный проект можно будет «пощупать». Если авторам удастся выполнить хотя бы половину обещанного, результат получится по меньшей мере весьма оригинальным.

@Dalec @BillTarling Pancakes laced with inordinate amounts of caffeine keep us going. They also double as pillows -- sweet, delicious pillows.
