efarino Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 Ever since the release of v.258 the game has been unplayable. I am getting regular freezes and it kicks me back to the desktop then the program goes non-responsive. Bug name - Regular Freezing and program crashing Bug description - While playing the game will kick you back to the desktop and crash the program, this began after finding the cave at the back of the carter river outside the Dam. I can not progress enough in the game without freezing to allow for a new save point to see if it is area related. The crashes occur anywhere from 10 seconds to 2 min after loading into the saved game. OS (PC, Mac, etc.) - PC, Win 7 Pro, 64 bit, Intel i5 -4200U, 4GB ram, Running from Stream engine. Repro steps: The bug started with lighting a torch in the cave outside carter river heading to Pleasant Valley. I have tried nothing equipped, walking, running, standing still. The game will begin to lag then crash the program back to the desktop. Coordinates in the world if it's relevant - Not sure how to get this for you. Visibility: how often this bug occurs given your repro steps: always
Jeremy JPOW Powell Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 Could you try this please:In Steam interface, click on "LIBRARY".In games list, right click on "The Long Dark".Choose "Properties"Click "SET LAUNCH OPTIONS..."Paste into text box "-force-d3d9" without the quotesClick "OK".Click "CLOSE".This will run the game in DirectX 9 instead of 11. Could you also attach your Output_log.txt file to this post. You can find the file here: C:\Program Files(x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\TheLongDark\tld_dataTo get Coordinates you can press F8 while in game and it takes a Screenshot with Coordinates on it. The Screenshot is saved to Desktop. You can attach the Screenshots to a Post here as well. Jeremy
efarino Posted August 26, 2015 Author Posted August 26, 2015 the "-force-d3d9" seems to have helped the crashes as soon as exiting the cave and I can actually move around now. Attached are the Output log from before the -force-d3d9 change and a screenshot of where I am standing when it was crashing before making the change.output_log.txt
Jeremy JPOW Powell Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 Thanks, glad that worked. Looking at the log it was an issue with DirectX 11 so switching to 9 should indeed fix the problem. Let me know if you have any other issues related to this, if not enjoy Jeremy
efarino Posted August 26, 2015 Author Posted August 26, 2015 Thank you for your quick replies and fixes, I was very upset when it started crashing, this is looking to be an excellent game. I can't wait for the full version.
