Crafting in the wilderness

I would like to see some craft-able items without needing a workbench. Perhaps the items wouldn't be as high-quality as workbench items, but it would allow more exploration without having to return to a "home base". Or maybe there's a new mode called Nomad Mode where there are very few buildings/huts on the map and players must rely more on hunting/gathering/looting corpses. Anyway, here are some of my ideas:

  1. Crude knife: Shale rocks (x2) + RNG
Find two shale rocks and smash them together for a chance to chip off sharp edges. It can be used for harvesting animals and clothing, but would take longer than a hunting knife. It can also be used for self-defense. Fragile and breaks after a few uses.
  2. Rope: Cloth/Animal hide + knife
    Used to craft other items!
  3. Throwing spear: Cured sapling + Crude knife + rope
Maims, but slow to kill. Very small chance to insta-kill. You will have to chase after your prey until it bleeds out. Tip must be replaced after a few uses. Don't even think about using against bears! Harvesting will yield a cured sapling and crude knife.
  4. Poison: Dried poisonous mushrooms + Water
Use poison-tipped spears so that you don't have to chase your prey too far. Poison must be reapplied after each use.
  5. Improvised snare: Fresh sapling + rope
Used to catch small game. Harvesting will yield a fresh sapling.
  6. Shelter: Cedar/fir limbs + rope + cured animal hides
Windproof, but does not provide much warmth. Harvesting will yield fewer cured hides.
  7. Rack: Cured saplings + rope
Throw on hides & guts for faster curing. Throw on strips of meat to make jerky, but risk attracting bears/wolves.
  8. Containers: Birch bark/cured animal hide/cloth + knife + rope
Weave together material to make a durable container. String it up on a tree branch when storing food. Bark and hide containers are more durable, but cloth containers are more visible from a distance.

Poisoning the meat you're about to eat is a bad move.

You can make REALLY strong rope from cedar fibers, maybe there's something to that for the game?

Good point danicusrex. Maybe then the trade-off for using poison is that it leaves the meat inedible.

Yeah :D i really think a Nomad mode would be awesome/ or even just adding more of the basic crafting and stone tools etc into the game as is, would really open up peoples ability fir radically different playstyles. Which inevitably just leads to more replayability.

I also really like the idea of a craftable tent , have seen other suggestions for a tent and camp stove etc but i think a craftable version of both is probably the best way to immplement them as i would take long time to gather the supplies and build, which will ensure they are only really available at much later stages of your playthrough, which prolongs people getting bored/starting a new run due to it becoming repetitive.
