akaMichaelP Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 This is the message I have been getting on Steam. Recently purchased it.Using Ubuntu 14.04.3 LTS as OS, Steam was installed.Looks like there is nothing there to download for Linux. Is there a Linux version?
Addle Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 Yes, though it's a test version, currently. You need to follow these instructions:http://steamcommunity.com/games/305620/ ... 0765059879
akaMichaelP Posted November 10, 2015 Author Posted November 10, 2015 Oh, ok, But I do not see that option, is this one of those must have Windows edition to use for the Test Linux edition?
akaMichaelP Posted November 10, 2015 Author Posted November 10, 2015 Never mind, realized that this was bait and switch ploy. Please remove my account from this forum. You have lost a Customer.
bethany Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 Not sure what you mean by not seeing the option? Which option exactly? As evidenced by the other players successfully running the game on multiple Linux platforms, there is definitely no "bait and switch ploy" happening here, and we'd be happy to help you figure this out. We will be making the Linux test build live very soon (as opposed to a "test build"). Once this happens, these steps will not need to be taken to opt in to the Linux build.
Addle Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 Indeed, I don't even *have* Windows and I've put in 29 hours on this game. I purchased it on Linux, followed the instructions, and played. They're a nice company who made a fun game, have the decency to port it to Linux for us, and are working hard to fix the remaining bugs in the test version. There is absolutely no dishonesty here, on their part. And they are quite willing to help you with any issues you have.
akaMichaelP Posted November 10, 2015 Author Posted November 10, 2015 Please just remove my account, I have had a bad experience with trying to get this game to work for me.When I went under the Beta tab it did not give the option to select anything. I am glad others are enjoying it under Linux but I have a had a bad experience which has frustrated me and I give up trying to get it to work.Respect my wishes and Thank you.
Hinterland Raphael van Lierop Posted November 10, 2015 Hinterland Posted November 10, 2015 User error?
akaMichaelP Posted November 10, 2015 Author Posted November 10, 2015 Yep, total User Error, bought a non-existent game on Steam. And, no option to select Test whatever ...So, please, respect my wishes and remove this account and forget about it.
Addle Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 Because you literally didn't read or follow the instructions I posted. From that link:To download when not in Big Picture Mode: 1. Start Steam and log in 2. You should see "The Long Dark" in your Library 3. Select it, right-click, and select Properties 4. Click on the BETAS tab 5. Enter access code first: QjDcT5s3JXw8hcUL 6. Select 'test_linux' from the beta pulldown choices I would draw your attention to step 5. You clearly didn't paste that access code. If you had, the 'test_linux' option would have appeared for you. It's ok to make a mistake, but please don't take it out on the devs who were kind enough to port it for us.
renand_otero Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 That's worked very fine on ubuntu and steam os, thanks.
Addle Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 Quite welcome. I should note that those steps are no longer necessary, as it's been released normally now.
akaMichaelP Posted November 11, 2015 Author Posted November 11, 2015 User error?A mixture of user errors Sir and too many solutions at once on me.I apologize if I came across the wrong way toward you. I was a bit frustrated at the moment.

BTW, I figured out the problem after I stepped away from it. Let us leave it at that, OK?
