jackattack
Okay this is a little meta, and will reveal just how much I don't know about programming, but here goes.In the specific case of the wolf fighting mechanic, but possibly for others as well like inventory screen or first aid interface, is it possible to include two (or more) versions that players can select in the options? That would allow players to make comparisons that are more side-by-side, and might allow the developers to collect metrics on actual use rather than relying solely on anecdotal feedback in the forums. Is that possible? Would it be useful?
octavian
Well, there is this thing called testers. They play the game ~17 hours a day, most payed by Hinterland, some not. Suffice to say, Hinterland holds them and their opinions in high regard such that they have access to debug-enabled nightly builds, or something to that effect. These people play the game as its being developed, provide feedback, and test everything, so obviously also what you're talking about.
jackattack
Are we sure about the number of full-time testers, or the number of people who play the alpha and provide consistent/reliable feedback?
octavian
We don't have to be sure about anything. It's their game, their business. The people they pay to do it obviously provide constant and reliable feedback, otherwise they'd just fire them. And if they need more testers, they simply get more testers. If they need more testers to do it for free, they simply get more testers to do it for free.
