SteveP Posted September 26, 2015 Posted September 26, 2015 My character burned to death on a campfire; I'll try to get the coordinates since they are no longer easy to get but will have to find the spot. I put the fire to the North of me in the hollow where the deer and the rabbits frequently run to the North of the lighthouse. I turned South, away from the fire and tried to move towards some carcasses in that direction. I found myself stuck in the fire and quickly burnt to death without even being given time to get out of the fire. I've had fire accidents in the past where I made a mistake such as running up to a fire too rapidly or getting too close. This didn't seem right. Maybe I screwed up but it didn't seem that way. Also this was on Pilgrim so is that intended behaviour? Singed boots I could live with; instant death seems extreme and in this case, unwarranted. Ok, yeah it bugs me.
SteveP Posted September 26, 2015 Author Posted September 26, 2015 This location is an ideal spot for rabbit snares. There is wind protection on two sides and trees and wood for fires. Rabbits seem to really like to travel along the wind sheltered edge of the rocks here and I've had rabbits go right into traps just set moments ago. It's good to have a spot to set the snares and build fires; just let's be sure it's not a fire trap!
Boss Llama Posted September 26, 2015 Posted September 26, 2015 Just the other day I was lighting a campfire in a protected spot and actually was placed in it by the game - that is to say, the animation from standing up after lighting it actually left me in the fire, and I lost a good chunk of health before control was returned to me. I get that one doesn't want to stand in fires, but I think perhaps the desire to avoid limiting players and to have consequences for actions took over here at cost of allowing some incredibly silly things happen. A person with a campfire can very readily judge its position and avoid burning themselves, which is tough to do on screen. Also, a person being burned at the stake wouldn't die as fast as we do on inadvertent contact with our tiny little survival fires!
nicko Posted September 26, 2015 Posted September 26, 2015 Place the fire a decent position from you so it wont burn you.Surely you get a warning then walk/move off the fire? If not you will burn to death. evolution I say.
SteveP Posted September 26, 2015 Author Posted September 26, 2015 In such circumstances, you have to place the fire in the spot where it is green. There is not much room here sheltered from the wind. Here is an image of the spot with two dips left and right where snares are placed, out of the wind. The fire was on the side of a slight ridge. I was fine until I turned to the right. That placed me in the fire.
Sporkel Posted October 2, 2015 Posted October 2, 2015 Something similar just happened to me, though it was in a cave in Pleasant Valley.I had just build a fire. There were no warnings that I was standing too near; I hadn't moved and at first I didn't lose any health or anything. But when I clicked on the fire to cook some meat, I apparently burned to death with no chance of getting out of the fire since the cooking was already in process. I doubt this is meant to happen.

canislupis Posted October 21, 2015 Posted October 21, 2015 I am not bumping up my post, rather reopening the post.As nothing has been done regarding this issue.I died again do to this bug.I was on day 53 in the coastal highway this time.I started a fire then all of a sudden I was put into the fire and couldn't move and died.I am sorry but your game is broken.I have died four times with this bug in a 2 month span. I have let you know each time. I do not have the effort nor frustration level to deal with playing and spending many hours and then just hoping that the lottery of instant fire death (starting a new fire ends my game) doesn't happen to me.This is not a isolated issue.I have read the threads this is a issue many people have. There are 3 possibilities for you to regain my trust in your product.First off I would like a e-mail correspondence addressing this issue. After that :1. Restore my game 2. Remove death by fire ( or roll 10-50% damage of current health but not death)3. Release story mode.Once one of these things is done I will play again, but as it stands I am done. I love your game, but you guys have killed that fun with the annoyance of something that should not happen.
Guest Support Posted October 21, 2015 Posted October 21, 2015 I am not bumping up my post, rather reopening the post.As nothing has been done regarding this issue. The bug is still being worked on as they are making multiple adjustments to the fire system.Thank You
