Manic Velocity Posted August 21, 2015 Posted August 21, 2015 A couple things that I struggle with whenever using a hand-held light source:The left and right mouse buttons have inconsistent results depending on the light source. To extinguish a torch I have to hold right-mouse, but to extinguish a lantern I have to hold left-mouse. The same result is brought about by opposite actions. Right-mouse is used to place a lantern, but left-mouse is used to throw a flare. Again, same result (light source is placed in the world), but brought about by opposite actions.Another problem I noticed is that the UI doesn't seem to favor the most recent light source I used when pressing the '1' key. Instead, I think it goes alphabetical by item name? (Flare > Lantern > Match > Torch) I could be wrong about that. But at any rate, I shouldn't have to always cycle through my available light sources just to get to my stock of matches. If I use a match that eventually goes out, the next time I hit the '1' key should bring up a match.A possible solution for the "inconsistent mouse actions" problem could be a dedicated "Place/Throw" hotkey. Maybe 'Alt'? Then the left/right mouse buttons could default to ignite/extinguish respectively.
Aduron Posted August 22, 2015 Posted August 22, 2015 Interesting thoughts. I really like the different light sources and especially like the subtle differences between flares and torches when it comes to wolf interactions. My only comment about this is I don't want to ever accidentally "brandish" my torch at a can of sardines again. If left click was extinguish (and right was brandish) then if I slightly miss clicked the sardines, like when carrying the lantern, it wouldn't result in me getting very tired and eating away at my torch condition. It also shouldn't extinguish the torch, like it doesn't for the lantern. I discussed this and some other UI suggestions in an old post.
Manic Velocity Posted August 22, 2015 Author Posted August 22, 2015 I may have spoken too soon. Turns out right-click is used to throw a flare. I could have sworn it was the other way around. :\
