Desert survival

Hey, I know the game is called "the long dark" which wouldn't really fit with a desert environment but it would be really interesting to have a few desert levels with the same mechanics going on... for instance water would much more of a limiting factor and not overheating and food would spoil very fast.

Hmmmm....why??? ;)

I mean...we're in Canada...how would something like this fit in the game???

We don't have Seasons...so how would all the snow 'vanish'?

What you're asking for is imho allready in the 'green eqivalent' of TLD...

How about a ice-desert, a huge icy flat landscape with a couple of shipwrecks and maybe a research station or something... To make the whole thing a interesting travel have random spots on the ice which may appear darker where you cant walk and have a high risk of breaking in the ice.

Hey well I didnt really see this game as a Canada game. More of a survival game. So a desert survival would be a good change of pace, probably harder!

Certainly if you're thinking of a second game using the same mechanics but based on a radically different environment then its a +1 from me.

Might be difficult to translate much of the "support features" of the game convincingly though. Deserts are even less occupied than cold regions. The assumption we have in the current game that, even though there are no seasons in game currently, there is a season without snow and ice where the region becomes populated.

The other drawback is any lack of land features. Unless you choose one of a few deserts then most are just seas of sand blasted to bedrock. No mountains etc.

So perhaps a desert survival version but set somewhere like the edge of the Mojave desert? The terrain is more varied and its not a desert like the Sahara for example.

Oh...and you'd still have predator animals.
