Can't harvest deer after shooting it- XBOX One

Made an awesome long shot on a fleeing deer with one bullet in my inventory (It was my first time hunting, I was so stoked ) but when I got to the deer I couldn't harvest it with my hunting knife??? :cry: Has anyone else had this problem or is it something I'm doing wrong? Thanks for your reply.

The tool should be automatically selected if you actually have it in your inventory -- I believe you can scroll through available tools with RB in the harvest menu.

I don't mean to ask the obvious question, but are you certain you had the knife in your pack? If so, could you please take a screenshot of what you're seeing in your harvest menu and share it with us? If you're unfamiliar with taking/sharing screenshots on XBox One, you can find a guide here:

Thanks Bethany, It's happened a couple of times and I'm pretty sure I had the knife on my person both times. I'll try again and take a screen shot if necessary. I stopped playing for a while because I found I could only survive for a week or so without being able to harvest animals.
