I propose a new item you can craft: an Arm Guard.

Purpose: reduce damage from wolf attacks by 25-50% (random per attack)

Cost to build: 1 gut, 2 reclaimed wood (or maybe one cured leather, 1 reclaimed wood and 1 gut?)

Time to build: 2 hours

Tools: None (or maybe sewing kit if leather is used)

Weight: 1.5 kg

I think this would be a good idea because if you're having a terrible time finding weapons then having an arm guard makes it slightly harder for the wolves to kill you if you're defending yourself with just your bare hands. It's also easy to make for low level players. The trade off it weighs a lot so once you have a knife or hatchet you likely won't need/want to use it anymore. It should also rapidly decay during an attack so you can use it at most 2-3 times.

The intention is to help starting players survive wolf attacks.

Yeah i think this is a good idea, however i dont think it should require a workbench as its for people who dont have a weapon early on, i also think having to use gut is not helpful early on, so why not just use a newsprint roll or 2 and a scarf to strap it on.

Perhaps a cloth then as opposed to a gut? You're right that it's something that should be craft-able outside of the workbench but I don't think the game supports that. Well, aside from harvesting cloth for bandages.

Needing the forge though defeats the purpose alunasmoon. So far, the only forge is on the Desolation Point and new characters (which this item is aimed at) will not have immediate access to forges. Plus coal is a lot harder to find than scrap wood and something to wrap it together.

you know... i would not trust any kind of armor i could put together to protect against a wolf. Dogs have on average of bit strength of 250 pounds, their wild cousins? The Average is around 400 pounds, a large wolf that is trying to protect itself it can go higher. Further Wolves do not fight like dogs. Dogs typically go for the head and the neck. Wolves will body block attacks and snap and tear at the extremities and anything it can get its teeth around

Just a side note to those who feel unprotected without a knife:

a torch provides perfect protection from all animals and can be crafted almost immediately, requiring only 4-5 sticks and a match or three depending on luck.

+1 to arm guard

I like the idea of crafting an arm guard out of wood and cloth. A little bit of an edge in a wolf fight is certainly welcome. Also, I'd also like it if it could be upgraded later on using deer hide for additional protection.

Fully agree! But (there's always a but) I have had it occur where I've frightened off a wolf with a torch, seen it run to the edge of mystery lake, bounce off one of the cliffs, run back at me, pass me and then become aggressive again. Unfortunately, by this point my torch ran out :D

Also, this is not intended as an "immunity to wolves item". It is just meant to make the wolf attacks slightly less punishing for unarmed players. It won't help you beat a wolf; it just buys you time to click faster :)
