Boss Llama Posted September 28, 2015 Posted September 28, 2015 This occurred to me twice today - the first time I figured maybe I had made a mistake while checking my position, but the second time I was quite careful, and it occurred again. The summary is that I was outside at night (in Pleasant Valley near Three Strikes Farmstead) and it was sufficiently cold that one would freeze without a campfire. No problem. I set my campfire to spend the night, and on two occasions, wolves were drawn to me. When they came up and paused near the fire, I shot them, and then harvested the carcasses. In both cases:- I was at full/max warmth when I started harvesting- Both the carcass and myself were within the warming range of the fire. - The fires had sufficient fuel to burn all the way through processing the carcass, and did so without issue. In both cases, however, I froze to the point of taking damage while doing the harvest. The moment the harvest finished, I began warming back up. I was using the hunting knife for maximum speed, and the "feels like" temperature in each case was 15-20 degrees. In neither case did I note a weather change, or anything of that nature. As far as I can tell, it is an error that is occurring, causing the game to ignore the air temperature resulting from the fire while in the process of harvesting an animal carcass. If there's any other useful information I can provide, please let me know!
Guest Support Posted September 29, 2015 Posted September 29, 2015 May not be a bug, but rather current design which is still being adjusted."within the warming range of the fire" (unless the wolf is dead right beside where you build the fire) does not necessarily mean the temperature will be sufficient to maintain heat [the temperatures aren't instant, so they will rise and cool as the surrounding air temperature also changes] - and when a few feet away, the warmth bonus drops rapidly. Most often it's hard to gauge the surrounding air temperature drops during time shifting (since winds also affect the fire and localized temperature). It sounds more like a balancing issue (which again they're still working on, and actually have recently been discussing in detail amongst the team).
Boss Llama Posted September 29, 2015 Author Posted September 29, 2015 Thanks for the reply :-)I realize it is hard to gauge air temperature change during accelerated time, though I would be surprised (maybe I'm just ignorant?) that it could fluctuate that severely down and back up in that short a time period twice in the same night without any audible or visual change in wind or snow conditions. The other kicker is that in both cases I began warming up again the exact moment I finished harvesting, and not a moment before (which would be a 15-20 degree jump in an instant). The wolf was dead within steps of the fire - I waited until they came fully up in to the illuminated circle (closest approach I'm aware they make) before shooting, and I remained within it myself, but as you say - hard to know! For what it's worth, I did take a screenshot of my tab screen the moment I stood up from the second wolf harvest and realized it had happened again. Hopefully it's useful for either troubleshooting or just future balancing. Image is attached. Thanks again for the reply!
