Trail Markers

Can we have the ability to mark trees (maybe with the requirement of a knife or hatchet) with trail markers to know where we've been or where to go?

A stick and cloth for a little flag maybe. I actually use one of my indefinitely burned out campfires to find my left turn in blizzards.

And maybe find something like paint, (either spray or regular) to make it more distinguishable or mark buildings as well!

I drop a few rose hips. They're hard to see, but they do work for a trail. I actually assumed that is one of the reason why the game lets you forage so many....
