More Food Options!

While there's a lot of food already, I think if you were able to make your own food it would be even better!

Ex: Finding food-building basics like flour and sugar and using them to make more complex things like bread. Use the mushrooms and rabbit to make stew.

Also, if you were to add more pre-made food options. Once you find everything, it gets a little bit boring. :?

I for one would like many more food items so that cooking can become more complex, ie a crafting system of its very own. Collect ingredients to cook recipes and make better/more calorie-dense food. Introduce a heavy iron skillet as a new tool, and the possibilities are vast! Recipes ranging from very simple like pancakes/flapjacks (Box of Pancake Mix + Water) all the way up to a hearty meat stew. Natural edible plants could be harvested and used for things, but some things are super rare and can only be found in houses, like onions and potatoes, etc.

Also I want to see more 'questionable' food items in the same vein as the can of dog food. Like a bottle of maple syrup since we're in Canada. Plenty of sticky-sweet calories if you drink it, but drinking it is kind of ew.

I don't think I'd like a very in-depth cooking/food crafting system but being able to cook a very basic stew, roast, bean soup, or something like that would make sense to me. Finding some potatoes, carrots, rice, beans - stuff that might legitimately keep for awhile and can be thrown together in a single pot for an extra filling meal. Might take longer to cook but if made, has more benefit than eating the individual components? I don't know. Once your past the very basic needs of survival, I can picture someone putting a little more time into making meals a little more enjoyable but I don't know if baking bread or getting fancy with spices would really fit with the core goal of the game.

I could stand with a little variety in some of the current in-game food items. There are 3 types of sodas but only 1 type of canned soup. I'd kill for a chicken noodle or something instead of that yucky tomato! :) Possibly some different types of canned fruit too? IF the above cooking were put in, I could also imagine finding some of the ingredients as canned items or even potentially found in a freezer.

one of the biggest things they could add is flour, there are several very simple breads that can be made in the absence of commodities such as butter, milk and leavening agents. But one other thing about cooking that might be useful would be to leave the stove and be able to do other stuff. A good stew isn't made in an hour, its something you let cook slowly over the course of the day.

Hmm, i kind of like the idea that cooking makes food more lightweight (because less water) then it would be reasonable to punish overweight even more... This would probably affect fresh meat the most.

Oh no... The next request will be to add a book of gordon ramsey. You fall in the long dark kitchen.

Gordon Ramsey in The Long Dark...

There are already pots and pans sitting on stoves, let's put them in good use. Not Ramsay-crazy, but something basic, one step further from just heating up stuff. There are already one food component that you HAVE to cook (meat), but I wish there are few other ingredients that would not be dangerous per se,have very little food value on their own without preparing (flour, salt, rice, maybe potatoes etc), but mixing them with water, beans, meat, mushroom, whatever and cooking them together- you could make a soup or a stew.

Pros - it would be nice nutritious dish in good amount with one cooking, it would last 2-3 days for sure, more in questionable state (risk for food poisoning)

Cons - cooking would be time consuming; you can't use campfire, it has to be a stove; you wouldn't be able to transport it, it has to stay indoors...

Maybe even a new skill, cooking? At first, with low skill, you would have a great risk to ruin the dish completely or the nutrititional value of the dish would not be that high...

I know I'm just daydreaming here, but I feel there is someting in this idea. Something that would keep you attached to the game for extended time. Just eating 2-3 kg of plain meat every day is little weird and doesn't make too much sense, I feel we need additional options to enrich our diet :)
