mjv96 Posted September 24, 2015 Posted September 24, 2015 Just curious now that we have Desolation Point (and no, I've not managed to get there yet), is there a consensus on which map actually provides the best opportunity to survive in? If so, what's your reasoning behind it?
thinair Posted September 24, 2015 Posted September 24, 2015 Usually people loot ml then ch, then i guess from now on DP and move to PV for retirement and stay in farmstead because it has wolves, deer, rabbit, bear near by, plus short stroll for the wood, overall central-ish location. And can have mini vacations in fishing hut or signal tower for views. Overall my most favorite maps are:1. pv2. ml3. dp4. ch
MacEriu Posted September 24, 2015 Posted September 24, 2015 I like to start in the Mystery Lake area, then move over to the Pleasant Valley for more long term living. So ML in the beginning then PL. Ch is more of an in / out or through map. DP is not a long term map for me.
mjv96 Posted September 24, 2015 Author Posted September 24, 2015 I've yet to play DP, so I can't reflect upon that but for some reason, I simply can't stand PV. IF I go to PV, I get in and out as quickly as possible, trying to spend as little time there as possible. I usually use CH as my long term BoO. I just hate having to make multiple treks between ML and CH as I cart my kit over (pack rat here).
saxel Posted September 25, 2015 Posted September 25, 2015 I find the farmhouse in pleasant valley both the most survivable and the most aesthetically pleasing place to make a permanent residence.
thinair Posted September 25, 2015 Posted September 25, 2015 I hate ch... i been playing for 250 hours, and to be honest probably i already had more hours clocked in in dp than ch.... and i been playing since ML was the only map (v .132 or whatever)... so sums it all up how bad ch is my books
alunasmoon Posted September 26, 2015 Posted September 26, 2015 ch for me it has plenty of wolf deer and rabbit roaming the vast lake along with the chance of no kill to get your meal cause the wolfs on the lake often kill the deer and rabbits i can also say that the gas station is the bomb you have fire crafting and a bed all in one place very roomy lots of container to keep loot and best of all the houses around so you have lots of scrap metal to loot as well as cloth and reclaimed wood, its also a good place to get really anywhere because of how to get to DP now along with the short trek to ML that leads straight to PV i mainly go ML CH and PV but with the new map ML CH DP and PV
mjv96 Posted September 26, 2015 Author Posted September 26, 2015 I think I like the access to the ocean (fishing) plus plenty of access to deer, wolves, rabbits, and the occasional bear. I tend to hunker down in that gas station as it's got what I need to craft and it's close to everything else. Plus, I like the view from the fire tower too. I've spent many a minute just standing outside of the fire tower looking down below.
piddy3825 Posted September 26, 2015 Posted September 26, 2015 I am really liking CH for the overall open flatness that the vast expanse of frozen ice has to offer. Shelters in most cases are reasonable easy to walk/sprint to in case of emergency, also you can see what's coming well before you need to get worried. Besides having access to a crafting bench at the fishing camp and the gas station, most shelters have a beds and/or fireplaces and even when your out on the ice you have aren't too far from a woodstove.Always easy to find your arrows out on the ice, especially if you tend to miss a lot like I seem to do. I especially like getting out on the ice real early in the morning, I wait and watch for one of the wolves to take down a deer then its twang and if I'm lucky I get a "2fer" that's a good day out at CH.
mjv96 Posted September 28, 2015 Author Posted September 28, 2015 Good point about the visibility as you're right about that. You can spot that wolf coming a mile away on the ice, not so though when you venture into the woods. The craggy rocks and numerous trees provide plenty of ambush sites.I think there are quite a few of us "2fers" here as I always do the same thing.
