mjv96 Posted September 24, 2015 Posted September 24, 2015 Pretty much what the title says, a drag sled to help those of us who love to carry stuff, carry more stuff. It's a VERY basic design, to long poles (thin slender trees with the branches cut off), tied together at one end. We could use bear, wolf, and deer skins to make a basic carrying area, heck, we could even use the copious amounts of crates in this game on it. Just google native american drag sled to see what I'm talking about or take a trip to http://www.native-languages.org/travois.htm. Thoughts?
sierra 117 Posted September 24, 2015 Posted September 24, 2015 I totally agree , personally im not one for travelling with too much gear when when im exploring/looting a map. And i think this would enable people to loot ,too much too soon ,makin it too easy, however for much later stages of the game when you want to move your base/home to the next map this would come in handy. Ive had to do this doing 6+ journeys to and from. And it can get a bit tedious , so i think this is a good idea but not sure how they would implement it, but yeah i think they need to give us more to craft later on in the game. Like say once youve maxed ou crafting skill, unlock upgraded versions of say deer skin boots, wolf pelt jacket, etc you could line them with extra fur or cloth, and maybe things like snow boots you strap onto ure existing boots, all u need is sticks, and cured gut.If they add more things like this for later stage of survival, it will lead people to wnt to keep playing past 100 days etc, rather than just starting a new game as it becomes too repetitive.
mjv96 Posted September 24, 2015 Author Posted September 24, 2015 Oh no, a travois wouldn't be for exploring or even hunting really. Quite frankly, I'm sure they make quite a bit of noise as you're dragging them thru the woods. Should easily scare off critters and such. And looting stuff early would only, IMHO, make the game a bit easier, but you'd have to contend with scaring off potential dinner while attracting nearby wolves. Early enough in the game that could spell a nasty death or at least put a total damper on your explorations. I agree with more crafting options, which is one reason I posted this. It gets to the point that I lose interest in the game because I look around my BoO and all I are animal skins and guts. No point in crafting with them though as at that stage, I may have 3 or 4 jackets, pants, boots, and mittens (though rarely do i have more than 1 or 2 bear skin sleeping bags). At least with a sled, I could more easily change my BoO location for a change of scenery.
mjv96 Posted September 28, 2015 Author Posted September 28, 2015 I've been giving this idea some more thought while dragging my kit from the Trapper's Homestead to the Dam. Would definitely like to see it incorporated into the game, especially a basic sled for us to use. Heck, even use the front hood from one of those 1990's looking Peugeot Citroëns. Remove the hood, turn it upside down and then use about 4 cured guts and some wood for a handle. There you go, an easy to make sled. Movement should be such that you can't run while dragging it but that's better than nothing.
Shifty Mick Posted September 29, 2015 Posted September 29, 2015 Hi all, just wanted to add a +1 to this request. Many times I've wanted to relocate my base and just can't be stuffed trekking backwards and forwards ad nauseum to move gear. I keep thinking to myself, that building a sled is something I absolutely would do, if I found myself in this situation, thus helping the (already strong) immersion factor.I completely agree with the movement restrictions, although I would ask for a quick 'let-go' game mechanic, that drops the sled, if I saw say... a bear Maybe the rifle hotkey could be used for that.
Draugr Posted September 29, 2015 Posted September 29, 2015 +1 All over that. Also, something Shifty Mick mentioned - if we do get a sled, we'll probably have more options for distributing storage on our person as well. If we had a way to decide what goes where on our person, that key Mike is talking about could also function as a Quick-Release system we see on many backpacks nowadays, exactly for dire situations such as running away from predators.
Lesnik Posted September 29, 2015 Posted September 29, 2015 Would be another really good use for saplings and dried gut. +1.
houservt Posted September 29, 2015 Posted September 29, 2015 In a sense, I feel like my imagination has already handled this one. Hauling 50+ kg (100+lbs) up the side of a snowbank!? Quite impressive. In my mind, my character's weight-limit is the base white number (around 25 kg, I think? 60 lbs or so?). Anything more than that, and I picture him creating/using a sled for it, which of course slows him down and takes more energy. To add the functionality to actually show this in game, basically developing mobile containers, seems pretty daunting; but I'll give you that the uses of such a development would reach far beyond the scope of just a sled.
mjv96 Posted September 29, 2015 Author Posted September 29, 2015 I don't mind the added energy use or the speed issue with hauling a sled, both are perfectly agreeable to me. I just would like to have more things to craft and a more efficient way to haul items around. As I stated earlier, I think this should also make enough noise to alert any animals in the area to your presence. If a new player devotes energy and resources to crafting one of these early on, that takes away necessary resources to make better clothes. It's a perfectly good trade-off but one that could spell doom too.
Jebcool Posted September 30, 2015 Posted September 30, 2015 +1 +1 +1!!!Fully agree!Check out my thoughts on it here:viewtopic.php?f=59&t=8343I went into detail about how it would work in-game
mjv96 Posted October 7, 2015 Author Posted October 7, 2015 Really hope the devs take a gander at this and the Sled topic. It's not much fun making multiple trips carrying gear from one base of operations to another. Down right painful and tedious.
