Boston123 Posted September 30, 2015 Posted September 30, 2015 Seriously? The .303 cartridge has been used to kill basically every large game animal that lives, up to and including elephants, often with a single, well-placed shot.Yet, somehow, and for some reason, black bears in TLD are made out of Titanium, and require at least two headshots to drop.Point Desolation: I shot one of the bears ( I am not sure if there is more than one, if so, whatever. If not, and there is only one, then this bear survived a day + of blood loss) in the body, behind the front leg-shoulder (at and angle, so as to hit the lungs and such). He ran off. I went to sleep in the lighthouse, and the next day, I went to go look for him. Found him ambling around near the broken bridge. Shot him in the head from 20 yards away, and the ******* CHARGED me! I panic-shot him in the head at point blank range, and needed to "repair my pants".The difficulty of using the in-game rifle should be due to the scarcity of bullets, not because shooting something with it is akin to insulting its mother: just going to tick it off.
whisperwind777 Posted September 30, 2015 Posted September 30, 2015 Bleeding bear won't survive more than 12 hours. It must be another bear.
selfless Posted September 30, 2015 Posted September 30, 2015 Bleeding bear survives exactly 4 hours.Unless it stops bleeding.Or isn't a bear.
Survive757 Posted October 1, 2015 Posted October 1, 2015 I shot a bear twice in the side of the head and two in the stomach and shoulder area, not only did it survive but ran off and I followed the blood trail until it disappeared? look I know bears are tough, but a 303 with one well placed shot should be able to take it down.
houservt Posted October 1, 2015 Posted October 1, 2015 I've had some really odd run-ins with bears lately. Twice now I've unloaded 3+ shots into them (6 shots one time) and they didn't flinch. Didn't run off, didn't attack, no blood trail, nothing. After the 6 shot one, I switched to a bow and shot an arrow, but missed, and as soon as I did that he ran off. I keep meaning to video it, but the one time I remembered to turn the screen capture on, the bear reacted to the shots. Nevertheless, I'll see if it happens more. I know I suck at aiming, but it seemed really weird.
Rusty_Old_F250 Posted October 1, 2015 Posted October 1, 2015 It is possible to drop the bear with one shot, but you have to land it right between the eyes. Personally, I feel that even though a .303 would drop a black bear pretty easily, it makes the game much more difficult if it doesn't. I don't want this game turning into a turkey shoot. Now if our bears are actually grizzlys... They can take some hits and they will get to you and they will mess you up bad. Sam
thinair Posted October 1, 2015 Posted October 1, 2015 Nothing much changed though.... in more closed area shot the bear from where it cant reach you... literally shoot in the head... it might be insta kill, if not let it run like crazy till it bleeds out. But it has to be more of a closed area, because bear runs for a while. Yall can try to keep up with it, but its basically impossible. If it stops running, make it run again with flare or something. It has to be running, then it bleeds out.DP is good for this, went near bears cave, went up on cliff, shot it and it started running.... to his cave, and to mine and back and forth few times, then ran around on the frozen lake between its cave and hibernia, then started doing long runs up to riken and back to his cave, and finally bled out near its cave. all was done with one bullet, its just takes time... i guess around 3-5 minutes of gameplay.

Samthey should simply include a head shot instantly kills a bear, a shot from the side of the skull should easily kill a bear.
