Craftable target for the bow

A craftable target we could use to practice distant shots that wouldn't damage our arrows when hit. I'm thinking it would be more of a late game feature to do for fun and practice with the bow instead of just hibernating until you need more supplies. Maybe craft it out of pillows found in houses. All just a thought though, wondering what others think about it.

I like the idea. It's a nice alternative to get practice with the bow without abusing the save/load system. Although I should add that, even if the target itself doesn't degrade the arrows, everything else does, so if you missed the target then the arrows would be damaged a bit. Nevertheless, I like the idea.

In practicing with my real bow, I've had a few missed shots bend or break my arrows when they hit the ground/ a rock, so that actually seems pretty realistic.

Oh yeah, I agree. I was more just commenting on OP's statement that the target could have a zero degradation effect on arrows and how this would not do much good if the player wasn't hitting the target every time -- in which case, not much need for practice is there?

Well, sure. So start close to the target. :D Start so close you can't miss, then back away a bit when you're comfortable. Again, just like real life.

Exactly what I was thinking

Great idea! Although for me, so close that I can't miss might mean an inch from the target! :D

Honestly, I actually missed a headshot on a wolf before when it was standing in front of a campfire growling at me, so I really have little faith in my bow abilities.

It took me 38 shots to bag two rabbits. I'm terrible with the bow in this game. Just awful.

Well hey, don't be too hard on yourself; rabbits are small targets and really easy to scare if you get too close, so I can understand having trouble hitting them. But in my case, there's little excuse since the wolf was right up in my face practically begging to be shot and I still botched it!

It probably doesn't help that in-game, we hold and draw the bow in a completely nonsensical fashion.

In real life, depending on the bow, I draw the arrow back to ether the side on my nose, or to the "notch" of my jaw (under the ear). I then sight along the arrow-shaft, to the point, and then to the target. This gives me the rear sight - front sight = sight picture setup that you use with a firearm.

in-game, you draw the arrow back to what looks like your temple, on your forehead. It is.... just weird.

Yeah, I have no idea how the in-game person is holding that bow. I pull to the side of my mouth with my recurve,

(I'm also left-handed) but it's essentially the same thing you've just described.
