This may seem like splitting hairs but....

Kudos to the Hinterland Team. I absolutely love this game and I'm fortunate in that I have just arrived to The Long Dark, so many of the updates have already occurred. I feel like I'm playing a Beta build as opposed to an Alpha. That said, I would love to see a colored cursor (pale red or pale blue maybe) for XBOX one. It may seem insignificant but it can get a little frustrating when hypothermia has set in and your at 20% health, full panic, trying to put your tiny white cursor on a stick that's surrounded by white snow and the death clock is counting down (something I experience much of the time). Even a very pale colored cursor would help and I don't think it would really affect game immersion. Just a thought. :)

+1 sort of. I'm on PC and just find it a bit annoying to have to "hunt" with the mouse until the dot appears - sticks, arrows, dropped flares. Maybe make some of these smaller items have a bigger "dot activation" radius?

+1, that's even better, you look in the general direction and it highlights objects in range

I'm pretty sure the reason for having to be on top of the item is so you actually have to find it instead of just clicking randomly on the screen and picking up all the hidden things. But, whetever...

Understood, but in current case, you've already found it, already over the top of it, and still have to stand there moving and guessing to get the dot to appear. Common use case for me is when using a flare. You toss it at a wolf, it runs, then you go to pick it up and stand there stupidly trying to pick it up for a bit.

Yeah i can see why you guys get annoyed with this, at first this really bugged me. But now i kinda like it, i think it adds to the immersion if the game, youre dude would be panicked and fumbling around .
