wow searching this site found no real feedback on the new DP map.

Does anyone like DP Map? find it useful? any comments / feedback? post em.

I have been to the new DP map, loved the new terrain / buildings etc. Good to go to if you want to craft special tools maybe? the point of this map from what I can tell the furnace to craft special tools. the hacksaw and hammer? or something. there seems to be plenty of bunnies around for food and the odd deer if your lucky. even found a green sapling. only one, though :(

I'm pretty sure people have been giving feedback on the map but I've been holding off until I thoroughly explored and made use of everything on the map and tried it on a couple different runs. So here goes...

Pros:

  • It's small and compact, but dense in terms of places of interest. This makes it fairly easy to split resources between places if you want to make it home and loot everything quickly if you don't want to stay.
  • I like that it includes all unique buildings/locations and multiple secret/tucked away areas.
  • I love the lighthouse.
  • I love Sadie's cave. I tend to like the really big caves on other maps so getting one you can explore further was a lot of fun.
  • The stone church reminds me of my great-grandfather's rural stone church, so brownie points there.
  • I like the industrial feel they were going for and it's noticeably different from the remote small-town/vacation spot vibe like the other 3 maps.
  • I like that some loot is hidden or locked behind other things so you won't necessarily get to them right away (e.g., a backpack and loose rifle rounds found behind a stack of crates that you would need to break down first)
  • The introduction of the forge in context with the Riken is really, really cool. A heavy, rusty forge on a heavy, rusted ship was a brilliant choice.
  • I really enjoyed the first half of the transition zone, how it felt more "open," the cave, and providing wish fulfillment on finally accessing a basement

Cons:

  • I believe it's the only map without a place to fish? Admittedly I don't fish that much but it could have been neat to have a small fishing boat stuck out in the ice where you could sit and fish similar to a fishing hut.
  • I wish the first floor of the lighthouse wasn't so dark all the time (even during daylight or with a fire going) so I could better admire how awesome it looks!
  • Given how much stuff is stuffed into the zone, I could have done with a little more wilderness, either expanding a bit more on the ice or allowing a few more climbable hills along the churchside of the road - but this is really more of a personal preference.

Overall:

I think my use of this map might change a little with the addition of a second forge, additional forge uses, and/or another transition zone connecting DP to another map. As much as I love everything in it, it still ultimately feels like a map I visit for the short-term and not really a map I use for a long-term home base. But that's OK - I'm surviving and scavenging what I can so not every place I find will be an ideal place to call home.

I have not played enough recently to say a lot about it.

What I have seen so far I liked a lot. The stone church has a nice vibe, when you are sleeping inside beside the fire barrel, barely protected by wind, with a wolf walking around it. Also the lighthouse is made really neat. The map generally has a lot to offer, but on a smaller overall surface area than the other maps. I have not seen caves there yet, but there are these mine shafts that you can use to sleep in. Since there is a lot of points you can stay over night, and the overall map size is smaller than the other maps, there is probably less danger of dying of cold than in other maps. It does have plenty of wolves thou.
